    Hello,

It looks like you’re facing a PHP warning related to the BuddyPress plugin on your WordPress site. The error message indicates that there’s an issue with an undefined array key “media” in the mentioned file class-bp-core-bp-nav-backcompat.php at line 111.

Here’s how you might approach fixing this issue:

Check Plugin Compatibility: Make sure that your current version of BuddyPress (11.2.0) is fully compatible with the version of WordPress you’re using. Plugin updates or WordPress updates can sometimes introduce compatibility issues.

Review the Code at Line 111: Open the file class-bp-core-bp-nav-backcompat.php and navigate to line 111. Examine the code around this line to understand the context of the error. It seems that there’s an attempt to access an array key “media” that might not be defined.

Check Plugin Settings: If the “media” key is supposed to exist in that context, review the plugin’s settings to ensure you’ve configured it properly. There might be a setting related to media that needs to be configured or enabled.

Update or Reinstall BuddyPress: If the issue persists, consider updating BuddyPress to the latest version if available. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you could try temporarily deactivating and then reactivating the BuddyPress plugin. This can sometimes help refresh settings and resolve minor glitches.

Theme and Plugin Conflicts: It’s possible that the issue is caused by a conflict between BuddyPress and another plugin or your theme. Try deactivating other plugins one by one to see if the issue goes away. If it does, you can identify the conflicting plugin and investigate further. Similarly, try switching to a default WordPress theme temporarily to see if the issue persists.

Debugging: If you’re comfortable with debugging, you can add some debugging statements to the code around line 111 to print out relevant values and see what might be causing the issue. This can help you narrow down the problem.

Remember to create a backup of your site and database before making any significant changes. Also, keep an eye out for updates to both BuddyPress and WordPress, as they might release patches or updates that address issues like this.

As for “FOLLOWTWITCHGURUS,” it seems like you’ve included this term, but it’s not directly related to the error you’re facing. If “FOLLOWTWITCHGURUS” is relevant to your query, please provide more context so I can assist you better.

    Update:

    @earl_d
I just tested with WordPress 6.3 & BuddyPress 11.3.1, no other plugins or custom code, having Twenty Nineteen theme active and using a regular WP config (as opposed to multisite) : everything behaves as expected.

Has the 404 errors been fixed yet? I just created a new install, installed a new version of buddypress, and add the pages to a new menu. The Activity and Member page is now working, but the Setting is still not. Now if I go into Pages, and open the pages directly, they work fine. But not from the menu or the backend from the top right hand corner. Changing permalinks doesn’t help as it points them to other pages. I tried on another computer, same thing. Hosting company is on it’s third day still trying to figure the issue. It’s not any of the default themes, although with SocialV, their buddypress plugin doent’s even recognize that buddypress is already installed! I’m using the latest PHP version, no clue. All other pages work except buddypress pages. I saw this same issue in the forums, but no one knew the answer or the fix for this, and many of them are just left unanswered.

It seems that you’re encountering issues with your website, https://buriedladies.com, specifically related to the registration page and the functionality of BuddyPress. After deleting and re-uploading BuddyPress, the register page appears blank despite setting up everything correctly according to the instructional videos you’ve watched. Additionally, you’ve noticed that when you log out of the site, the register option disappears from the top menu, which is puzzling.

Regarding your second concern, it appears that individuals have successfully registered for your site due to your invitation to join groups. You’re wondering if there’s a way to manually assign them to specific groups.

Considering the situation, here are a few steps you could take:

Check Theme Compatibility: Since you’re using a Genesis theme, it’s important to ensure that it’s fully compatible with the latest versions of WordPress and BuddyPress. Sometimes, theme conflicts can lead to unexpected issues. Make sure your theme is up to date and well-suited for BuddyPress integration.

Plugin and Theme Conflict: Conflicts between plugins or themes can lead to unusual behavior. Deactivate all other plugins except BuddyPress and switch to a default WordPress theme temporarily. See if the registration page works in this scenario. If it does, then the issue likely stems from a conflict. You can reactivate plugins and your theme one by one to identify the culprit.

Permalinks: Check your site’s permalink settings. Sometimes, incorrect settings can lead to pages not displaying as intended. Go to Settings > Permalinks and make sure you have a valid permalink structure selected.

BuddyPress Settings: Double-check your BuddyPress settings, especially those related to registration and user roles. Ensure that the registration page is properly assigned in the settings and that user roles are set up correctly.

Cache and Cookies: Clear your browser cache and cookies to ensure you’re viewing the most recent version of your site.

As for your second concern about moving users into specific groups, BuddyPress doesn’t natively offer a feature to manually assign users to groups. However, you can encourage users to join specific groups after registration by providing clear instructions on your site.

Regarding “TWITCHFUSION,” it’s still unclear how this term relates to the context you’ve provided. If “TWITCHFUSION” has specific relevance to your website or the issues you’re facing, please provide more information so that I can address it accurately.

We’re looking at switching themes and are running into an issue with registration in the new theme. We have our registration page configured in s2 member and turned on. But the url redirects to the BuddyPress registration page instead.

Our current theme has a setting where we can choose which page to use for registration; the new theme does not. Support for the new theme’s response was basically “we don’t have that, you need some code and we don’t do that.” Have asked s2 if they know how to resolve but no response yet.

We’d love to be able to use this theme as we’re running it on our other (far less complicated)sites. Any ideas?

My site is https://buriedladies.com. My register page is blank. I deleted buddypress today and uploaded a new copy. The software creates the page but it’s blank. I’ve enabled anyone to register and they become subscribers. I’ve watched 3-4 videos and I have everything set up correctly. When I log out of the site, the register disappears from the top menu. I’m totally flummoxed.

Meanwhile, folks registered for my SITE because I’ve asked them to join my groups. Is there any way to move them into a group?

I have the most recent version of WordPress and buddypress. I’m using a Genesis theme.

    Hey

    Its Jason

The blog I have been working on provides information regarding technology, the latest tech news, reviews, and other information that is relevant to the industry. Since I’m using a WordPress customized theme on that blog, now I’m looking to change the theme to BuddyPress. How can I migrate my Desktop Bold website without losing traffic and ranking? Moreover, I also don’t want to change the UI/UX.

    Thanks

Hi @imath. and thank you for your response. I have tried the css override as you describe, and it doesn’t work, so I’m guessing this may be a theme conflict. Any suggestions welcome as to how I can investigate that.
So as I understand it I have to wait for the beta2 to be able to see and add things like Profile, Notifications etc to the Menu? And this will be accessible in Appearance > Menus and the Customizer, right? Or will this form part of the URLs section in BP Settings? And is there any date yet for beta2?
    Thanks.

    Hi @awol

Thanks a lot for your testing and feedback.

About the CSS override: you need to put the buddypress.css & buddypress.min.css inside the /wp-content/themes/your-child-theme-name/css folder. I just tested with a Twenty Nineteen child theme and it behaves as expected.

About the WP Nav Menus we use for the logged in user BP links, the issue is fixed into our development version, it will be included into our 12.0-beta2 release.

As I’ve explained here, 12.0.0 no longer uses regular WordPress pages as the directory page of a BuddyPress component. You’ll see a “BuddyPress Directories” section into the Customizer UI to manage menus. If you use the regular Admin screen, you’ll need to activate the “BuddyPress Directories” checkbox into your screen options > See the screenshot above.

    Hi @imath,
I don’t know if one of the below might be related to what @vapvarun posted, but in my early testing of 12.0.0-beta1 (with latest WP and using Blocksy theme and Nouveau) there are a few things cropping up; firstly I don’t seem able to customise the css by duplicating Nouveau’s css in my Blocksy child theme folder, either inside a buddypress folder or just in the child theme folder, and can only achieve changes in my child theme’s style.css (I suspect this is unrelated to the new Buddypress but I haven’t yet tried it with Legacy); secondly, it doesn’t seem possible to add a main menu link to the currently logged in user that is visible at all times – I have created a custom link but it only appears in the menu when viewing the various sections (i.e. Profile, Activity etc); thirdly, I was struggling to add a sidebar to any of the BP pages, even though my default Blocksy setting is for each page to have one, and discovered that (in Blocksy at least) in Customizer it is counting BP pages as Blog Posts, whereas intuitively I would have thought this should be set in the BP specific sections, and without extensive css work means that Blog Pages and BP pages will always have to be the same. Are you considering adding/improving what can be done in the Customizer at some point? I have found I have to make an awful lot of CSS edits anyway to get BP to match my colour scheme and preferences in previous versions of BP and it would be a huge boon if at least some of this can be achieved with the Customizer settings (or a settings page in the plugin). BP has never followed my theme defaults, but I don’t know if that is because of the theme (and the two standard BP templates) I use or if it is like this for everyone.

    Hello all,
I cannot find where to change that every update that a group posts to its feed is always posted in the name of the group profile, not the personal administrator name. I know there is a function for it, but I cannot find the theme file / place where to edit it in.

    Hi @vapvarun

In 12.0.0, Directory page are using a custom post type, and everything is managed from the URLs settings tab which replaces the Pages settings tab where page mapping were performed.

From the URLs tab you can customize the title and the slug of BP Directory pages.

As I’m not using the WP Legacy Menu UI of the screenshot you added (I completely moved to Block Themes), I don’t check often the Logged in/out Member menu items. I think last time I checked it was ok, are you using a specific theme/plugin playing into this area?

    I am using BuddyBoss theme.
I would like to hide comments on the activiy home page and just let it enabled when someone see the activity individual page.

    I tried this solution
    https://support.buddyboss.com/support/solutions/articles/72000594134-hide-comments-on-the-activity-feed

Although there is a bug and dont load the activies. Also looks like this disable the comment feature, what is not I am looking for.

I also tried to remove the div acomment-content in the document bp-templates>bp-nouveau>buddypress>activity>comment.php, althought this removed as well from the individual activity page. I would like to do as Twitter: its possible to comment on the activy feed and it shows in the activy page how many comments the update have, but the comments are only visible in the activity page.

Saving settings gives a “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page” message.
Trying to set to Nouveau won’t save. It just keeps going back to Legacy. Totally not working anymore.

Troubleshooting attempts included shutting down other plugins, turning on registration of new users and sites, deleting table data in phpMvAdmin, etc. Tried deleting the subsite and recreating it. tried switching up themes. Tried clearing the cache. All work using Superadmin accounts.
The rest of the multisite is working fine.

No luck. Am I missing something that keeps it hopelessly broken, no matter how many times I try to wipe it and try again?

Backstory: On a multisite. Past experiments with Buddypress on this multisite. Problems emerged during attempts to set up a new site in the multisite using Buddypress.

I can’t change the avatar image. Whenever I go to put an image, it tells me to cut it and after that the following message appears: “There was a problem when cropping your profile picture.” I already removed all the plugins and the theme leaving only the buddypress plugin and still the same error appears. Any solution for the problem?

    Hello!

First, what’s the difference between the Ideas forum and the Requests & Feedback forum here? I’m picking this one to share my thoughts but they seem similar.

I have used BuddyPress off and on for many years. Currently, I use it in a sort of odd way. I only use the activity feed. Most everything else I disable or redirect.

I’ve wondered for a while now if BuddyPress was fading away or if it would get another round of major updates and I’m excited to see the news here that major changes are coming.

I hesitate to share my thoughts in places like this because:

    1. I usually don’t participate here and so why would anyone want to hear my thoughts
    2. Related to #1, usually when it comes to WordPress or BuddyPress it feels like it would be very rare for a casual user like me to have an idea that actually gets adopted.

Still, I’ve decided to log in, say hello, and offer a couple of thoughts. This is why I have installed, but then uninstalled BuddyPress over the years:

    1. Lack of features
    2. Looks

It seems like in the latest news posts both of these will be addressed.

To be a little more specific, especially these days, the activity feed needs more than attachments, likes, and other things I’ve seen mentioned. It also needs link previews. Most easy-to-install, self-hosted software like BuddyPress and WordPress, don’t come with auto link previews by default. Even newer software like Flarum which I used for a while doesn’t have it by default. It’s a default expected behavior these days (IMHO).

Every major social site has this feature now.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the new vibes theme will look like. BuddyPress definitely needs to look great to boost interest again. Speed, security, and features are all important. But, especially for non-developers, it’s the looks that make people want to install something like BuddyPress. Because it’s the looks that attract visitors.

As an example of modern looks, (I’m not saying BuddyPress should look exactly like this because BuddyPress isn’t a forum), I would like to suggest that the devs look at https://waterhole.dev/.

It’s not easy or always fun working on open-source software like this. I know that an insane amount of time and heart goes into it. I always like to just say, thank you. To the developers.

Thank you and here’s to BuddyPress sticking around for many more years! (Again, please think about the auto-open graph with some kind of backup, link preview system.)
