ParticipantSchwooba and Neobabs, the idea has been proposed on BuddyDev.com
http://buddydev.com/forums/topic/group-category-plugin
There is something in the works, so if you’re interested let Brajesh (the developer) know in that topic!

Burt perhaps you can assist.

Participanthey i’ve got it to work, I’m quickly setting up the plugin to work as a widget and i’ll upload it

Note i’m still working on getting the correct permalink though, but that shouldn’t be a train-smash. will you posted<div class="topic-list"> <?php if (bp_has_forum_topics() ) : ?> <?php while ( bp_forum_topics() ) : bp_the_forum_topic(); ?></p> <div class="topic-list-item"><a>" rel="bookmark" class="title"><?php bp_the_topic_title(); ?></a></div> <?php endwhile; ?> <?php else: ?> <p>There are no topics</p> <?php endif; ?> </div>January 23, 2010 at 11:24 am #61432In reply to: Recent Activities on private group

ParticipantFind the following block of code in the groups/create.php template file (in themes/bp-default, lines 49-61)
<?php if ( function_exists('bp_forums_setup') ) : ?>
.. blah blah blah..
<?php endif; ?>Just comment that whole section out (put a /* before and a */ after this block of code) and your users will never get the option to create a forum

ParticipantDo you mean something like the forum/users/groups directory? I would definitely like to add something like that but sadly it will have to wait until after the initial project release/deadline as we are pretty much out of time and need to concentrate on bug-fixing at the moment. I do plan to look at a few things asap in my own time (though that is sadly very limited) and that would probably be one of my priorities

I also would recommend joining up to the site and creating your own group so you can see the admin functions for the group wiki. You have a fairly fine grain of control over the wiki pages…

ParticipantCongratulations, DCartwright. Looking good
Other than seeing by chance that there is Wiki page or new wiki entry in the sitewide activities, will you be adding a navigation tab along with Groups, Members, etc. Wiki so that members can see that there is a Wiki feature/directory page? Just like Forums link where forums are dependent on groups, so are Wiki’s. Or… we could just hardcode the link

KeymasterHere’s a writeup I made awhile back:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/bp-admin-bar-on-bbpress-front-page-1#post-18626
For the require_once line, if that line doesn’t work change it to the absolute file path.
If you’re using single WP, delete these lines:

ParticipantOK, went in and selected the same theme for
http://community.urine-therapy.org/testing2/ that
http://community.urine-therapy.org/testing3/ uses,
but the changes I made to sidebar.php have affected testing2 and not testing3. I’m actually pretty sure I am using the same theme on both of these test member blogs. Maybe I have to go in and reselect the theme for the changes to take effect? I don’t know on that one.
Now, why don’t
Blog
Members
Groups
Forums
Blogs
work in either testing2 or testing3?
Basically, I just want those links to go to the links of the main site.
Is the logic that I make a blog and people come and make blogs and each blog gets members and sub members?
Basically, what I am going for is:
Members join and make a profile page and a blog.
They can post but not make pages
Their posts appear in sitewide activity
When you visit their blog you see only the member’s posts
There are no sub-sub members (members don’t have members)
There are no sub-sub-blogs members only get one blog and that’s it
I am starting to make some changes, but I really don’t know why just yet.

ParticipantThe only reason I noticed this is because the comment love keeps messing up and I have to go in and re enter the url under the admin profile.
p.s linking my site in this forum has only brought me spam.
It seems to be staying now…

Participanthello, i was wondering exactly the same thing !
I think it can be very usefull and in fact it can help to make buddy press more clear.
Or maybe the ability to create category for put group inside !
Cause if your buddypress community is very big and lots of people create group we will have a terrible mix of all and we can be lost…
example: a category for group called music
and inside some groups like: rock, pop, alternative, jazz etc…
general forum for category and sub forums for groups inside can be very usefull too
I don’t now really how to do this but if someone think it can be done let me now !
thanks in advance

ParticipantThank you. What about the second question then – if I need to dig in the code or create my own plugin, where do I start?
Has anyone worked with the forum plugin enough to point me in the right direction?
(Let me add to this – I’m a php programmer, and I’ve done some small WP plugin work in the past. I’m new to all the WPMU and Buddypress files and am looking for a little help with a quick start, as I’m just trying to help a friend get something finished quickly and don’t have time to learn the code properly. Any quick notes or “watch outs” are appreciated.
In compensation, if I manage this and make a plugin/modification, I’ll be happy to release it to the community
)

David Lewis
Participant@Peter: WordPress is the same. If you want to do something that it doesn’t do by default you have to dig into the Codex and forums and figure out a little bit of PHP. The only changes you can make with “some html/css” are visual changes. No matter what the software is. If you take a look through the WordPress.org forums you will find thousands of posts with people discussing code, php, template tags, action hooks, custom queries, arrays. And WordPress plugins break after updates too. All the time.
Sorry… what was the original question again? Oh yah… different user types. I guess that has already been answered above… as best as it can be. Topic has been marked as “resolved” too.
