@blixus Confirmed that based on the HTML structure of your theme, you will be only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make the BP templates compatible with your theme.

If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your celebritypress theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your celebritypress theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

    A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php

Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
    `

    `

    Save file.

@jloc14 You could wrap the activity-loop.php of a child theme with an if statement which checks to see if the user is logged in. At the very top above the first opening php tag in the activity-loop.php copy and paste this:
`You must be logged in to view this sites activity. Click here to sign up.`
Then after the last line of code in the activity-loop.php copy and paste this:

Just replace the URL with your websites domain and save the file. It will keep non-members from viewing the activity stream and the link will direct them to the registration page. Its not a perfect solution but it is a quick fix. To add a basic friend check follow this tutorial by Sarah Gooding here: http://wpmu.org/how-to-add-profile-privacy-to-buddypress/
    Hope this helps!

Could I clarify where you are looking as http://testbp.org/groups/twitter/ is my assumption and as you can see that filter works for replies. My guess is that perhaps this is a theme issue – have you checked on that page you don’t have any scripting errors?

Alternatively if you could provide a link that would help a little or maybe you are able to test the default BuddyPress theme? I know it’s not a direct answer but it’s hard to guess without knowing a little more about your site.

Usually you’d see everything in activity stream for the site – as it’s that the stream for site. It sounds like either a plugin or maybe theme issue though if that’s not the case. I know you may not be able to as a live site, but can you try the default theme? If not, perhaps examine / test if any plugin?

If none of that helps perhaps you could provide a link to see your site? Unfortunately, it’s hard to judge until see something for self.

Logically bp_get_group_is_public() is the function you want to use —

That said, I can’t find anywhere in the core code where is_public is getting set, or getting used in the default theme. @djpaul – is this a set of functions that should be stripped out – they appear unused and not working.

Instead, the default template makes use of bp_get_group_type(), which in turn uses the $group->status attribute (as you’ve tried). In your case, are you sure you’ve setup your $group variable correctly?

Your plugin was actually the first thing I tried when I noticed the problem. It’s still running on my site with the core links in the order I chose, however, it’s not seeming to put them in any order.

I was going to try and sleep on it then try to figure it out, but I can’t get to sleep knowing I have this problem. It’s my bit of OCD I suppose. :)

I think the main problem is that the Gantry for BuddyPress and RocketTheme template framework removes a lot of the WordPress code and replaces it with standard html in their own files. Not sure if that makes any sense… lack of sleep and all.

I didn’t know if there was any way to use a bp-custom.php to manually make the changes to the core or the additional plugin links?

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I can think better one I get some shut-eye.

It’s tricky to say not having a link to your site as a starting point to consider things. It could be that some plugin or even your theme is interfering with the links working. Probably a good starting point would be to re-save your permlinks (this probably isn’t the issue but a good check) under settings.

Then look to see if any redirect / plugins are interacting. If you are able (and you may not be able to on a live site) set to the BuddyPress default theme and see if that solves the issue. Could you have added any custom code to the theme?

Ok, I followed your directions and still no bb tables (I am reactivating my theme and plugins now, so that users don’t get disgruntled, but let me know if you need to see it with the default). What do you think are my options now?

Okay, thanks. I am not using the buddypress theme – so would this still apply to that? Here’s the code in there now:

    —-

    `

    `

    —-

    I added the “width:’30px'” inside

and it’s probably wrong because nothing happened. What would be the correct way to limit the width?

Your pages are reading the CSS perfectly correctly.

It’s your templates that need adjusting – you’ve installed a photo plugin, and not rewritten the templates to work with your theme.

You may find a kindly soul on here who’ll rewrite your templates for free for you – alternatively, you could try posting on the job board for a developer: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-jobs-board/forum/

@blixus let’s work on the alignment first. Open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste into pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php

Thanks for your response. The theme is celebritypress, which is not mentioned in the list you refer to. My site is chicks.nl; I can give you access if needed. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

== however, for the bbpress forums I clicked a drop down menu in setting to make it use bbpress 2011 theme ==

Change it to the other option and see if issue is corrected.

@maryefern so something’s blocking the creation of the bb tables.
    – Delete bb-config.php,
    – change to bp-default theme,
    – deactivate ALL plugins except BuddyPPress,
    – go to BuddyPress > Forums
    – reinstall Group Forums
    – check if bb tables are created in DB

    @mercime

@andrea_r thank you. At the time I answered in my second post, @maryefern ‘s site had the Eleven40 theme and many plugins activated in the site as it is right now, hence reference to Genesis plugin and forums.

    @maryefern

    1. check if the seven xx_bb_xx tables for the group forums were created in your database when you installed Group Forums, as seen here

    2. if the tables are there, then change to bp-default theme and deactivate ALL plugins except BuddyPress to check if issue is resolved.

“You’ll find the template at bp-default” check
    could be in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/activity

or in your themes members folder as per mercime

    cheers

    @alexcurrie123 You’ll find the template at bp-default or your theme’s /members/single/activity/permalink.php

    1. If you don’t like the themes available for BP, then you don’t have to diss them here.

    2. “Search at the bottom that is not aligning and I would like to delete it entirely”
    – I see “Play fetch …” text and “Switch to Mobile” link, which could have been inserted by a mobile plugin.

    3. Something went awry with your fixing alignment of the BP template files, I checked your Members Directory page and code is showing up instead of content.

Hi raminjan, I think a little more information would help in determining what is going on. Are you using a custom theme? Could you provide a link to see the theme in action?

== I am aware that I should copy and rename the former 3 pages in header-buddypress.php etc and match these with the following two theme pages: ==

@blixus Initial scan of the codes posted does support creating only two files to align structure rather than revising 16 files for your theme. What’s the name of your theme? Did you check if it was already “template-packed” per list near the bottom of this page? -> https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

    #138259

@mercime Yes, the theme is on the page you suggested.

Thanks for the additional link, will try that out!

== Please describe fully how it is not working when you are using the default BP theme. ==

When using the default BP theme, I made sure that group forums were installed and that the bb-config.php file had the correct settings. Then I went into a group I already had set up and tried starting a new topic. No go. Then I deleted the group and made a new one, but still no go. I also tried toggling the checkbox, “Enable discussion forum” under the admin settings on the front-end, but still getting the same red error message. In other words, the results are exactly the same regardless of whether I have the default theme installed or not.

“Tried deactivating BP Template Pack and switched to default BP theme, but still not working. Also created a new group, but still not working. “

Please describe fully how it is not working when you are using the default BP theme.

If you cannot get it working using the default Buddypress theme – it’s not a Genesis issue and the plugin will not help.
