Hi there,
In Setting > Profile, I want to hide rows of fields that do not have a value set for them.
Currently the code is as such:
[ edited – please use the ‘code’ button when sharing code. ]<?php while ( bp_profile_fields() ) : bp_the_profile_field(); ?> <tr <?php bp_field_css_class(); ?>> <td class="field-name"><?php bp_the_profile_field_name(); ?></td> <td class="field-visibility"><?php bp_profile_settings_visibility_select(); ?></td> </tr> <?php endwhile; ?>I have tried to add <?php if ( bp_field_has_data() ) : ?> but that doesn’t seem to hide the row either. I tried doing a var_dump of the bp_the_profile_field_value() but it returns NULL for all fields even though some of them do have values.
Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong here?
Is there a way to show a Profile field for all members in the member list?
For instance, I have Member A living in New York, in the list of members only the name “Member A” will show, however, i would also like “New York” to be displayed in the list. Also, is there a way to add an excerpt to every member in the list?Is there a shortcode for displaying members with certain profile fields?
Hi! Any suggestions for how to make a specified user role invisible to Buddy Press? I’ve seen posts on how to exclude a role from Membership Directory lists, but how can I restrict users with a certain role from all BP features: friends, messages, viewing extended profile fields when they edit profile, etc. etc Users in this role should be limited to posting in forums and editing the basic profile fields (these users have a separate registration form, via Gravity Forms User Reg addon).
Thanks in advance for any help!
b00n question, is it possible to filter users by Profile Fields? If so, how?
Topic: Is this possible?
I am trying to create a site for a small preschool & kindergarten. We are trying to create:
1. Bbpress forums usable by the local geographic community at large, that any site visitor can register to post to, and,
2. A “student portal” only for enrolled families that allows them to post to the above forums plus
a. complete a more complex profile than the above users with some fields viewable only to other enrolled families logged in to the portal, some fields viewable only to admin, and some with visibility set by the user (this profile will function as an online student enrollment. The fields with visibility set by user will be the school directory)
b. access restricted content pages at the site…and, keep both sets of users out of the back-end/dashboard area.
Can this be done with BuddyPress?
Thanks so much in advance for your help!!!!!Hi, This might be a little confusing, I have looked ALL OVER trying to find a solution!
If you go to the members page, there is a listing of all members.
For each member profile box, it shows the following:
User Profile Pic to the Left
Member user name to the right of the profile pic
Under Member User name is their last active time (for example: active 1 second ago)What I am trying to do:
I would like to pull in the City, State underneath the member’s user name.
I know this would come from the profile information they filled out when they registered. I created custom fields for new users, such as City, State, Profession, School, ect.I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what to do!
Please help!!!!
Thanks so much in advance!
Topic: registration validation
hi,
i am trying to find how (if) BP is doing validation
using BP 2.1.1on buddypress plugin\bp-templates\bp-legacy\css\buddypress.css
there is section 3.5 forms
for example here are a few lines:
#buddypress .standard-form input[type=text],
#buddypress .standard-form input[type=text],
#buddypress .standard-form input[type=color],
#buddypress .standard-form input[type=date],this seems to coincide with wp-content\themes\test_theme\buddypress\register.php
the action bp_signup_username_errors<!– here is an an example of the action hook for username validation –>
<label for=”signup_username”><?php _e( ‘Username’, ‘buddypress’ ); ?> <?php _e( ‘*’, ‘buddypress’ ); ?></label>
<?php do_action( ‘bp_signup_username_errors’ ); ?>
<input type=”text” name=”signup_username” id=”signup_username” value=”<?php bp_signup_username_value(); ?>” />
<p class=”description”>Usernames must be all one word.</p>so my question is, buddypress seems to have validation for username, password, and email address. there will be a red error message box popping up when the data isn’t in the correct format.
where is this functionality passed, and how can i build on it to include other fields like Xprofile fields and WP user profile fields?
_________________________________________
for example:‘describe yourself in 25 words or less’
while this isn’t on the register page, its on where/how would i hook into this field with an action.. and can i use the same function page as the above validation.. just copy and modify the syntax to include the requirements for the data (25 words or less, no urls, etc)
thanks in advance
I haven’t had very good luck finding an answer out there in regards to this question. Any answers I found where over 4 years old so I’m wondering if things have changed.
Is it possible to allow the editor role to manage signups? I need this capability because I do not want to open a user up to full admin access in order to help manage signups.

Topic: Add custom xprofile links
Hi guys!
You already helped me to remove the xprofile links and to display a filtered view of all members on my homepage (https://buddypress.org/support/topic/display-filtered-overview-of-members/#post-231596).
So I hope you can help me once again.
I’ve build a network for athletes. Among many other profile fields every athlete have a profile field called “gender” and “sport”. As already mentioned I’ve filtered this on my landing page for a nice overview. The code for female athletes looks like this:<?php $sports = array('Archery', 'Badminton', 'Baseball', 'Basketball', 'Bowling', 'Equestrian', 'Fencing', 'Field Hockey', 'Football', 'Golf', 'Gymnastics', 'Ice Hockey', 'Lacrosse', 'Rifle', 'Rowing', 'Skiing (Cross Country)', 'Skiing (Downhill)', 'Soccer', 'Softball', 'Squash', 'Swimming and Diving', 'Tennis', 'Track and Field', 'Volleyball', 'Water Polo', 'Wrestling'); $sportsSize = sizeof($sports); $femaleCounter = 0; for ($i = 0; $i < $sportsSize; $i++) { $femaleSport = $wpdb->get_var( "SELECT COUNT(user_id) FROM ar_bp_xprofile_data WHERE value = 'female' AND user_id IN (SELECT user_id FROM ar_bp_xprofile_data WHERE value = '" . $sports[$i] . "')" ); if ($femaleSport != 0) { echo '<p>' . $sports[$i] . ' (' . $femaleSport . ')</p>'; $femaleCounter++; } } if ($femaleCounter == 0) { echo '<p>Sorry, there are no female athletes registered yet.</p>'; } ?>In the Frontend it could look like this:
Female:
Baseball(4)
Basketball(2)
Soccer(8)Male:
Baseball(20)
Basketball(30)
Tennis(5)Now I would like to generate links on the sports as it’s automatically done with profile fields.
I think there are two problems:
1) I have already removed xprofile links in profile/members loop.
2) The sports are not in the members or profile loop. Can you help me?
Hello everybody
I’d like to ask you for a help with assigning a WP user role based on a BuddyPress registration.
REASON: I do this because I want to have an automatic way of allowing users after their registration to see and contribude only to specific forums. For subscribers I have Forum1 ready,
for contributors Forum1 AND Forum2.
Subscribers cannot see the content of Forum2!Everything should be automatically done. User comes to the website, registers (chooses type of account), gets access to specific forum.
If you could suggest a better solution, OK, if not, plese, try to fix this:
I have BuddyPress installed. I used extended profile fields to create a list of different users, let’s say User1, User2, User3. After hitting “finish registration” button, based on a selection of User1 or User2 or User3, specific role is assigned. So for example:
If User1 is chosen, user gets WP role subscriber,
if User2 is chosen, user gets WP role subscriber,
if User3 is chosen, user gets WP role contributor.Something similar is mentioned below with Cimy User Extra Fields, but it does NOT work with BuddyPress registration. If you add anything with Cimy User Extra Fields, you cannot see it in BuddyPress registration.
What function/code, to what file I should add so I could have my solution?
Thank you.———————————————————————-
// // Modify registration form to include roles // add_action('user_register', 'register_role'); function register_role($user_id, $password="", $meta=array()) { $userdata = array(); $userdata['ID'] = $user_id; $userdata['role'] = $_POST['cimy_uef_USERTYPE']; if ($userdata['role'] == 'A Contributor') { $userdata['role'] = 'contributor'; } if ($userdata['role'] == 'An Editor') { $userdata['role'] = 'editor'; } //only allow if user role is my_role if (($userdata['role'] == "contributor") or ($userdata['role'] == "editor")){ wp_update_user($userdata); } }Hi
Is there anyway to add custom verification for profile fields?
I use this custom verification in contact form 7 plugin .Thanks
Hello,
I faced some problems of how to get xprofile field drop down select box value.
Let say that I have xprofile field name ‘First’ and it is drop down select box with following values:
‘Value1’
‘Value2’
‘Value3’….I used this code to get the field
echo xprofile_get_field_data('First', bp_get_member_user_id());The values are printed but I would like every value to be wrapped in a different URL.
Etc.:<a href="url1">Value1</a> <a href="url2">Value2</a>I tried many variations, but still no luck.. Any recommendations on this would be appreciated.
Topic: Help me create rpg stie
Hi there!
Not sure if it’s the right topic, and sorry, if I’m in wrong place – but I reached my capabilities without any real programming skills.
For the third year, i am an administrator of a hungarian forum based role playing site. The mechanics are simple, mostly built on available wordpress/buddypress plugins.
I use Cimy User Extra Fields to set the race of the characters, which is shown near every post.
People can level up with using CubePoints (=exp. points), every post gains some, administraters and dungeon masters can add some for participating in some events.
Achievments plugin for the same reason as the previous one, and make more gamelike. What I need help is making a quest system – which would help users level up faster and earn titles. The best would be to add new page to the buddypress profile, character sheet. For every cubepoints rank, users would gain certain ammount of skillpoints, which they could spend.
The questing would be another page of the site: administrators could create new quest, and there would be unseen requirements to users (like: on the quest page, near the description there would be a picture and under it a red “hard” test. it would mean hacking level 12 skill minimum + d4 skillcheck.)
If they succeed, they would get a message about it, and some cubepoints.
Every few hours, the list would refresh itself, choosing random quests from the list.
With X number of tasks done, they would gain choosable titles (for example: 10 quests done in cyberwarfare category would mean they can add “1337” title on their profile page)I know it’s a really, really big task, but I would like any help i can get – where shall i begin? What do you guys recommend?
Can someone please help me out?!?
I’ve got a website where i’ve created a GravityForms use registation form and i’ve created several extra BuddyPress profile fields. These fields a also added tot de GF reg.form.
These fields work fine when updating a user or when manual filled in WordPress backend.
Only the fields wont be passed when the user is activated. With manual activation the user signup is first stored in the wp_signup database table. Untill the user is approved there is no data of that user in the bp_xprofile_meta table.
When approving the signup the WP user is created, only the extended user data wich is filled by user via de GF reg.form gets/is lost…Can this be fixed??? Maybe via user-meta or a custom hook?
Ok, so I am getting to grips with this 2.2 member types update.
I’m trying to figure out how to hide specific profile field groups on the edit profile page. Some profile fields should only be visible to 1 group, not all.
Does anyone have any idea of how to point me in the right direction?
I know how to do this in terms of displaying profile fields, but not displaying them wthin ‘edit profile’.
Wordpress 4.1 and BP 2.1.1
Here is what I’m doing:
1) user clicks on a “create account” link and fills out a Gravity form and submits it.
– one of the fields is a xProfile field.
– BP puts that user in the pending state (xProfile data is not in bp_xprofile_data yet)
2) user gets an email with an activation link and clicks on it
3) user is redirected to the the successful activation page (page=gf_activation&key=421e779e1d92054f) Here, I can display the xProfile data on the page using xprofile_get_field_data.
– I have overridden wp_new_user_notification with my own function to enhance the registration email
4) email is sent to user with his username and password
My problem is that I want to include the xProfile data in the email, but it is not written to bp_xprofile_data until after the email has been sent. In fact, the wp_user is not created until after the email is sent. But the data has to be somewhere because I can access it when generating the success activation page!Where the heck is this data stored while the new user is in the pending state and how do I access it?
