Participantok. this is happening with buddypress as the sole plugin active. (Single site install bp default theme admin user, non admin user – the behavior is as described above)
opened a ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4320

MemberThanks a lot karmatosed, seems like its going the right direction
Karmatosed, maybe there is a way to apply this particular cs styling to those pages only? or just to “pages” in wordpress and not the main one as well as post types?

Roger Coathup
ParticipantNo, you don’t need to use a child theme.
You can work the way you do with Twenty Eleven – copying over the parts of bp-default that you want to reuse into a clean non-child theme. We build all our BuddyPress sites this way.
We do it for a number of reasons: completely different layout structures, markup, and to better allow our clients to upgrade –
If you are building a site for a client, making your site a child of bp-default is not a future proof approach. Often update releases of BuddyPress change look, feel and functional elements in bp-default – if your client upgrades their site and it is a child of bp-default, they will have these changes forced on them.

ModeratorYes. The BuddyPress template files are in the plugins folder and get written over on upgrade. It’s a safety measure to use a child theme in case you make mistakes.
in a future BP version BP will use something like template parts and you can use any theme.

ParticipantPresume this is the best place for feedback. if not let me know and i’ll do a separate topic.
Bp 1.6 Beta 1 and up to trunk 6154 and wp 3.4.1 local install
on a single site with bp default theme and on a multisite with child of bp default.
Changes to Profile fields visibility don’t seem to be sticking
Hobbies – not a required field Who can see this field ? Anyone (default)
Change Anyone to Logged in Users and Press Save Changes.
Green Box arrives on top of page —-> Changes Saved
But the changes are NOT saved. Everything stays the same !
Refresh page/Empty cache —> No help,
Same for non-admin user as for admin.
I have a good few plugins active and that possibly could be the cause.
Will disable these tomorrow to check.
In the meantime it would be great to have this confirmed or refuted.

ParticipantI’ve made a summary for others and as a reminder:
This is the code you must add around line 30 in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/member-header.php:
`Location:Hobbies:<a href="”>Url:`
And how do I make the url clickable?
June 30, 2012 at 12:56 pm #136616Tammie Lister
ModeratorIt seems you need to set some widths and CSS adjustments to your theme’s CSS – this usually happens when doing theme compatibility as it’s not a simple case of drop in. As a starting point I would suggest:
`#primary {
padding: 0 0 0 20px;
position: relative;
width: 50%;
float: left;
}`Which will for instance on the activity page pop the main body up and keep the sidebars.

ParticipantHello guys,
I’ve found and added this code in member-header.php and it’s almost working:
`Location: </spanHobbies:`
The location is displayed correctly, but hobbies are displayed as”Hobbies: array”.
I’ve checked profile field Hobbies; Field type= Multi select Box. This might be the problem if you use this option.1. How do I display the selected boxes?
2. Do I have to copy the above mentioned code to the Frisco theme? If so where?June 30, 2012 at 12:01 pm #136609Kookidooki
ParticipantHello guys,
Yes I’m using the Frisco theme for Buddypress and I’m completely at lost
…
and I was not aware that the Frisco theme was a child-theme.I’m now figuring out how to add my created profile fields “Location” and “Hobbies” in the member’s header.

Participant@kookidooki Are you using the bp-default theme or a custom one here? Providing all pertinent detail is very important. Rogers guidance in his first post pointed out that there are actually instructions on how to add further xprofile fields, if you have created new profile fields then it should now be a simple matter of following the guide in the member-header file, let us know if that is proving an issue and perhaps provide an example of the code you are trying to add.

ParticipantIf you are not tech savvy, it sounds like you would be best to hire a developer to do this development work.
It would also be helpful if you posted full information on here – like the theme you are trying to modify – I notice you have asked the same question on the Frisco theme forums

ParticipantEvery BuddyPress version from 1.0.1 to 1.5.6 comes with bp-default as part of the plugin package.
Start with the documentation on theming BuddyPress: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/the-bp-default-theme/
Also, look at the BuddyPress files in your plugin directory.

ParticipantHello Roger,
What version of Buddypress are you using cause I couldn’t find the files member-header.php and bp-default theme.
I’m using the latest version of Buddypress.
Thx in advance,
Kookidooki.June 30, 2012 at 6:20 am #136600@mercime
Participant== Should I install both? ==
@giovanniw650 No need.
Install only what you want/need – in this case, group forums.== Or maybe its just not compatible with my Theme. ==
Post a throw-away username and password here so we can see what’s up with the site.June 30, 2012 at 2:49 am #136596In reply to: Layout & Sidebar Issues
@mercime
Participant@patrickhitches you can use your theme’s full width page layout if you have one for your forums.
As for layout, looks like there’s a conflict with your theme’s table styles with that of the bbPress forums styles. In upcoming BP 1.6/bbPress 2.1, you can opt for the default “table-less” layout in forums settings..
Use/install Firebug with Firefox to ID and change the styles of respective widths of forum elements

Participant@socialrocketship to download the 6 BP folders, use FTP/File Manager and go to server wp-content/themes/chameleon/ folder then download the 6 folders mentioned in my previous posts

Participant== changed permalinks etc so all appears to be ok, ==
@bobscott the permalinks have not been fixed. Deactivate BuddyPress and change to Twenty Eleven theme, then resolve the permalinks issue on your Windows server at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
June 29, 2012 at 6:03 pm #136569@mercime
Participant@lakhlu you have a different theme from theme-junkie, so the instructions here won’t be applicable to your theme as I see by the misalignment e.g. at http://kinogrill.org/members/gaba12/
Start a new topic and include your theme’s codes for header.php, sidebar.php, etc like stunod85 provided above.

ModeratorIt’s not a glitch it’s a feature.
add (to a plugin, to your theme’s functions.php file, or to your bp-custom.php file)
remove_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘xprofile_filter_link_profile_data’, 2 );June 28, 2012 at 8:24 pm #136536Giovanniw650
MemberI’m guessing that this is just a bug that there is no answer/fix to it yet? Or maybe its just not compatible with my Theme.
June 28, 2012 at 6:41 pm #136530In reply to: bp 1.6 & template files
valuser
ParticipantThanks.
Why I had asked was that i noticed after doing updates to wp 3.4.1 and updating buddypress that on some test sites with child themes the bp compatibility notice was present.
On clicking it brought me to the screen 1 of the bp template compatibility pack.
As the theme already had the folders in-situ I would have thought it would have brought me to screen 3 of the bp compatibilty pack as in previous updates.
As it happens i had done (as i presume others would do) tiny tweaks to the activity, group index & group loop files.
So if I had pressed the compatibility button I presume my tweaks would have been lost.
When I update buddypress again, i’ll pay more attention to see if this repeats.

valuser
ParticipantMy apologies.
i have it in functions.php of the theme – in this case a child of bp-default theme
yes! that site first went to http://localhost/members/user1//friends/ (2 forward slashes) then resolved to http://localhost/members/user1/friends/ 1 forward slash –correct site
try
` function rt_login_redirect($redirect_to, $set_for, $user){
$redirect_to = bp_core_get_user_domain($user->ID).’friends/’;
return $redirect_to;
}
add_filter(‘login_redirect’, ‘rt_login_redirect’, 20, 3);`forward slash taken away. It now goes there straight away.
hopefully for you as well.

Jaja..
MemberBummer,
And what if i lets say use Twenty Eleven as default theme and use the BuddyPress ‘Use your own Theme’ Support plugin?
Than BuddyPress files are added to my Twenty Eleven theme correct? -
