In reply to: Easel Theme – Buddypress Alignment problem
@mercime
ParticipantMost of the CSS issues can be resolved by adding the styles I mentioned in final instruction
D. Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.

ParticipantGoing into”My Account” > “Messages” for example (when logged in as ‘test’ this is what I see http://fifaadvocate.com/members/test/messages/ ) the tabs displayed below “Activity Profile Messages Friends Groups Settings” get cut off at Settings. Other alignment problems are present when you visit the “Members” tab in the menu under my Header ( HOME: / ABOUT THE FIFA ADVOCATE/MEMBERS/ACTIVITY/GROUPS or http://fifaadvocate.com/members/ ) . The “Search Members” bar is cut off at the top, once you click on Order By: Last Archive, the options overlap with the right side bar, and the friends request sent next to the Fifa Advocate member is cut off by the right side bar. These were the alignment problems I was referring to, not about the “My Account” drop down menu at the top of the screen, as that displays fine also on my Mac running Safari as well as Firefox.

Did you enable registration in dashboard menu Settings > General – Membership ?June 15, 2012 at 11:18 pm #135876In reply to: Easel Theme – Buddypress Alignment problem

Participant== I am still left with one problem in the main posts area of the webpages. The Buddypress bar that displays “Activity Profile Messages Friends Groups Settings” gets cutoff half way through the ‘Settings’ by my site’s right sidebar. ==
I’m logged in. The dropdown from the BP bar from the “My Account” menu shows up completely. In other words, it does not get cut off half way through. Checked this using Chrome, Firefox and IEabove. What browser are you using?
Also the dropdown opens up over the left sidebar not right sidebar. Are you referring to something else?

ParticipantHi there –
really pleased you like the way we layed out the members directory on Stuconnect.
We’ve experimented with a few different directory setups – the row of ’tiles’ being one of our favourites. We’ve used a similar approach on http://www.enterprisenation.com/members , and on our latest BuddyPress based site: http://www.worshipministry.com/members
The standard layout in bp-default is not very space efficient. The ’tile’ approach allows us to show more members in the same screen real estate, as well (in our opinion) as looking cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing.
It’s a combination of work on two template files in the theme: /members/index.php and /members/members-loop.php . In our sites, we tend to rework all of the theme from scratch, but do stick with a similar folder-file structure as bp-default – as well as re-using some of the basic PHP loop structures.
The clever work on the http://stuconnect.co.uk/members/ page is in creating the filter by University on the directory – we grab the name of the University from the query vars, and then do a little pre-filtering of the user IDs before passing them into the member loop (some restrictions on the BuddyPress loop filtering prevent us doing this in one step).
Best regards, Roger. http://21inspired.com

Participant@waseem-tubasum not clear on which and what navigation bar you’re referring to. Is it the main navigation beside the site title/logo? If so, what theme are you using?

Participant== The extra classes are gone now, but the menu is still showing up as a bullet list. ==
The menu was never rendered as bullet list so I don’t understand what you mean that it “is still showing up as bullet list.” The latest version of Frisco theme is version 1.5.04 so do make sure that’s the version you’re using.
Also, make sure that you didn’t delete anything from the navigation menu in your theme’s header.php. You can compare it with theme’s original header.php file – https://themes.svn.wordpress.org/frisco-for-buddypress/1.5.04/header.php
If you made any changes to the stylesheet, then re-upload theme’s original style or copy over . https://themes.svn.wordpress.org/frisco-for-buddypress/1.5.04/style.css

MemberHi Aces, thanks for the advice, I think I found the real problem, and I´ll call it ¨Bluehost¨, I use their hosting service and have several problems (everytime I use a new theme something is not working)….I may have to find a hosting service that is real friendly with wordpress because not all of them are optimized….

thanks this theme looks great, i test it out just to try it out but some how the background image/background color/ color links dont seem to work? at all.. im running buddypress 1.5.5 and wordpress 3.3 but it seems the theme works great no fatal errors nothing which i think its weird also another thing i wanted to ask you is there a way i can easily show the background color/ background image in different parts of the profile example like in the profile header box like below`
body.user-profile-header{
background:();
}
`@mercime
i have surely looked into that but for me its hard to add color picker functionally and stuff and set user id sava data so its best to have a live sample already created so i can start from it and tweak it,
but either way thanks for the help.June 15, 2012 at 4:31 pm #135845In reply to: Easel Theme – Buddypress Alignment problem

Participant== However I can’t find how to open the forums, register, or activate pages at the top of my website to make a test account.==
You’re getting quite off-topic here. This is not related to Easel theme in any way. Did you go through the Installation Wizard after you activated BuddyPress?
== I’ve tried http://fifaadvocate.com/register/ but this directs me back to the home screen. ==
That usually happens when you’re logged in and then go to register page. You need to log out first. to register. Also, you could always create a test user account via wp-admin Users > Add New
June 15, 2012 at 3:48 pm #135838In reply to: Change Buddypress theme?
@mercime
ParticipantFirst of all, since you’re new to BuddyPress I suggest that you use the bp-default theme during Installation Wizard or later via dashboard menu Appearance > Themes while you’re setting up and exploring the different BuddyPress components available in your installation.
== Now I cannot go back and select the correct theme to integrate BP with my WP theme. ==
Just go to dashboard menu Appearance > Themes and choose the theme you want to use in your installation. If you’re going to use a WP theme for the BP install, know that you need to install/activate BP Template Pack plugin as well and go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process.

I’ve tried http://fifaadvocate.com/register/ but this directs me back to the home screen. Anything I can do to open these pages?

chennareddya
Memberi have been working in localhost URL is like: http://abcdev.arn/dcomm (i installed wordpress under this folder, and i installed BP, BB press plugins only. Theme is buddypress default theme).
I created 1 menu, 4 cusom categories (for my specific purpose). After installing BP, i got a message like—->: “BuddyPress is almost ready. You must update your permalink structure to something other than the default for it to work.”
If i change the permalink to other structure, my custom categories are redirects to error page. But the BuddyPress links are redirecting to error pages in either case!!
On top of the home page i can see “login”, “sign up” links. login is working fine but sign up is giving error like —> “The requested URL /dcomm/register/ was not found on this server.”
Please ask me for any other details you require..
Thanks,

Tammie Lister
ModeratorJust to add, the default BuddyPress theme itself is responsive now. So, you can get responsive out of the box.
Many of those other themes do a bit more ‘responsive’ the default is a bit minimal about what it does but it was a conversion to responsive not done ground up.

ModeratorWhilst it’s not just by style.css, the theme currently being developed as a community project for the next version of BuddyPress has a background and colour function that you may be able to use as a template to do something like you want. It’s open source so feel free to download from github and take whatever you want into your theme.
https://github.com/karmatosed/Status
A word of caution though that theme is in beta currently.

ModeratorSorry just to clarify you mean they can’t comment on blog posts or status updates? If that is the case what theme are you using and do you indeed see a comment button? Is it the submitting of the form that doesn’t work or do you not even see a button to comment?
If you are looking at using Disqus this thread is a good starting point: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/buddypress-disqus-integration/

ModeratorOh that’s no fun going straight to an error page. Could you let me know if you set the pages up linking to each other when you installed BuddyPress? If so can you do a ‘sanity check’ and take off all other plugins and clear your cache then try again. Something else may be interfering.
Should none of that work if you can either provide a link or respond back with a few more details like what theme you are using that would be great.
