Does anyone know of a way to force existing users to complete newly created mandatory profiles fields?
Is it possible to create custome fields for user profile value of which can be edited only by admin and not the users.
In English it is in the BuddyPress Plugin – xProfile.
Click on:
BuddyPress > Profile Field Setup
The instructions read:
“Your users will distinguish themselves through their profile page. You must give them profile fields that allow them to describe themselves in a way that is relevant to the theme of your social network.
NOTE: Any fields in the first group will appear on the signup page.”
And it works very well!
Which profile do you use for your buddypress site?
a) wp’s default profile
b) buddypress’s xprofile
I’ve tested both. wp’s default profile doesn’t let you create any extra fields than predefined ones. xprofile has flexibilities, but sidebar widget support is missing as well as bp’s avatar is not linked to wp’s avatar system.
What’s your take?
You can add new profile fields in the bp menue in your WPMU admin area.
Open there the Buddypress menue and click “Profilefelder” (I guess you are German)
A http://-entry will be displayed automatically as a Link.

is there any chance to extend the buddypress profiles? it would be nice if i could modify the profile fields und add fields like icq, skype and things like that? or an profile field for members website address that automaticly links to the url?

I guess the following problem arises due to my laps in PHP knowledge.
I’m trying to extend the regular validation of registration data by an own function (WPMU2.7,BP1.0).
However already my skeleton, albeit empty,

causes these errors:

Hi everyone. I just wrote a small plugin to allow users to customize which words/phrases get linked in the fields of their BP profiles (overriding BP’s automatic take-whatever-is-between-commas algorithm). For now, it’s hosted on the dev blog for the CUNY Academic Commons (the project I wrote the plugin for), until I get it approved for the main WP plugin database.

Hey, I got a client that wants to auto-fill some fields in the sign-up page with info gathered from a LinkedIn’s profile. All good, except the part when he said ‘No hardcoding’ which is logical.
In the file:

“How to hide selected profile fields”
Topic: SQl Question
As I could see in the Sql Database (tabel: Wp_Xp_ptofile_fields), is there a key named public.
What is this Key for? I assumed, that it is for the profile field and if it gets shown in the Public Profile view, but it seems not to be like that.
Is there any way, to make some fields only visible for the profile owner and the admin?
Topic: allowing html in xprofile?
I’ve been testing bp at local, trying to allow more html tags in xprofile fields.
So far in bp-custom.php I’ve added the followings, but it seems nothing happens.
remove_filter( ‘xprofile_get_field_data’, ‘wp_filter_kses’, 1 );
What else is preventing html within xprofile fields?
I’m creating a business directory and I’m trying to add members manually from the admin panel, but the fields for the extended profiles that are available to a new user via the registration panel aren’t visible on the admin side. Is there a way to have access to that information from the admin panel, or is it only available to the user upon registration?
