@mercime
ParticipantRegistration is disabled by default in any WP/BP installation. You need to enable registration in your dashboard menu Settings > General panel and save.
If you’re using bp-default theme, you’ll see a register link appear in the right sidebar under the login form.

@mercime
ParticipantThis is what I need to help you make your theme compatible with BuddyPress as I posted above.
Open up your ray of light theme’s header.php file, copy all source, go to pastebin.com, paste copied source, click submit, and post the generated pastebin uri here. Do the same for your theme’s footer.php, sidebar.php, index.php and page.php files.
Only after checking out those files will I be able to make any determination and/or request from your theme developer.

Personally, I have no experience with PHP coding, But I have been working with Orange Themes, they developed my theme.
So could you write a response as to how they can convert there Ray of Light Theme to BuddyPress Theme?
I do believe that some instructions above do explain this, but could you please write this reply so I can forward this to them?
February 6, 2012 at 9:30 pm #129377In reply to: How do I insert the big avatar?
@mercime
ParticipantBuild a child theme of bp-default theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
Size of the avatar in comments is handled by bp-default theme’s `function bp_dtheme_blog_comments`
Create a new functions.php file for your child theme if you haven’t one yet and add the following to the file http://pastebin.com/cSQ1gGm8
Adjust avatar size (I made it 150px for original comment and 100px for replies to comment) then save and upload to your child theme folder. Change avatar sizes to preferred sizes. You would also need to adjust CSS of comments section accordingly.

ParticipantTo clarify:
– You installed WP and activated BuddyPress in physical subdomain buddypress of centennialchristianchurch.com
– You installed and activated BP Template Pack plugin and have gone through Appearance > BP Compatibility https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
– For Step 3 of the compatibility process, you need to use the 1st method (change 16 BP template files) OR the 2nd method (xxx-buddypress.php file) to make your theme compatible with BP. You haven’t changed anything in your theme files yet?Open up your ray of light theme’s header.php file, copy all source, go to pastebin.com, paste copied source, click submit, and post the generated pastebin uri here. Do the same for your theme’s footer.php, sidebar.php, index.php and page.php files.

@mercime
Participant@andreao @pedromoore @Larsjorgensen
– make sure you have enabled registration first in dashboard Settings > General panel, otherwise there won’t be a register page at all
– check dashboard BuddyPress > Pages and ensure that Register and Activate are associated with Pages already
– double-check wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration folder. It should contain register.php and activate.php files. If any are missing, reupload registration folder or re-install BuddyPress manually.

Participant– WP/BP versions?
– Single WP or WP multisite?
– What theme are you using?
– What plugins do you have installed?
– Have you tried basic troubleshooting like changing to bp-default theme and deactivating all plugins except BP to see if issue is corrected?February 6, 2012 at 5:53 pm #129368@mercime
ParticipantFirst thing. #2) If you’re changing the BP template pack files, then backup and remove the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php files we created from your quickstart theme folder in server.
It’s either the 1st method (changing BP template pack files which you did) OR the 2nd method (xxx-buddypress.php files), because mixing them for BP Compatibility is unnecessary and can cause issues if you mix up your HTML structure.
#1) If you delete the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php files then the changes to the stylesheet will be different assuming you got the markup correct.
Before taking final measures however, perhaps you’d copy source code of your full width page template from quickstart and post to pastebin.com. We could take a look at changing header- and sidebar-buddypress.php instead if feasible.

MemberI changed the site to the default theme and tried still the same issue. And, I created the various activity and registration pages and link it to BP’s admin area and still same issue.

ParticipantAgain – many thanks for your hard work! WordPress and BuddyPress are just awesome. I just need help with 2 things. I’m including a photo.
1. I’m not sure where to get the custom background code or if I should place it somewhere in the buddypress default theme or my style sheet.
2. I went into each page for group, activate, register, activity, etc, that buddy press made. Set the template to a full width template. This did not get rid of the sidebar when I’m in buddypress pages. I want to get rid of the sidebar all together.
Thank you!

ParticipantThere is probably not a lot we can help with now you have started on the restore of backups path, that is the ultimate solution to issues and outside the realm of a single plugin so to speak.
Hard to comment with absolute certainty what may have happened when you deleted BP – or did you just deactivate it? A white screen is suggestive of perhaps wp still trying to load the bp default theme, but speculation now is largely irrelevant.
Not sure why your hosts failed to restore your site from backups, or how your WP blog posts entries could have gone missing, only thing I can suggest is that you go back to your host and establish what level of site domain backups they keep, you may need to restore your site to a date preceding your activation of BP, also have you taken any DB backups yourself through something like the hosting account cPanel or Plesk control panel, simply restoring a DB dump/backup from a moment before BP should restore all your WP site and data.

Memberthanks, sorry! Will do.
February 6, 2012 at 7:03 am #129352@mercime
Participant@amberseree you should start a new topic instead of adding onto a topic re totally different theme

In any case, check out the style mods for Twenty Eleven given here https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-eleven-bp-1-5/3/

February 6, 2012 at 6:03 am #129350amberseree
MemberNot sure if this is the proper place to put this, been trying to navigate these forums for a while, and boy, I’m sure a newbie. But I have buddypress running with twentyeleven, ran the buddypress converter plugin as well, and created a child theme for twenty eleven. I’ve been making adjustments and so far everything is working alright except for the sidebar getting pushed down. I’ve tried to implement all kinds of options based on other answers I’ve read here and elsewhere, but so far nothing seems to work. Am I missing something obvious? Please help! For example it is happening on this page: http://inchelan.com/user-groups
Thank you so much.

MemberI was having the post button problem. The solution for me was that the css had the button height a 0. I put this in the custom css section of my theme. voila.

I tried deactivating all plugins and using standard Buddypress Theme. Nothing change: no screen notification for reply to activities. -
