KeymasterThat theme may well be out of date and incompatible with the current version of BP, I’m afraid.
What issue are you having?

ParticipantHi. I have the same problem. But it doesn’t depend on changing of themes. Simply posts from some blogs are not showing in the recent posts widget on the main page of BuddyPress site. Also new posts from these blogs are not showing in Activity widget and RSS. Because of it, problem is not in these widgets and plugins, but deeper.

Participanttray this deep integration script instead, this should fix your problem.
if ( !defined( ‘ABSPATH’ ) & !defined( ‘XMLRPC_REQUEST’ )) {
define( ‘WP_USE_THEMES’, false );
include_once( ‘/your/absolute/path/to/wordpress/wp-config.php’ );
$wp->init();
$wp->register_globals();

ParticipantIn theory you should be able to upgrade from RC1 to 1.0.3 without a problem. What truly matters is the integrity of your database. That being said, when I have not upgraded a WP site for a long time, I prefer to upgrade in several increments.
But if you follow this course, you should be okay (of course, there are no guarantees):
- backup your database–the most crucial step
- deactivate any BuddyPress-specific plugins in WPMU’s back end
- then deactivate BuddyPress itself
- delete the buddypress directory
- download BP version 1.0.3
- follow the instructions in BP’s readme.txt file
- reactivate BP sitewide
Then you will most likely have to change your theme files to get them to work.
If all goes terribly wrong, you can always redownload the old tagged version 1.0-RC1 of BP from here, restore your DB from your backup, and then reinstall and reactivate the old version.
Of course, before deleting your current version of BP, it is probably a good idea to back that up as well. That way, if something goes awry and you need to revert, you know you have the exact same files you used before.
Also, make sure that you have backup copies of your custom theme files as well.

ParticipantJeff, it sounds as if I might be better off keeping the platform the way that it is. But, unfortunately, I do not see that as being possible. I am wondering if I just remove the BP all together and then add the BP plugin, if it would be better. Then I could restructure from there. The themes and all would be simple to rework and design out the way that we want them. As for the member side of it, we can have all the members redo their profiles in the member section, which might not be a bad thing.
I am not sure if this will have a bearing on it, but from what my BP-Core file shows, this is the version that I have: define( ‘BP_CORE_VERSION’, ‘1.0-RC1’ );
Either way, it sounds like many steps have changed. Let me know what you think of the change up above if you think it would be the easier route. Otherwise, I might have to hire someone that can redo it all and just send me the files back.

KeymasterDiego, just read your trac ticket and I think I understand what you’re saying now.
You’re saying that there’s no link to the comment author in your BP forum’s post.
You should definitely describe the issue in detail next time.
Disregard what I’ve written previously.

Re-download BP 1.0.3 and make sure your BP files match up, particularly your “bp-themes/bpmember” folder.

/wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/groups/group-menu.php

ParticipantI switched back to the original BP theme, it seems to work correctly there. Where do I have to start looking then?
Compare the default theme files with your custom theme files. Also, you could be missing code in your functions.php file. Copy the code out of bphome/functions.php and paste it into your themes’ functions.php file.
Another question, if I started to work with the trac files to modifiy the new theme structure from the scratch, do I have to fear more changes until the launch of 1.1 (just to the theme files?)
You should assume that the files in trunk will be modified more. Trunk is the bleeding edge. Changes are being made to those files daily–even the theme files.

ParticipantOkay, your BuddyPress site is so far out of date that you have a lot of work ahead of you. Since you installed the pre-release version of BP, there have been five major upgrades.
Unfortunately, you upgraded WPMU before upgrading BP. It would have been better for you to get BP up to date before upgrading WPMU, but that is now water under the bridge.
To help you down this road, please read this specific post and all the links it contains:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/upgrade-confusion#post-21013
As far as using your custom theme, you will have to look at the default theme files in BuddyPress 1.0.3 and see what needs to be changed. The theme files have gone through many revisions since RC-1 was released five (or more)months ago.
And, just to be proactive, a very-major rewrite of BuddyPress will be coming out in the next several weeks. BuddyPress version 1.1 uses an entirely different theme architecture. You can read about that here.

ParticipantThanks Jeff for the first breakdown, you’re a real help here!
I’m running WPMU 2.8.1 in the root as a directory install. BuddyPress is the last stable version.
I was also thinking it might have something to do with the nonce functions. What can cause something like that? It’ll be a coding error from my side, however I’m not sure where to look.
I modified the skeleton member theme to work with my WordPress theme design. I have not modified any of the core, just added custom functions to the skeleton theme.

KeymasterI’m a believer of having some sort access to a trial version, or maybe demonstration site, when it comes to OSS. Of course need/should be able to charge money! For example I wouldnt buy a WP theme if I was only able to see a static image of one page before handing it over.

Participantjeff or anyone else,
i tried adding the tables myself and they show up and work just fine but it didn’t resolve my issue so i’m gonna assume i need to do what suggests in this thread but i want to confirm the steps and order of those steps. pls confirm these are the steps and order to remove buddypress and reinstall manually for a website that has been in production for awhile but recently upgraded to wpmu2.8.4a and bp1.0.3. i have data and members that i need to save.
1. Read the ReadMe file
2. Backup database
3. Backup themes, plugins, wp-config, .htaccess and entire site, etc…..
4. deactivate buddypress
5. delete the bp directory
6. manually delete the bp tables in the database (tables that begin with bp_)
7. manually install bp
8. do this https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/site-wide-activity-widget-not-working#post-22156
is that all?

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterThis is a request for help with CSS for a custom theme and not to do with the theme that comes with BP. Therefore I have renamed the topic as “CSS Errors” suggests there is an error with the BuddyPress.
Also, these forums are for BuddyPress support and not the best place to ask for CSS help but I’m sure someone will help

ParticipantUm, actually, if you use a multi-site plugin you should be able to do what you want. (I admit, I skimmed, but that’s what I got out of it…) Some edits might be required so they don’t share users.
“will it be possible for every member to have their blog integrated into the main site? I don’t like how when they register a blog it kicks them to what looks like Kubrick or w/e the default MU theme is.”
Again, been done a lot, answered plenty. sue the more_blog_defaults plugin or simply replace the ugly default theme with one of your choosing (in a folder called default). don’t enable any other theme and they won’t be able to choose any different, plus get the one you want on setup.

KeymasterHey Jfcarter,
There is no add_action for this function as the changes require manually replacing the existing message button function in the BP member template.
Were you able to get this working before? Or is this the first time you’re trying this?
Anyway, follow these steps:
(1) Make sure you put the bp_send_message_to_friend_button() function in your /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php
(2) Replace the bp_send_message_button() function with the newly, created bp_send_message_to_friend_button() in your BP member template.
If you’re using the default BP member template, you have to replace the function in these places:
* /bp-themes/bpmember/activity/just-me.php
* /bp-themes/bpmember/wire/latest.php
* /bp-themes/bpmember/profile/index.php
If you’re using a modified version of the BP member template, you’ll need to manually find each instance of the bp_send_message_button() function and replace it.

Just FYI, I’m no longer using this function as we did indeed wanted users to message non-friends.

ParticipantAre there other errors in your server’s log files?
Are you using a custom theme? If so, switch to the default BuddyPress themes and see if the problem goes away.
<buddypress>Do I have to install some jquery thing before using buddypress?</buddypress>
No. BuddyPress does not load the JQuery library but WPMU does. Currently, WPMU uses JQuery version 1.2.6.
Do you have any plugins other than Buddypress activated? If so, try disabling them and see what happens. There could be a JQuery version conflict somewhere.

ParticipantFirst of all, we have very little information with which to provide you assistance. What version of WPMU are you running? What version of BuddyPress?
Please reference this thread an answer the questions.
Finally, the message:
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
often indicates a nonce security failure message. It can happen if you have not updated the BP themes or are using a custom theme (i.e. any theme other than the ones that come with BuddyPress). Try switching to the default BP themes and see if the issue goes away. If it does, then you know it has something to do with the theme you’re using.

Participantthanks..so if I’m using, say, carrington-blog for my wordpress home theme, then it would go in the carrington-blog directory? If so, I just tried that and it always results in a page not found. Am I doing something wrong? Note, I have the code in the functions.php file (which is in the carrington-blog folder) and the file it points to in that folder as well – as per your instructions…thanks

ParticipantBpisimone, I think what you meant was discussed in another topic, I was writing about editing images from 3 different directories to adjust my design, which can become a bit annoying when upgrading.
In this topic it’s about making the forums look the same like the rest of the site, including buddybar (this one is already working on the bbpress default theme), header, navigataion and footer. Or did I get something wrong?

All of this is going to be included in the September 1.1 update as Andy is implementing WordPress’ child theme possibilities.

ParticipantIt must be possible somehow, b/c these forums here are integrated the same way. It is still stand-alone, but looking the same like the rest of this site. Please guys, tell us your secret.

The equivalent to wp-config is bb-config in your bbpress/ folder. I do have a path to my wp-blog-header.php, but that was for put the buddybar on top of the forums. I also have experimented with ThemePress, a theme that’s supposed to load your header and footer, but it all looks messy and won’t show the buddybar, or the link to the forums in my nav.
Any other ideas would be welcome.
