KeymasterThis is a bug in the libxml2 library on your installation.
http://josephscott.org/archives/2008/12/problems-with-libxml2-for-wordpress-xml-rpc-users/
You can upgrade this on your server – but – make sure you have enabled the “BuddyPress enable” plugin on the bbPress side, as this is a temporary fix for the problem.

ParticipantI had an idea of another way to combat the constant comment spam and registrations from bots, though I don\’t know if it would work.
As the bots don\’t read the page like humans do, they just search for and find the forums to fill in, brings up an interesting idea.
What about using \’hidden\’ fields that are not displayed on the screen itself.
The idea being that if data is input into the field it could not possibly be a human, so we then know to \’not activate\’ or error out the comment/registration etc…
The ‘auto spam bot programs’ that I have come across all look for specific fields etc. We could do something like name the hidden field ‘password’ etc, so the bot thinks it’s legit, but it’s not.
Does anyone know if the bots are \’smart enough\’ to figure this out and get around it?

ParticipantThe search problem is fixed in latest
http://bp-dev.org/forums/topic/r229-and-r230-not-working#post-643
to solve the second one,
copy bpdev-groups-extra-config.php.sample to bpdev-groups-extra-config.php
and activate it in WPADMIN -> plugins -> installed as sitewide

KeymasterCurrently only using what is called “deep integration” which is documented pretty extensively over on the bbpress.org forums. (Beware, they will advise against this.)
Nicola Greco from bp-dev.org is working on a way to do this using XMLRPC, but I haven’t seen that code yet.

ParticipantThat is so great! Will you be making the plugin available to the community at large? It’s not that tightly integrated (you have to essentially leave BuddyPress and come back)… but it’s better than nothing!
Perhaps integrated Wiki’s will arrive in a future version of BuddyPress (Please BP team). I would envision them appearing within Groups. So group would navigation be “Home, Forum, Wire, Wikis, Members”.

Anyone found a solution for 404 for any slugs ?

ParticipantYou’re welcome, Mekudos.
Thanks for checking it out.The forums aren’t really meant to be seen by users. It’s simply what’s used to make group posting work. If you create a new group and give it some posts & replies, then head to the forums, you’ll see how the 2 parts of the installation work together.
If you want your members to actually log into and post via forums (rather than groups) then you’ll need to put a link on your template that would direct them there.

ParticipantThanks for the terrific instructions!
My only question is after WPMU 2.7.1, BuddyPress RC-2 and BBpress Alpha 6 is installed and functional, is how to include the Forum button on the home and member templates or did not follow the instructions properly?
Thanks Again

ParticipantSpeaking to this issue:
why does my username in the forums say i am ‘inactive’
It is a known bug in bbPress. Everyone sees their own status as “Inactive” and everyone else’s as “Member” or “Moderator”.
I just look at it as a little nudge to get more involved.

ParticipantI always like to verify it’s an issue 1st in the forums, then report it to the trac myself.

ParticipantI wish I could contribute, but I got no skills to code.

btw, I don’t see active forum users reporting problems/bugs on the trac. Perhaps they don’t know they can simply do it with the same account.

ParticipantI’ve posted this last night.
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2352
rc2 has so many bugs that disable basic features. Bug fix should be released asap.
Since other users are facing this, I’ve made this ticket as critical.

ParticipantOK. XMLRPC is enabled for local calls. I had to put a loopback in the server’s hosts file as this isn’t a live domain yet. It’s always something blindingly easy – once you figure it out.
Yet… posting to the forums didn’t actually work until I reset the linking account’s password a couple of times.

ParticipantHeh. After weeping tears of blood trying to integrate bbPress, buddypress and wpmu, after several installs, multiple reads of Trent’s tutorial page, I began to suspect XML-RPC problems and jumped back on the forums, found this thread and installed Burt Adsit’s lovely little plugin and am rewarded with:
-32300 >> transport error – could not open socket: -1080553356
Thanks Burt. You rock. Now to figure out how to permit XML-RPC calls locally.

ParticipantI completely agree. In a standard social network I’d care less, but the project I’m working on is an official university initiative and the ability to clean up a mess before/because of a complaint is going to be key.
Same here with the “inactive” on my name in the forum…weird.

why does my username in the forums say i am ‘inactive’ where others say member, moderator, etc…? I am obviously logged in…. how do I become ‘active’? lol
