Participant@katemgilbert – just noticed this. We built helloecoliving.com.
For that site, BuddyPress is installed on the main blog, not a sub-blog.
It just takes a little bit of work in your theme to create a separate tab / page for the community.
For an example on a later version of BuddyPress, take a look at the site we built for http://bitsythis.com – there a dedicated community page (with accompanying theme template) aggregates a lot of the community activity.
Cheers, Roger

Keymasterbp_before_members_loop is not a function, it is a WP action hook. Plugins and themes can use this hook to add functionality to your members page. Read the first limo provided by chouf1 to learn more, or google “WordPress hooks”.
Also, as megainfo suggests, it’s a good idea to learn a little about grep, which will help a lot in these instances.

David Carson
ParticipantYou’ll most likely want to create a replacement function for the function that adds the “My Account” section in the nav bar (see `bp_adminbar_account_menu()` in bp-core directory) and override it with your own custom function with the logout section removed using a `bp-custom.php` file.
This help page provides a good overview of what to do:

ParticipantWhat theme are you using? Clear cache. Use bp-default theme to test. If it’s still not working even if you’ve already made “pretty permalinks”, what’s in your .htaccess file?

ParticipantWhich theme are you using? Does it work (with attempt one) if you switch to no-default theme?
If not, did you cut and paste the line? You may have incorrect type of quotes. Try typing line from scratch in editor

ParticipantLooking at your website @hajakif it looks like you figured this out. Would you mind sharing your findings? We’re trying to set up CometChat on jmonkeyengine.org and we seem to be having similar set-up issues.

Also, it would be better if you posted code at http://pastebin.com/ , click submit and post the generated URL here.

KeymasterWhat versions of WordPress and BuddyPress are you using? Has the URL stayed the same?
Also, I suggest you revert to a standard WordPress theme (e.g. twentyten) and disable all plugins. Go to Settings > Permalinks and re-select/save your choice. Reactivate BuddyPress. Hopefully no errors, and that twentyten continues to work ok.
Then switch back to the theme that you were using, and check the BuddyPress functionality.

MemberThanks, I did set up a child theme. Although I still didn’t have any luck. I’ll keep playing with it, as I’d like to learn how it works. But I did finally find a theme I liked in the mean time.

Participant@astromono I finally found an instance of BP admin bar over the site title and network admin in backend just minutes ago:-) It was in the old bp-child theme I was revising which had adminbar.css from way back when.

@mercime
ParticipantYou can add “Blog” page in BP-compatible themes much like how you can do this in a regular WP site – http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/creating-a-blog-page-with-paging/
If that doesn’t work for you, contact BuddyBoss theme authors as they would know if there were any blocks to creating the “Blog” page per instructions above.
July 9, 2011 at 12:00 am #116033In reply to: User Pages Not Working
@mercime
ParticipantThere could be a number of reasons for the errant behavior.
– WP/BP versions?
– BP Template Pack veriion?
– Have you deactivated all plugins except BuddyPress and changed to bp-default theme? Clear cache. Does same bad behavior return or is it fixed?
– When you say, “I could not edit my user info” do you mean your profile page or one of your user’s info?July 8, 2011 at 11:53 pm #116032In reply to: Adding widget areas to default theme?
@mercime
ParticipantFirst, do not make revisions in bp-default theme. Revisions will be overwritten when BP is upgraded.
Instead,
– create a child theme of bp-default theme, e.g. mybpproject,
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
– create a functions.php file and put it in your child theme folder. Define new widget/s here (name, ID, etc)
– copy over the template file from bp-default theme to your child theme folder (following directory structure) then add the call to dynamic_sidebar in that template.July 8, 2011 at 11:53 pm #116031In reply to: Child theme / theme edited?

Participant== edited the theme a little (ie changed “Groups” to “Classes” etc). ==
Where did you make those edits? Check:
– in wp-config.php; then open up wp-config.php and delete the line which changes Groups to Classes
– in language file; go to your theme’s /language/ folder backup the poedit to computer hard drive then delete from server
– or in file/s you copied over to the bp-default child theme, then backup child theme in your computer hard drive and delete child theme from server

ParticipantDeactivating plugins and changing to default theme is basic troubleshooting procedure for both WP and BP and usually helps spot the offending culprit as you activate plugins/theme one by one. Did you also deactivate mu-plugins and/or bp-custom.php?
July 8, 2011 at 2:29 pm #115983rossagrant
Participant@boonebgorges I experienced this again last night where the second page of activity was repeated again and again.
It’s weird because if I reset safari or Chrome and get rid of all browsing hostory etc it works perfectly so I’m not sure if the browsers caching is at fault or if BP is at fault. It’s not my theme as it’s the same in BP Default when this error occurs.
Any ideas?

ParticipantIt might just be that your theme needs to be updated. Check theme’s forums for solutions/updates.

astromono
Participant@mercime It looks the same. I deactivated all plugins both on the network and in each individual site (I have 3 sites in my network). Made sure the default Buddypress theme was activated (only on one site) and Buddypress on network activate.
I believe you had told me to follow these steps before in the WordPress forums before, but it didn’t work that time either. What could be causing this issue?
July 7, 2011 at 11:50 pm #115959enderandrew
Memberlockamiz23, I’m noticing that some jquery functions aren’t working with my theme since upgrading, but they work with bp-default.
