ParticipantSorry I failed to specify. The new default theme for BuddyPress supports featured images, but I can’t get them working.

ParticipantThanks Ray, I’ve already started the modifications. Actually, I’ve switched to the default (new) Bp theme and none of the problems seem to occur; I suppose is just another day of editing the template’s file and after that it will all be fine again.
Again, the new-default theme is working fine.

KeymasterHi, last poster.
If you are using Site wide Forums (bbPress 2), then you’ll need to create a link yourself. If you theme supports custom menus, you will be able to use that and it should be easy.

KeymasterAlso: which theme are you using?

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIt depends on which theme you are using. If it supports custom backgrounds, set it in wp-admin > Appearance

KeymasterDo you have access to your server’s error log? If so, can you post the errors?
Do you have BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG defined?

Keymaster1) Copy over /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/settings/ to your theme’s directory
3) Copy over plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/forums/ to your theme’s directory
4) Your theme is using an older version of the bp-default JS. You’ll probably have to merge your changes with BP 1.5’s version – /bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.jsSeptember 22, 2011 at 6:22 am #120561takuya
ParticipantChild themes based on 1.2 won’t probably work well with bp-default from 1.5. I had to rewrite a few of my child themes after updating to 1.5.

KeymasterJesperA – update your custom language file:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/ (scroll down to “Updating your custom language file”).For the settings problem, try re-running the BP Template Pack wizard. This should copy over the directory “members/single/settings/” to your WP theme.
If the wizard doesn’t work, manually copy over /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/settings/ to your WP theme’s directory. See if that fixes your problem.
Let me know what happens.

ParticipantAnd even using the template pack there is so much theme inside the plugin you have to “hack” it.

MemberJosh, thanks for the link. It mentioned: “If you’re using any other conventional WordPress theme (TwentyEleven, BP-Default) and find the default template layout of bbPress acceptable, you don’t need to do anything at all – it should just work.”
So the message in Appearance isn’t an error just informational. I’ll just ignore it then.

Participant@ken_k “bbPress comes with a child theme of TwentyTen, titled (you guessed it) bbPress – TwentyTen. This theme includes all of the custom bits that bbPress needs to function, broken up into template parts to allow them to be used in several places, like template files, shortcodes, and widgets.” -jjj via https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-theme-compatibility

ParticipantStill hoping for a response. Before this reply was 13 replies which is bad luck lol. So is there some way i can remove the “leave a reply” and where would i find this in the bp-default theme?

MemberI’m not sure if this is the correct way to do it, but what I did was: disable the group forum component in BP settings; delete the forums page that BP installed (because I like to use /forums) but I found you can also use a different slug. If you go to WP Settings > Forums it has a bunch of bbPress settings.
One thing I cannot figure out so far is why I keep on getting the following error message in Appearance: “Your active theme does not include bbPress template files. Your forums are using the default styling included with bbPress.”
Otherwise it looks fine in the bp-default theme. Anyone know why that happens?
It also seems bbpress needs a bunch of plugins to make it work like nice sites I’ve come across.
I really like the site-wide forums though, was never really a fan of group forums. Thanks for the choice!

Member@karmatosed I asked Paul Gibbs this question. I’m hoping you could also help.
Problem: Buddy Press crashes my website (505 error on admin, 404 errors on pages).
History:
1. Installed Buddy Press. Activated it. During setting up stage, I was asked whether I would want to used Buddy Press template, integrate it to my existing theme, or do nothing (manually insert later). I chose to integrate. That’s when I was prompted to install the template pack.
2. I installed the template pack. Activated it. Then, my website crashes. My web pages get 404 messages. My admin gets 500 error.
3. I changed the template pack name as you suggested. It worked. I got back my admin. Sad to say, I still cannot get Buddy Press to work. I deactivated the template pack. Deleted it. Installed it again. Activated it. Then, when I activate the Buddy Press, my website crashes again.
4. So, I deactivated the template. Deleted it. I deleted the Buddy Press (apparently, I cannot deactivate it since it’s status is not activated, but I did activate it). Anyway, I went back to square one. I installed the Buddy Press. Activated it. Website crashes.
5. I did a clean-up, to be sure. I deleted again Buddy Press and Template Pack. I even went out to deleted entries in my database (following instructions in your page on deleting Buddy Press). I wanted to start from scratch. When I went through everything again, my website still crashes.
Basically, I’m already clueless as to what’s the problem. Any suggestions/tips are very much welcomed.

KeymasterWhy do you have BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG enabled? Do you really need it? (You only need it if you are going to be using a BP theme, with groups, members, etc, on more than one blog on the network.) If you comment that line out, I bet your wizard will start working.
That said, the fact that it doesn’t work for BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG could be a bug. I’ve opened a ticket so it can be checked out. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3600

Member@karmatosed I installed BuddyPress from the admin bar, i.e., I installed the plugin using the add new in the plugins (admin bar/plugins/add new). During the installation, where you’re given three options (use Buddy Press theme, integrate to your theme [requires CSS and PHP knowledge], and don’t do anything), I chose the integrate to your theme. Afterwards, I was prompted to install the Buddy Press template pack. I did. Afterwards, I clicked save and finish. Then, boom. I lost access to my website. I get 404 on every page, save the homepage. And, I get a 500 message when I try to access my admin.

KeymasterWe modified the BuddyBar to sit *above* the all the page content; previously, it overlapped the top of the image, obscuring it. You’ll have to make a child theme and tweak the CSS back if you prefer it old-style.
