Like wordpress fan… I also need a solution that shows different components to registered vs. non-registered users. I can’t launch without it. Unless we build to separate sites… but I really don’t want to do that. The “public” (non-members) should basically only see the main blog’s posts, pages and events. Everything else needs to be hidden until you log in. I guess a bit of PHP might fake it just by hiding navigation options. In fact, there is a thread on the forums about that. I was assuming that the new privacy module would make that information moot however.
I noticed tonight that the description in Themes for bp-default says
The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent/messages. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default.
Why would WPMu be looking for template files in a directory under bp-sn-parent/, rather than in that directory?
That is very strange. There have been two other reports of something similar–except one listed /blogs the other listed /groups.
Please file a ticket so that we remember this issue. Perhaps with a little more information, we might be abel to find out why some people have seen this behavior.

The auto upgrade usually does its job. But you are using a version of WPMU (2.7.1) that is 5 months old. Also, you were attempting to upgrade from a version of BP that was at least that old as well.
Whenever that many months have elapsed between your updating software versions, it is wise to check the readme.txt files and make sure that the versions you are using are compatible with each other. Had you done so, you would see at the top of BuddyPress’ v1.0.3 readme.txt file that you need at least WPMU 2.8.1.

During those five months, many updates have been made to both platforms. In fact, it is recommended that you upgrade WPMU to 2.8.4a for security reasons. Here’s some information that might help in upgrading WPMU.

That is an issue. I’m not sure that it has been reported, but as you are the first to report such a bug in the BuddyPress forums, you should check in WPMU Trac and see if it has been reported. If not, add a new ticket.
Report it as a bug on https://trac.buddypress.org/ – use the same username and password that you do for these forums.
Is your webhost 1and1? If so, it’s either a php version issue or a memory issue. Both of these have been addressed previously so give the forum a search and report back if those don’t help!
This is a very old thread that has not seen any activity for 5 months until your post. BuddyPress has changed significantly during that time, so whatever was the OP’s issue it is more than likely not the same as your current issue. Also, this thread is marked as resolved so it will more than likely get passed over by most people.

I had considered adding the ability to block a certain user or groups of users but then realized that the selections that are offered do in fact block groups of users by virtue of them not being able to view a given object. For example, if a particular user is bothering you, and they are not in your friends listing, you can make an object only viewable to friends. This, in essence, will block them.
Possibly future versions of the component could enable the grouping of several filter options or even include the ability to filter out certain users. But suffice it to say that the first version offers plenty of options and flexibility.

Since forums are not a core-created object but in fact are objects pulled into BuddyPress from an outside plugin, BPAz will not offer a filtering option for forums. There are simply too many distinct objects that bbPress creates. It truly needs its own privacy filtering system. Therefore, it is up to bbPress to offer such privacy options or a 3rd-party bbPress developer.

perfecto! had one *slight* mistake in that setup … i dumped everything into /plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/ … without the bbpress folder 
and yes, it was via zip, lol.

To be clear, the core privacy component will offer users the ability to decide which pieces of their core-created data they want to make available to which users (or groups of users). It will not offer a mechanism to hide data from people who are not “subscribers” as subscriber is not a BuddyPress user classification or level.

hello, hello… my forums are pointing me to a 404 page from the main nav as well as whenever i want to add a forum to my group. bp says that they are installed correctly in the forums setup. i hit the reinstall link twice and still got the “bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly” message but no luck. running the latest versions on everything — bp 1.1beta, wpmu 2.8.4a, bbpress 1.0.2. everything else is spot on though and works right out of the box. wpmu/bp is in the root with directory install. this was a fresh install for everything at michaelkuhlmann.com … no mods or additional plugins, just testing everything before i theme it.
