In reply to: [Resolved] User Activation Issue

ParticipantNow I have completely deleted the MySql database and all WordPress files. I did a completely clean install of WordPress 4.2.2 (without using Softaculous) and the only plugin I installed and activated is BuddyPress 2.2.3.1. Haven’t changed the language or anything else.
The problem is still there, exactly the same. The users get activated immediately after registration without clicking on the email link that is being sent to them.

ParticipantSure. The site is http://www.sinaxtite.com. It’s all in Greek though, but you can still see the problem. Use the top menu, the right-most menu item is “Registration”. The only fields you need to fill are the standard ones, the left column is the standard wordpress registration fields, on the right you only need to fill in the user display name and click on the checkbox below for terms and condition acceptance.

ParticipantThanks again @danbp.
I use the frontend to create new users using the registration form.
Like @tstrickland415 described, only the xprofile field is updated during the registration process and not the actual BP Member Type.
This leads obviously to having none of the operator/vendor/coach member showing up in members directory under each type.Updating manually the member type in backend each time a new user register is probably not a good option for most sites.
Thanks again @danbp for this head start. I’ll also be looking into how to assign the member type in registration form and share it here.May 23, 2015 at 8:23 am #239563In reply to: BP Member Types not displaying or working!?!?!?

ParticipantDefault output for register and activate page is a selectbox set to — None —
As long as you haven’t allowed user registration and manually created these page, no button will be shown.
Aside it could be related to your theme. Try using 2014 or 2015 before scrubbling with CSS hacks.

ParticipantLet me re-emphasize that Buddypress is awesome, but because its so awesome these little things which I would take for granted, simply stand out, at least to me an end user.
Perhaps our perspectives are different and you guys are looking at it from coding standpoint, I do not, Im the end user and I am comparing buddypress to everything else out there.
The only sites using just username are dating sites and perhaps some forum sites, sites where specifically people do not want to reveal their identities. If someone is running that type of a site than there are no issues.
However, if I want a full name, I need at least two fields, username and then something for the full name, and ideally 3 fields, username/first name/last name, and that is weird, out of hundreds of sites I have signed up for I have never had to enter a username and name, that simply makes no sense for someone signing up, its confusing. For you guys who deal with buddypress for years perhaps its normal, but its not when you look around at everything else.
Another thing is the avatar upload, again I dont think I ever encountered another site where I wasnt able to upload an avatar on registration. It may make sense from coding stand point or something else, from end user standpoint it makes no sense.
Just my 2 cents, I love buddpress and thanks for your help as always.

Participanti’m part of the one percenter who cares about well formed urls and a basic system which is working on 23% of www’s sites !
If you have enhancement ideas, feel free to post in the appropriate forum or open a ticket on Trac.
BP is only a WP plugin and doesn’t handle registration. On the other hand, WP use a very short registering form, containing 3 fields: username, email and password.
First and last name are optionnal fields on the standard WP user profile. These fields are not mandatory, never appear on the registration page and it’s in the freedom of everyone to use them or not. When BP is installed, he provides a mandatory Name field, which can be used to enter a username or a first/last name.
Even if i have no percentage to give you, i’m pretty sure that almost all users are satisfied to use a CMS which doesn’t ask them for real names at first ! And why not their address, blood group, gran’mother nickname or their mom’s phone number ?
This are privacy options, and WP is smart enough to not abuse of such things, by default. Smart enough also to use the simpliest existing register routine, like all other major web operators, a username, a valid email and an encrypted password.
Anything else is matter of flexibility, one of the major interrest to use BuddyPress. And definetly no, not all communities have members who knows each others. Don’t make you the spokeman of such behalf speculation. 😉
I think you’re confused by system requirements and your own desires. To get it clear for the register aspect, read here please.
Oh, and the answer to your question is here:

Participant99% of people out there care about end functionality more than URLs, how does facebook solve it, -1-2 -3 is fine, and you can look at pictures if there are few with same name. Buddypress is a great product, no doubt about it, but it seems to cater to family style community where everyone knows each other, which probably explains lack of a basic function of blocking another member for example.
I am not the only one who complains about usernames, if you go back on these boards people have been talking about inconvenience of this system for a long time. The same goes for avatars, I dont care what some of the guys here tell me, you need at least an option to have avatar upload on registration.

ParticipantIf you’re talking about extended profile field groups, only the Base (Primary) Field Group shows up in the Registration Form.

ModeratorWP allows registrations without using BP.
Do you not want any registrations?
If so, did you turn off ‘Anyone can register’ in

ParticipantThank you. It is not about the registration form. But the settings page on the fron-end. None of these things work on that page.

May 13, 2015 at 2:16 am #239019Topic: Wrong Member Count
in forum How-to & TroubleshootingIHaveToDoThis
ParticipantHey all,
The “members” tab on my site-wide activity stream is showing the wrong member count and member are not showing up in the members list. It says 22 on BP, but according to my WP dashboard subscribers list I have 28.
I had two new registers in the past hour and neither one will show up in the members list on the front end although they do show up in the backend. The activity stream does show they registered as a member as well. I just did a major design change but I’ve been creating fake accounts and they showed up the member list although I didn’t notice the number glitch until today.
What could be going on that new registers would populate under members two days ago with no changes but not today? I did remove my caching plugin (W3) because it was glitching the HTML on my registration page. But I’m not sure how not having a caching plugin would interfere with how BP runs.
I’ve been digging around the members-functions file but I honestly don’t know where to start. Any pointers. I want to get this fixed asap, as you can imagine.

ParticipantIm using field type – multi select box for my registration questions.
So far example – Gender Male/Female. On desktop I see Gender box and those two choices Male and Female, on mobile, to save space I guess, I see the Gender box but there are no choices in the box, instead of male and female I see “0 selected” and that is also true for everything else, location – I have about 30 cities which on desktop i can scroll down for in the box, but on mobile again its only one line – “0 selected” and then when you click on that a list with all choices shows up, Which is fine, but that particular text “0 selected” gives an impression of an error, I want to change it to just “Select”May 9, 2015 at 11:47 pm #238902In reply to: Installed Buddypress but several things won’t work.

ParticipantThe registration page for instance has been created and can be reached at:
http://www.witnessescity.com/index.php/register-4/
You can reach it from my navigation menu, but the BuddyPress widget for some reason sets it to http://www.witnessescity.com/register-4/
How do I correct that? also I no clue why the page is blank, am I supposed to input code of some sort in the page after it has been created?

Participant@danbp thanks! but the pages are created! I went to WordPress and set them up, I did however had an error I did while trying to figure things out with the registration page pointing to the wrong url, I have fixed that since you told me, also on the BudyPress settings I have assigned them to the different components, still the pages are just blank.
Also I’m not sure what the pretty permlinks is? is this changing the Permlinks settings in wordpress to something like “Post Name” ? I’m going to read configure-components page again top to bottom, again thanks so much for your help!
PS: I changed the permlinks in wordpress to “Post Name” and now all component pages are not just blank but they cannot be found. ahhhhh I’m sooooooo confused! lol

Participantwitnessescity.com/registration/ = 404 error
means that you have no page called registration.
When activation and registration pages are not automatically created, you should do this manuallySee on BP settings Page tab. Check also the other components pages.
Have you set up pretty permalinks ?
Please read the doc

ParticipantHello @modemlooper
Yes, Registration is turn on in WordPress, and pages are assigned to the default ones that were created when BudyPress was installed, I have no idea if I have to change that or where to.
I would greately appreciate it if you could take a look please

Moderatorif you have registration turned off in WordPress settings you will have registration troubles. When you got to settings > BuddyPress and on the pages tab do you have the pages assigned to components?
May 9, 2015 at 6:33 pm #238883danbp
ParticipantThe unique field coming with BP xtended profile is called Name by default. This field name can be changed and you can add some specific description to it to fit your need.
On the register page you have on the left the 3 mandatory fields from WP
username
password
emailon the right BP’s Name field in which you can enter first and last name.

ModeratorIt sounds like the requests are being generated by a plugin or some other custom code – probably related to registration.
Try turning off all plugins except BuddyPress and see it the issue persists.May 6, 2015 at 7:27 pm #238754danbp
Participanthi @tiquality,
to show the user’s mail above the other user information, you can add the following snippet to bp-custom.php or child-theme’s functions.php
Assuming users gave a valid email at registration, we can output that address.
Avantage is that they haven’t to enter their mail a second time while completing their profile. So we just need to manually add this address to the template, using one of the action hook avaible in profile-loop.php
function tiquality_add_custom_field() { if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) ) : if ( is_user_logged_in() ) { ?> <div class="bp-widget <?php bp_the_profile_group_slug(); ?>"> <table class="profile-fields"> <tr class="my_mail"> <td class="label">Contact me</td> <td class="data"><a href="mailto:<?php bp_displayed_user_email(); ?>"><?php bp_displayed_user_email(); ?></a></td> </tr> </table> </div> <?php } endif; } add_action('bp_profile_field_buttons', 'tiquality_add_custom_field');
If you prefer it on the profile header, use the action hook indicated by Brajesh
add_action('bp_member_header_actions', 'tiquality_add_custom_field');
