For a free alternative, you can try Theme My Login:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-my-login/

This will make your login page:
    hxxp://example.com/login/

And also, I believe buddydev.com offers a plugin for this as well, but it’s a premium plugin.

@boonebgorges – Looks like the button hooks are missing in BP Template Pack:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.2.8/bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php#L339

This will fix the issue stevieg is experiencing.

The official Buddypress theme song is Dave Matthews’ “Crash into me.”

@jonobradley you would have to download the BP template files transferred to your active WP theme.
Then, manually super-impose the HTML structure of your theme’s onto said BP template files
After which, upload revised files to your theme folder in server

Morticia, unfortunately, the theme you’re using is a premium theme so we have no way to see the code unless we pay for it to help you. Check out this tutorial with how to impose HTML structure of your theme’s one-column page onto the BP template files transferred to your active WP theme’s folder. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/

The above old code is for multisite, while your install is not one per your first post.

== It keeps looking for them in the main domain. ==

I have one test site in physical subdomain and have no problems with avatars
    – WP/BP versions?
    – Are you using bp-default theme?
    – Installed WP in root of subdomain?
    – Installed WP via fantastico or simplescripts etc? Ditch that and start from scratch and do manual installation – FTP/cpanel upload, etc.
    – Is GD library installed in your server? What kind of server are you on?

    link to your site please.

on activation BP hceck for a BP theme and will show a yellow alert message in the Appearance menu. do you see it? All BP pages are on the front of the site, but you have to be using a compatible theme.

I think the user role that is set in the theme itself is cousing this issue.
you can see in this link below that you need an extended licence for use in WPMU
    http://themeforest.net/item/frailespatique/165967

if you have a extended licence then you should contact the author and ask there for help.
    Good Luck :)

I think you misunderstand what I mean by a hook manager. It wouldn’t be part of the core, it would be a simple admin interface with the default theme.

Here is a screen shot of something similar in the Canvas Theme by WooThemes:

    https://i.imgur.com/f4fIE.jpg

This way you could just simply paste whatever code/html you wanted inserted into the Hook without having to touch the functions.php. It would serve 2 purposes. First, it would make it much easier for those that get nervous editing php files and/or don’t like writing php code. Second, (and most importantly) you don’t have to remember and hunt down all your php edits when it comes time to update.

    Thanks for the reply.

When I go to the Themes menu, all I see are WP themes.

I do see the BP icon and drop-down under the Dashboard button, and have set things up (I think), but then…nothing. I don’t see any BP pages or anything.

Is there something else I need to do? The user dox for this application is very vague.

    == Then, I activated the BP plugin and…nothing ==

Nothing like a blank page or nothing like going to Appearance > Themes and the bp-default theme doesn’t show up, or ….?

If you’re on single WP install, there should be a BuddyPress logo/menu on upper left hand area of menu. If you’re on multisite, go to network and find BP menu on upper left hand area.

Hi All. I also faced the same problem. It drove me crazy for a while though. I analysed the problem as a layman and am not a techie guy basically.
I went through all the recently activated plugins to find the culprit which disappeared Reply TextBox. I came across disabling the plugin “Digg Digg” which is a social bookmarking plugin. Although it’s a great plugin to have, my current theme had a face-off with it. So I was forced to de-activate this plugin.
Well, the problem might be your theme or any recently activated plugin. Monitor your website consistently to find the error, and take appropriate actions right away to find the culprits and ditch them off.
The problem here was, something prevented Ajax controls to load which stopped loading/made TextBox disappear in a miracle. In my case, “Digg Digg” plugin loads its content with Ajax. So I guessed it must be the one which troubled me. Once I removed it, things rolled back to normal and settled!

@Scotty501 I just checked out fishbook theme in test install. The activity lists are not going bonkers like what’s happening in your site. I would backup your current fishbook theme (with your mods) to computer hard drive, then rename/delete fishbook theme folder, and re-upload fresh fishbook theme https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/fishbook-buddypress-buddypack

    as always thanks @mercime

I am beginning to regret using this theme – seems to have quite a few style issues with it – :(

    Any ideas on fixing it?

Emails are unrelated to the theme.

Likely, as we;ve covered many times previously – the emails are not being *recieved* which is a different issue. Please search, and if you still can;t find an answer post a new thread.

I agree with the OP – I tried your fix above – but I am still able to see and post activity in the groups.

just to re-trace my steps – I created in my theme (fishbook) groups/single/activity.php – and pasted the activity.php from /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/single/

I then copied wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/post-form.php to /wp-content/themes/fishbook-buddypress-buddypack/activity/ and renamed it post-form-groups and cleared the contents of that file. However, I still see the activity box etc.

This is very strange, never seen this before. I think it may be a problem with your theme

This is an email issue, nothing to do with Arras. Zy has fixed conflicts with buddypress and Arras in 1.5, however Arras is not a per say easy “compatible” theme to makeover with buddypress by itself. Unless your ambiguous like me, and do it anyway :)

The situation might have worked on the bp default theme for a number of reasons. The confirmation email delay of sending depends on the number of traffic on your site at the moment, sometimes with high traffic loads the email can take up to 45 minutes to arrive. ( yes, 45 minutes).

Also, the bp-default theme by itself doesn’t have much to load at all, like images, javascript, and other. Arras theme has lots of images to load, (like featured slideshow), and much of the widgets have images, and other things that can cram up the server, and cause a big delay on the email sending as well.

== In a perfect world, be able to embed BuddyPress stuff into this site, too. ==

Sure you can. As Andrea_r mentioned above, “Why not just have it all in one site?” That way, you won’t have to make changes in DB to have the same userbase for both WPMS installs. You can have BP in your main site, and just use BP Template Pack plugin and go through the BP compatibility process to make your WP theme compatible with BP in main site.

What php magic are you looking for exactly? Have you tried contacting Arras theme author re BP compatibility? I recall there were some js conflicts with Arras theme sometime back. Don’t know if this is still the case @gunju2221.

    Hello hardy4775, hello everyone:

Same situation, thank you, it worked on default theme but…

I switched back to the theme I want. Now after I signed up at least it gave the message that a verification e-mail was sent…but it wasn’t

The new registered user does show up in list of users, yet after login it just goes to the main page, as if nothing had happened.

What and where is the php magic that tells buddypress “send the e-mail” and register this new member?

Open up your theme’s style.css file and add something like this

    `#sidebar div.widget { margin-top: 20px; border-top: 1px dotted #AEE100; }`

#aee100 is the light green border used around your post. You could make it thicker with 2px or 3px or change the color to something else.

If I recall well, fishbook is a child theme of bp-default theme. What you do is
    1. create a new folder named `members` and
    2. within that members/ directory, create another folder named `single` then
    3. within the members/single/ directory, create another folder named `activity` then
    4. copy over the file permalink.php within activity/ folder so result when you upload everything to server, you’ll have
    5. wp-content/themes/fishbook-buddypress-buddypack/members/single/activity/permalink.php
This is what’s following the directory structure of bp-default to your own child theme folder

Before you upload, change the HTML structure of permalink.php to something similar like the page.php while keeping that page’s template tags on permalink.php
