    I’ve been testing the beta and I must say it’s great. The installation of the forum is just amazing. One click and it was done and working like a charm – WOW.

    Everything works fine except one tiny little problem which I don’t think is a bug. I am just wondering if anybody else had the same problem.

    All the main buttons (blog, members, groups, forums and blogs) take me to a 404 page “Page Not Found”. Everything else works fine. I can go to profiles, groups, group forum etc. without a problem. The links on the buttons look fine, just what I would expect them to be.

    My setup:

    fresh install of WPMU 2.8.4a

    fresh install of bp 1.1 beta

    fresh install of bbpress 1.0.2

    using out of the box bp theme

    It’s running on my local machine with xampp. Htaccess file is in place and url rewriting is working fine. Themes (bp-default and bp-sn-parent are in the themes directory and only the bp-default is activated.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks

    P.S. Thank you everyone who contributed to 1.1beta release. You did an awesome job.

    With 1.1, how do I change the H1 text to an img? I want to add my logo to the default theme – I guess via the custom.css file?

    #52488

    @jtle918,

    1. White screens should show up in your server logs; check the offending process and adjust to taste.

    2. Facebook Connect Plugin will probably need some adjusting for BuddyPress1.1. I know other people have experienced some lag, memory, and slowness issues using it.

    3. Yay integration!

    4. I know Burt hasn’t updated the group blogs plugin in a while, but your best bet to set default themes and settings would be to check out the WPMU new blog defaults plugin. You should be able to adapt that to set the blog theme on creation.

    Ok. New database. Fresh install of WPMU 2.4.8a. Fresh install of BP Beta 1. Copied bp-default into wp-content/themes. Activated. The theme still reports the following:

    The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent/blogs. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default. BuddyPress Default uses templates from BuddyPress Social Network Parent Theme. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

    Aye, depends on what shape bag you’re looking to use:)

    #52476

    Or with BuddyPress1.1, inherit them from a parent theme, and CSS your way out of that bag. :)

    #52475

    With BuddyPress1.1, you can also recreate a custom registration page to include only the fields you specifically want them to have on sign-up, put it in your child theme, and let it do the dirty work.

    Create a child theme, you have a lot more control and your theme will update when the parent updates. Ignore the skeleton theme it no longer takes advantage of the new things in 1.1

    Your other option is to duplicate bp-sn-parent, but this should only be done if you are changing most of the template files and your design cannot be achieved by CSS changes alone.

    If you are getting DB errors you must clear these up before reporting anything else.

    1. No plugins beside BP 1.1 Beta.

    2. There are a number of database-related errors. I won’t list them all, but they tend to follow this:

    Table ‘xxx.wp_2_options’ doesn’t exist for query INSERT INTO wp_2_options

    None of the errors mention themes.

    When I recreated the buddypress test site, I kept the same databases, only dropping the fields and their content.

    3. I’m currently running the Beta released Monday.

    4. This is all after a clean install of WPMU and BuddyPress. The only thing that stayed the same was the database.

    I guess my next step would be to create a fresh database and then reinstall WPMU and BP from scratch.

    @wordpressfan

    You have several threads with various issues floating around the forums so I cannot possibly remember all the answers that you’ve already provided to our questions.

    So, more questions/suggestions:

    • Do you have any plugins other than BP installed? If so, deactivate them and see what happens. Make sure that you are using the default theme and that you have reselected it.
    • Are there any errors in your server’s log files? I mean ANY. Do not try to decide which errors are relevant to this issue. We will decided.
    • I believe that you are running BP trunk. So this is a test site as you should not be running the bleeding-edge version on a production site. Do a clean install and see if the problem persists. This means deleting everything–all BP, WPMU, and DB files. You need to start from scratch. Don’t install any plugins other than BP, only use the default theme. What happens when you do that?

    Yes. But any wordpress theme used on a buddypress site will have to include extra files that come with the BP theme. I.e copy them.

    Maybe an idea here; in the Theme Options, it says this :

    The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent/groups. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default.

    @John James Jacoby – is it ready what you described here 3 months ago?

    I am searching for solution to make buddypress multilingual, but only in interface: theme and admin area should has multi language texts. ost dont have to be translated.

    Just something like is at wordpress.com: user register and choose language. Then he see all interface in local language, write in any language he want.

    Hi !

    Seems to have good new functionnalities !

    I have one problem though :

    I use a fresh install (WPMU 2.8.4 + BuddyPress 1.1 Beta); no plugins;

    I moved /bp-default and /bp-sn-parent to /themes;

    and I get

    Not Found

    The requested URL …./wordpress-mu/blog was not found on this server.

    Then I did copy my old .htaccess file to the fresh WPMU installation; and now I have

    Page Not Found

    The page you were looking for was not found.

    What is the problem ?

    For Buddypress 1.1 will there be a skeleton parent theme, or am I stuck with using the default parent theme and modifying that, then I might as well just create a child theme?

    I have downloaded the bleeding edge 1.1 from trac and updated mysite. I am busy with a custom theme for my site and I would like to start with a skeleton theme. However I don’t mind hacking the default one if thats best. I am a bit new to developing WPMU themes although I have done themes for Joomla and hacked a couple of normal WP themes.

    I just installed smashingtheme but unlike classic the buddypress bar isn’t appearing at the top. I assume I have to add that bit of coding in somewhere to one of the php files?

    So if I’m understanding correctly, my members create blogs and they just use standard WordPress themes which I upload to wp-content/themes and activate via Site Admin?

    I added the themes per the included instructions, moving bp-default and b-sn-parent to the main WPMU themes directory. I installed the beta versions Monday and the default theme still points to “/themes/bp-sn-parent/blogs” as the template files area.

    What could have gone awry to cause the misdirection? (The child theme still picks up the template files and other parent characteristics despite the incorrect theme information.)

    In one word: no.

    In BP 1.1, themes will work more like regular wordpress themes. I suggest you wait until then or develop your custom theme from a development version.
