Hello!
I have created a new custom fields group called “curriculum” with all the fields the user hass to fill in to apply to a job.
Currently, the user can access his/her cv information at the buddypress “profile” tab, where a button group is displayed with the following buttons: “Base”, “Curriculum”, leading him or her to a page to view or edit his or her curriculum information when the “Curriculum” button is pressed.
What I would like is to move that custom group field to a custom tab which I have already created, keeping all the functionality (that is, letting the user view or edit his/her laboral info, only that in that separate tab).
Is that possible at all?
Thank you in advance!
Topic: Simple Address directory
I want to add a simple directory of businesses. ( sort of a link directory with extra profile fields. )
A few of the plugins I can see are just too big for my needs and I don’t need add a lot of the extra social media ajaxy stuff.
I can do all the front end styling. I just need a really simple and lite plugin functionality. ( it would be good if it was optionally searchable too)
Can anyone recommend one that is buddypress compatible and passes strict accessibility standards compliance.
thanks!Topic: Repeatable Profile Fields
Hi
Is it possible to set repeatable profile fields? E.g. if you have an ‘interests’ dropdown for members, could you set it so that they can add as many interests as they like, but not using a multi select dropdown because you want to have a primary interest and then secondary interests.
Hi
So I know that v2.2 has some built in support for different member types. I was wondering if you can define completely different sets of profile fields for each member type rather than having the same fields for all members and then using conditional statements on the front-end?
Also, will we be able to define completely separate templates for the profile page for each member type or again, will we need to use conditional statements for this?
Topic: xProfile Required Fields Bug
I just installed BuddyPress 2.2 and I am trying to create new members. However, it’s giving me a problem where the required fields are throwing an error. It doesn’t matter if there is text in the required fields or not the error is thrown. I’m very new to all of this and hoping to use BuddyPress on this project but it’s hard to learn with this error.
Hi everybody,
is there a way to make custom fields in register form visible or invisible depending on another field? E. g. if somebody registers as a cook and another as a technician there should be different forms to create the profile. I want to create a field the user can choose one of those and depending on that choice I need the form to change. Sorry, my english isn´t that good. Hope you understand what I want to do!? Thanks a lot!
Topic: Additional profile fields
Hi,
I’m trying to create a signup form with the following mandatory fields:
1: A field for tags. Optimally the new user should be presented with a list of predetermined tags that exist on the site, but should also have the option to add their own.
2: A field for entering physical location.
The data should be set up in a search index, so that other users will be able to search for a specific tag/tags and proximity to their own location.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have long been a fan of BuddyPress and bbPress, but I have never been able to finish a site using them. This is because I am unable to fully test their elements. I think that a lot of people would be willing to use BuddyPress and bbPress, but a few things prevent them from using them.
1. There’s no official BuddyPress and bbPress testing data. There are a few plugins, but they suck and don’t add data for most features. I’m talking about everything from demo users to custom profile fields to testing heading, paragraph, quote, and list elements in the forums and BuddyPress activity. Without full testing data, I am unable to finish a design, and this is way too much work for me, a non-developer of BuddyPress, to figure out and do. WordPress has official test data, so where is bbPress’ and BuddyPress’? I need it, and I guarantee a lot more people would design their websites to use BuddyPress and bbPress if we had it.
2. There’s no good way to reset the stylesheet for BuddyPress or bbPress so that I can style their elements from scratch, from what I’ve seen. Starter WordPress themes such as Underscores are blank and perfect across browsers, allowing one to develop a completely custom feel for their site, unbiased of any developer-chosen styles. I need that for BuddyPress and bbPress too. Hacking or child-theming BuddyPress’ default stylesheets is not what I would consider a good solution to custom design.
3. This is a bbPress-exclusive problem, but I’ll say it anyway. Very few people want to use bbPress, and that’s only for two purely-aesthetic reasons: One, category-type “forums” are treated visually like forums and put all their sub-forums in an inline list. Nobody ever wanted or asked for that. They want “categories” to look like dividers between groups of forums so that they’re easier to digest, just like every other forum software. No other software does this like bbPress, and that’s why everyone uses other forum software. It just looks unpleasant and hard to read, and cuts the real forums’ meta information out of the board index.
Two, people need images to separate hard-to-digest blocks of text. That is a fact that every good writer knows. One of the ways almost every forum system accomplishes this is by creating an icon in front of every forum on the board index. Forums often make them more practical by making the icons change when all the topics inside those forums have been read. But bbPress doesn’t use icons in front of forums on the board index, and let me tell you– that is the FIRST thing everyone I’ve ever shown bbPress sees, and it is the FIRST reason people decide they dislike bbPress. These icons are necessary for the readers’ eyes, and everyone knows it. For the love of god, fix this so I and everyone else will want to choose bbPress upon first look over other forum software.
Finally, I choose bbPress and BuddyPress due to their integration of features with WordPress. It’s why I tell everyone to use BuddyPress if it helps their community, and why I tell everyone that they SHOULD use bbPress with WordPress instead of third-party forums. However, few people do use either system, and I have a really hard time developing with both due to a lack of reset styles, a lack of testing data, and a lack of the visual functionality in bbPress that other forums have. Please fix this stuff. If not for me, then for the sake of not discouraging tens of thousands of potential users like you probably already do.
I love BuddyPress and bbPress. Please make it easier for me to develop sites with them. Thank you.
Topic: Locking some profiles fields
Hello,
I am using BP + x-profiles plugins for an intranet.
I need to lock some fields of members profiles (but not all), so that the members won’t be able to edit them (only the admin can).
I did not find a plugin for this, may you help ?
Thanks
Topic: BuddyPress field filter
Hi there, I am using wordpress 4.1 and buddypress 2.1.1
I have searched the forums and have found only extremely old posts on this topic with no apparent solution.
Is there a way to filter searches based on user profile fields? For example, search based on the custom profile field: “location”? so that my users could see all other users that are in a certain city?
Or a plugin that would do this?
Any clues would be greatly appreciate,
Lost and frustrated,
Monica
Hi,
I added custom fields for profile user (bp-profile-setup).For each field I set:
1) Field: required;
2) Default visibility: everyone
3) Visibility for user: Allow members to change the visibility of this fieldBut there is a problem: when the user standard changes the visibility of each field in her profile page from everyone to ‘only me’, ‘only friends’, it not works.
The visibility is always set on “everyone”.
Why?
Thanks.
Hello all together,
I have a query string e.g. “?field_9=Man&field_10=Woman&field_2=25&field_2_to=35&field_69_min=165&field_69_max=175” and would like to list all the Members who have chosen similar fields. like a matched Profiles. How can i list specific members? or should I split (explode) the query string in an array and read the whole thing with PHP loop?
Maybe someone could help me or give a similar approach.
Thanks in advance
I’m tying to utilize some of the BuddyPress Extended profile field information on a custom area of my site, but it seems as though certain values aren’t being initialized before I try to access them. More specifically:
On my custom php page, I load WordPress with the following:
require_once( WORDPRESS_DIR . '/wp-load.php');Lots of WordPress functions work great (even BuddyPress functions). But a bit after this require I’m trying to use the following function:
xprofile_get_field_data( $field,$user_id );The function is accessible, but regrettably it appears as though $bp->profile->table_name_fields is empty…so it can’t search the database for the appropriate field. I end up getting blank results.
What do I need to do in order to have BuddyPress (and even bbPress) load more fully?
Thanks — and Merry Christmas!
