    UPDATE:

    On a suggestion from Sarah Gooding, I logged into the forum as the admin and double-checked that the group I was trying to post to had the “Enable discussion forum” checkbox checked. It did so I decided to uncheck it and save my settings which were confirmed. I then checked the “Enable discussion forum” box again and saved my settings and viola! It worked just as it should. Very strange but it worked. I can also post to other groups now that I did not create as well. I hope that this helps out.

    @armandmorin

    This post should help get you started.

    You can’t see the results on my home page just yet; I’m reinstalling everything after really messing things up. Give me a few hours and then visit my home page at http://rspace.org

    Well Sarah Gooding, you are a saint in the making! This is interesting and your idea made this possible. I was logged into the forum as the admin and the group I was trying to post to had the “Enable discussion forum” checkbox checked so I decided to uncheck it and save my settings which were confirmed. I then checked the “Enable discussion forum” box again and saved my settings and viola! It worked just as it should. How odd (and cool at the same time:). I can also post to other groups now that I did not create as well. I wish I could explain why that is but at this point I am not questioning the answers. Thanks again to all and I’ll keep you posted if anything goes awry, but at this point I appear to be in business.

    We are having the same issues as Avi M. I can create a forum topic as the main admin of the site, but I cannot post a topic to a group that I did not create and other members cannot create or post a topic to either theirs or other groups. I’ve read a bunch of threads but no luck yet. Any ideas? Thanks to all for your time.

    This might seem silly – you’ve probably already tried this… but make sure you login as the admin to the group you’re trying to post to and enable forums for that specific group.

    Thanks for the quick reply rossagrant, unfortunately I’m still getting the dreaded “Sorry, there were no forum topics found.” when I try to post a topic to a forum. I’ve reinstalled once but I think I’ll try photodesign’s advice again and see what happens. I’ll keep you all posted if I have any luck and thanks again for your help.

    Tridian,

    Setting —> Miscellaneous

    blank out the top box and fill in the absolute path underneath. Hope it works for you!

    Anyone want to work on Boone’s plugin idea?

    I’ve gotta think this would be really popular…

    This has now been fixed. I wrote a post detailing the 0.3.1 release here:

    Cheers.

    rossagrant, can you clarify where you updated the default address to the absolute url? I went to both the BuddyPress > General settings and the Settings > General in my WP Admin but I’m not sure where to put the absolute url. I must be blind. Thanks for your help!

    It looks like there is specific code in wordpress since 2.7 to address this, but it isn’t working for some reason.

    I love this thread. There should be a way to vote on these. I’ll add my “votes” as text here:

    1. Forum plugins – Every key bbpress plugin should be ported to buddypress. rich! has done some amazing work with forum extras and I hope he continues.

    2. Events – was a really nice emerging implementation of that in progress, but I haven’t seen much on it lately; I think it “broke” at one point due to BP version incompatibilities.

    3. Privacy, of course.

    Upgraded to the latest version btw. Working great now :)

    I’ve been using CubePoints with my single WP install to get people on contribute to my site.

    They get points for posts, comments, forum posts, daily visit, etc

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cubepoints/

    Anyway, they provide a simple API, so I was just wondering where I could put this code. So when people upload a photo they get some points. If they delete a photo it will take away points.

    <php

    if( function_exists('cp_alterPoints') && is_user_logged_in() ){
    cp_alterPoints(cp_currentUser(), 20);
    cp_log('Photo Upload', cp_currentUser(), 20, Community)

    }

    if( function_exists('cp_alterPoints') && is_user_logged_in() ){
    cp_alterPoints(cp_currentUser(), -20);
    cp_log('Photo Deleted', cp_currentUser(), -20, Community)

    }

    ?>

    Huh? thats crazy talk. I use polls all the time. And on Facebook my activity streams are always slammed with “I voted for miley cyrus as the best pop star” BS.

    Mashable has 50 million page views a month and does weekly polls. Most major sites do.

    @kriskl I use the polldaddy plugin. Users can’t create polls unless you are on MU and you allow them access to the plugin. The plugin short codes work in BP activity streams and forums.

    You don’t? What do you want your groups to use polls for?

    Something like what’s the hottest movie right now?

    They could easily make a topic in the group forums for that and they’re not restricted to a couple of answers.

    Polls are also not part of a social network as you can’t see what users voted for what and users can’t give arguments either, so it’s anonymous. If they also added comments and ratings and stuff to the poll, then maybe it could be something for a social network.

    This question is probably more something for the wpmu forums.

    Btw, the sigs won’t work UNTIL you update the admin settings and choose a max length / max lines. May be best to set a default value for that?

    believe i fixed that in the latest (0.1.3 – i just tested on a fresh install/new db) and it caught the _ck_ default values of 3 lines and 300 chars. if anyone else that installs – please verify this for me.

    linking the ‘said’ to the post has proven not to be so trivial. since in the doing ajax i don’t have a reference to the topic template global and topic_permalink. Then on the bb_ side of things – that will return the internal bbpress install location. i may setup a hidden field like i do for nonce and pass it in via the ajax post

    @baur that’s weird: searched in all files expecially in bp-album-screens, and that costants isn’t there any more, maybe your update was not successful , try re-installing it. If this doesn’t solve please report in the below link

    @others I am following the bugs here https://wordpress.org/tags/bp-album?forum_id=10 , someone already reported the division by zero so I’ll write there. Please report different bugs in diffent threads.

    As a developer I agree and understand gregfielding and foxly. It is though for developers to promote an open and active development enviroment along side paid subscriptions. Developers are far and between in regards to BuddyPress in comparison with the demand from users in the forums for features. Just look at how many post come with “What I would like in BuddyPress”, however contribution to third party plugins is ever so often.

    It would be good for developers to contribute to each other and stimulate open source. Subscription fees don’t allow that, because another developer is not going to shell out money. So just merely to argue the point between paid and non-paid. Paid works fine for demand and users, but on the flip side it damages open source development and developer collaboration.

    However, I do think in the last few months more developers have joined the bp community, which is good.

    Paid subscription also doesn’t necessarily mean quality. Nothing in regards to Brajesh intent or skill or longevity that I know off, but I have been burned before by paying for software and never getting support and the product being abandoned. However, if the team is good, then it can also mean better quality, but free open source can be just as good or better or worse. It is no measure.

    So from a developer standpoint I agree with foxly and gregfielding, but from a user demand perspective I can understand you have needs and wont mind paying for it. It fills a need, but it doesn’t help the open source community, which is what we are.

    Can they co-exist? Probably, but in a perfect world, duplication should be prevented and collaboration should be encouraged.

    Ps. I wrote this just to share my thoughts, I have no intend to fuel either fire or take sides, just discussing the issue at hand.

    An update to my situation in the post above..

    I deactivated buddypress. Deleted all files in the buddypress foldder. Uploaded fresh 1.2.2.1 buddypress files. Reactivated buddypress. Then my forums tab disappeared from the public home page. So I went into the dashboard, clicked don forums setup, and it said I could install, etc… So I clicked to install a fresh bbpress.

    It said it could not write a bb-config file and gave me the code to create one manaully.

    I copied the code and put it in the root of my wordpressmu install as it said.

    Forums tab now shows. I went to add a forum post, and the same thing happens – it just disappears.. like it is not saving any forum posts…

    Any ideas?

    hi Ray

    hope you wont mind my earlier post .

    @foxly

    Please take a look at my response to Travel-Junkie’s query here

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/gallery#post-32530

    If I release the plugin as it is now, for free, I am not sure I will be able to support the plugin as there will be a helluva lot of questions each and everyday until the plugin is mature enough. We are dealing with media and I know what sort of issues can come as of my experience from now. That’s why I always said It will be available as free as soon as the people think it’s mature enough.

    Again, I support you guys developing album+, It was a need here and hopefully, when gallery stable is released I am going to point the people to album+ for a lighter/fee alternative as it seems now.

    I am having a similar issue.

    Wpmu 2.9.2, Bp 1.2.2.1

    When I click on forums, then post a new topic, enter in everything. It goes back to the screen showing All topics (0) – and says “sorry there were no topics found”

    I checked on the buddypress / forums setup tab in the backend, and it says:

    bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. If you are having problems you can re-install

    Should I try to reinstall the forums / bbpress? and if so which option would I choose?

    Set up a new bbPress installation Use an existing bbPress installation
