I really need help with this. A hidden group created by a member shows no topics in the Group Forum tab. There is a message saying:
“This forum has 1 topic, and was last updated 27 minutes ago by Pete.”

    followed by a message saying:
“Oh, bother! No topics were found here.”

followed by an area to create a new topic. If I create a topic as user ‘Pete’ (subscriber user), I’m brought back to that page saying there are now 2 topics, but then the No topics were found here message.

How do I get the Hidden group forum topics visible to the non-admin users who are members (or creators) of hidden groups?

I’ll try again here. I have 1 hidden group (called “Hidden”) created by admin. Fred (subscriber) is invited to the group and Fred accepts the invitation. Fred creates a hidden group (called “Fred Hidden”) and invites admin who accepts the invitation.

When I’m logged in as admin and go to the site’s Forum listing (/forums) I see the group forum for all groups including the Hidden and Fred Hidden and can access them from there. Clicking on a link to either of the hidden groups’ forums brings me into the group’s Forum tab. From there I can navigate around the group and participate.

When I’m logged in as Fred, I don’t see either of the forums for the hidden groups that Fred belongs to. The only way to see what’s going in in either the group Hidden (to which Fred was invited) or the group Fred Hidden (created by Fred) is to find an activity entry for the group and then click it.

Is there an easier way for user Fred to check in on either of the two hidden groups?

Alternatively, is there a way to allow members to create public and private groups, but not hidden groups. The way it seems to be working for me right now, the workflow is too complicated for users to be able to figure out.

    Looking forward to a response.

    More info…

I see the group Hidden created in the activity feed with a button that says “View Group”. I can get into the group that way. So the only way to get into the group is to find an activity listing, forum entry, or image, and then click the hidden group’s name?

Also, does the admin user have access to the hidden group if it’s not created by admin? And, can the admin user see content in the hidden group if the admin user is not specificly a member?

    Thanks

    Hey everyone!

This message keeps popping up in my admin notices: “A BuddyPress page has been added for the following active BuddyPress Components which did not have associated BuddyPress Pages yet: Members, Activate, Register. You may need to refresh your permalink settings.

I have refreshed my permalinks settings a few times and cleared it a few times, but it’s still popping up. Furthermore, the following page: Settings > BuddyPress > URLs —- is blank for me. Here’s an image of that: screenshot1

Further information: I am using WPForo for a forum integration & Youzify. Settings on both are fine.

    WordPress version: 6.4.3
    BuddyPress version: 12.3.0

    Thanks everyone.

    Hi everyone

I am relatively new to BuddyPress, and quite experienced with WordPress. I have my setup ready and created a group and the corresponding forum (I am using it combined with bbpress) but cannot get my cover images to save. I am using the 2024 theme with some CSS changes, and I also host my media on digitalocean spaces. Whenever I upload an image I just get the broken question mark icon, and the cover image area just loads a blank grey rectangle.

Any ideas on how I could solve this? Also, any chance that in future releases I could use my ieda library (it seems my buddypress uploads are all manual – all other media works fine on the site, so I feel like if I could select from my media library it would all work)

    Thanks!

@boomer68 check your permalink setting once, ideally,
    it should be
    Single Forums domain.com/forums/forum/single-forum-slug
    Single Topic domain.com/forums/topic/single-topic-slug

Thank you for bringing up the issue you’re facing with profile image uploads on the forum. I understand the frustration that comes with encountering difficulties after updating to the latest version of BP. It appears that the update might have introduced a bug or compatibility issue. To assist you, I suggest trying the following steps: Firstly, clear your browser cache and cookies to eliminate any potential interference from cached data. Secondly, temporarily disable any plugins or browser add-ons that may interact with the image upload process. This will help identify any conflicts causing the upload problem. Additionally, ensure that your image dimensions are set to 150 x 150 pixels in Photoshop before uploading, as you mentioned this workaround has been successful for you. By following these steps, you should be able to overcome the profile image upload issue. If the problem persists, I recommend reaching out to the forum’s support team for further assistance. Best of luck in resolving this matter, and please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

BuddyPress doesn’t have this functionality built-in, there are potential approaches you can explore:
While your attempts at a custom plugin haven’t been successful, it’s still a viable option.
Post your error logs and relevant code snippets on the BuddyPress forum thread you linked. Experienced developers can analyze and identify the issue or Hire a WordPress developer experienced with BuddyPress customizations. They can create a more robust and error-free plugin.

Several plugins might achieve a similar result, though not always with exact feature parity:
Creates exclusive groups where only admins and moderators can post, but members can still access content and chat.

Hi there, and welcome to the world of BuddyPress! Don’t worry; the 500 error can be daunting for beginners, but we’ll work together.
I’ve seen this issue reported before with the Lambda theme and BuddyPress, and it boils down to a compatibility issue with the navigation functions. Here’s how we can tackle it:

    1. Debug Mode Explained:
Good job enabling debug mode! The error message you shared (“Call to a member function get_primary() on null”) points to line 2558 in bp-core-functions.php. This line attempts to access a navigation menu item that’s not available, causing the 500 error.

    2. Don’t Modify Core Files:
While removing the problematic line might seem tempting, avoiding modifying core BuddyPress files directly is crucial. This can cause conflicts and instability down the line.

    3. Theme Compatibility Fix:
Instead, let’s explore theme compatibility options:
Theme Update: Check if an updated version of Lambda is available. Developers often fix compatibility issues in newer versions.
Theme-Specific Navigation Hook: Some themes, like Lambda, provide custom hooks for modifying the navigation. Research Lambda’s documentation or contact their support team to see if such a hook exists. You can then use this hook to customize the BuddyPress navigation without touching core files.
Alternate Theme: Unfortunately, if compatibility solutions are unavailable, switching to a different theme that plays well with BuddyPress might be necessary. Popular choices include BuddyPress-compatible themes like BuddyBoss, BuddyPress Theme, and Total.

    4. Community Resources:
Don’t hesitate to tap into the wider BuddyPress community for support:
BuddyPress Forums: Head over to the BuddyPress forums and search for similar issues related to Lambda and navigation. You might find existing solutions or helpful advice from other users.
BuddyPress Slack: Join the BuddyPress Slack community to chat with developers and experienced users in real-time.

    5. Next Steps:
Based on your preference and technical comfort level, please choose one of the suggested solutions and try it out. If you need further assistance with specific configurations or troubleshooting, please share more details, and we can delve deeper together.
Remember, the BuddyPress community is friendly and supportive, so don’t hesitate to ask for help. Good luck, and I hope you get your BuddyPress site up and running smoothly soon!

I am glad to hear that a v.14 is planned!
For 10 years I’ve tried to build something with buddypress, but I have never been able to launch a completed project, as I haven’t had the skills to make it as functional as it needed to be.

I am one of those guys that have used wordpress + various other members plugin + freelancer to make what I want.

Every community is different – so is the ones I’ve tried to make, and more often than not I haven’t needed 60% of the functionality coming out of the box in buddypress. But there are always something missing, at least for what I wanted to use Buddypress for.

In version 14 I hope to see more functionality (presented in a clear way for the users) towards user-interacting: Easy to use notification system for 100% of interactions between users.

All notifications is so, so important – as this is the way to bring members back. “Lila has sent you a message, click here to see”, “You got a new friend request”, “Someone replied to your topic”.. This brings people back, helping to grow the community!

So: Live popups and emails + bell notifications for:
Private messages, new bbpress replies / new topics, bbpress mentions, commenting, like buttons, added, follows, friend requests, accepted friend request, rejected friend requests, rating of content, e.g posts, forum posts etc.

And the entire notification system must be easy to use for both members and the admins!
Not all admins have coding skills. We just need an easy way to implement a bell in the header, which nicely presents new notifications. Small things like that is what I’ve been looking for.

And I have often found that 50% of it is working as I hoped, but then the other 50% is just not there. Forcing me to go to Freelancer, and from the developers over there, getting told: “You don’t need such a heavy tool like buddypress to accomplish this. Let me fix it for you just using wordpress and UsersWP”.

    Hi all,
I am German and ma English is not the best, but I try to discribe my problem as good as possible. But a small warning about my self: I have no idea about coding and I love plug’n’play!

    My site is : https://pinselcrew.de/

I tried to start a forum with bbpress and buddypress. It worked perfectly together until last week. I got an email from my site that told me about a big problem. The memberlist was empty and the forum was totaly broken. So I asked my hoster for a backup.
When I startet the debug mode, it told me that there is an error in the bbpress code that points to buddypress. After I deactivatet BuddyPress everything was fine again. So I deinstalled and installed it again. But the error is the same.

Maybe aomeone has an idea. The first members really loved BuddyPress and now the miss it!

    Best regards from Hamburg

I’m currently working on an Arabic version of our BuddyPress website.

In order to create a complete user experience in Arabic, I’d like to duplicate some important BuddyPress-related pages, such as “Members”, “Activity”, “Groups”, “User Profile” and “Forums”, and translate them into Arabic, the pages must be displayed in Arabic, but the provider link displays it in English, when I translate the page, it translates the French version too.

However, I’m encountering difficulties in implementing this duplication, and am seeking your assistance in guiding me on the best approach to take. Could you please provide me with detailed instructions or relevant resources to help me accomplish this task successfully?

I would like to thank you in advance for your valuable assistance. Your expertise will be of great importance in ensuring the success of this initiative.

I deactivated BuddyPress and then selected ‘favorites’ from the generic bbPress profile page. Within the list of favorited topics, the ‘X’ has the following URL:
    https://[site-url]/forums/users/admin/favorites/?action=bbp_favorite_remove&object_id=55&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2F[site-url]%2Fforums%2Fusers%2Fadmin%2Ffavorites%2F&_wpnonce=198716f56b

When I click the ‘X’ it unfavorites is. I’m beginning to see what’s happening here. Thanks for your help so far.

@vapvarun I changed the ‘Favorites’ slug in bbPress settings to ‘saved’, and then saved the settings. Then, I went into the Forums section of the profile and, in the ‘Favorites’ tab clicked the ‘X’ to unfavorite the topic. It didn’t work.

The URL behind the ‘X’ link is:
    https://[site-url]/members/admin/forums/saved/?action=bbp_favorite_remove&object_id=55&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2F[site-url]%2Fmembers%2Fadmin%2Fforums%2Fsaved%2F&_wpnonce=3e81531050

The URL to unsubscribe from within the bbPress list of topics is:
    https://[site-url]/forums/topic/itching/?action=bbp_favorite_remove&object_id=55&_wpnonce=3e81531050

It looks like maybe the URL is not constructed correctly in BuddyPress?

If it helps, I just disabled the BB Classic plugin (which I need until MediaPress updates to BB12 compatible. With BB Classic disabled, I get a 404 error when I click the Favorites or Subscriptions tab in the Forum section of BuddyPress Profile. I have a funny feeling that the problem with Unfavoriting and Unsubscribing has something to do with BuddyPress trying to create a URL with a redirect for bbPress.

Also, I did this test after updating to BuddyBoss 12.1.1 today. The URL to Unfavorite within the BuddyPress Profile is still with BB Classic enabled:

    https://[site-url]/members/admin/forums/favorites/?action=bbp_favorite_remove&object_id=55&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2F[site-url]%2Fmembers%2Fadmin%2Fforums%2Ffavorites%2F&_wpnonce=f9336f0991

Seems like that the latest update of buddypress causes issues with bbpress. Forums are no longer working and produce a critical error.

I’ve noticed the same issue with unfavouriting forum topics. The steps you’ve outlined perfectly describe the problem I’ve encountered as well. The missing image/icon and the link not removing the topic from favorites are indeed frustrating.

I also share your enthusiasm for BuddyPress and would love to see some enhancements, especially the ability to add a Favorites button to individual blog posts and coordinate it with the Activity feed. It would be fantastic to have a listing of favorite blog posts in the profile, and extending it to comments would be the cherry on top.

Thanks for bringing this up, and kudos to the BuddyPress team for their hard work! Looking forward to seeing these improvements.

From within the Forum section in the Member Profile under the ‘Favorites’ tab, the link behind the “X” is:
    https://[site-url]/members/admin/forums/favorites/?action=bbp_favorite_remove&object_id=2133&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2F[site-url]%2Fmembers%2Fadmin%2Fforums%2Ffavorites%2F&_wpnonce=d3c1b95e22

If I’m looking at the topic in Forums (bbPress), the link behind the ‘favorite’ link is:
    https://[site_url]/discussions/topic/[topic-title]/?bbp-ajax=true&action=bbp_favorite_add&object_id=2133&_wpnonce=d3c1b95e22

    Where:
    [site-url] = the website url
    [topic-title] = the topic’s title.

FYI, I am running the BuddyPress Classic plugin if this makes any difference.

NOTE: I understand that Favoriting an Activity post about a forum topic is different than Favoriting a Forum Topic. I know that you said:

To link “mark favorite” actions on bbPress topics to BuddyPress activities, you may need custom development or specific plugins, as it’s not a default feature.

but this is functionality that currently exists and just doesn’t work. I’m trying to provide you with as much information as I can.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

After some more looking, I found that there is not an icon that is missing. The red “X” is there to remove the topic from favorites. The same is true for the red “X” in the subscriptions tab. The problem is that the URL for removing a topic as a favorite or as a subscribed topic is incorrect (or at least it is different than the URL used within bbPress.

I assume that when the red “X” is clicked, the topic should be unfavorited (or unsubscribed) and would then not appear in the Members’ profile forum tab. Since the URL is not doing it’s job, the topics stay there and in bbPress show as still favorited and/or subscribed.

So the URL seems to be the culprit.

Thanks for the reply. I understand about linking the bbPress “favorite” to BuddyPress activities.

    But my real concern is:

I can’t unfavorite a forum topic from my profile forum favorties.

    Here’s the steps I took:
If I’m looking at my Favorites in /members/[username]/forums/favorites, I start out with none.
Then I go to /forums/topic/[topic] to view the topic.
Now I click the “favorite” link.
Now I go back to /members/[username]/forums/favorites, And I see the forum topic in the list of my Favorites.
There is a missing image/icon where the button to remove the topic from my favorites.
If I click there, it’s not removing the topic from my favorites. And in the forums on /forums/topic/[topic name], when I refresh, the link still says unfavorite.
If I click that, the topic refreshes and the link has changed to favorite (So it removed the topic from my favorites.
Then I go back to /members/[user name]/forums/favorites, and it’s gone.

The same is true with subscriptions.

When looking at a member’s profile in the Forum tab, the last two tabs are Favorites then Subscriptions.

Basically, in the topic list for favorites and subscribed topics within the Member Profile page, the listing of a member’s favorites and subscribed topics has a missing icon in the untitled column to the left of ‘view’ column. When I hover over it, the link displays to bbPress.

The similar view from within bbPress (sitewide as opposed to within the Profile page) has this icon. When I click the link, it toggles correctly.

As I think I just proved, a picture is worth a thousand words 🙂

    Hi,

more or less the whole question was squeezed in the forum title. But to expand with more details.

I use a jobboard theme that has its own custom register and login page. I want to keep using that since it has everything I need (and also the option for users to choose employer or candidate role which is important).

However buddypress requires the name field to be entered in buddypress register form. Is it possible to somehow add that field to the themes register page?

I guess I am not lucky enough it so simple as to copy the name field code from buddypress register template in to the themes register template? I guess it has to save to correct database fields etc.

Anyone know how to do this correctly?

    Best regards,

    Flamuren
