I use it as substitute for default BP members widget. Mainly because without any code changes:

1. I can choose avatars size in px

2. Simple link avatars to blogs, their websites, member pages

3. There is possibility to chooce Sorting order (by posts number, registration date, login name, name display, user id…)

4. You can hide users by inserting their id

5. Choose to show users from selected blogs

6. Group by blogs

7. there are more features

I think it’s quite useful for those who don’t have much experience with loop and need simple customization widget.

Users love to see pictures of other users. However, many consider a picture upload as too cumbersome or don’t have a picture (lifes’s short and our users very young).

Therefore I’d like to implement a camera into the registration form (e.g. above avatar upload). Is maybe out there a snapshot-plugin for wordpress one could implement?

Further I don’t mean a video plugin, just snapshots.

@M Sorry, I don;t have this configured, but you’ve pretty much hit on the head what I’ve been trying to do since integrating P2 with Buddypress. The best example I can find of how it might work is by somehow modding the Commentwitter plugin for use in the P2 postform versus its intended use with the WordPress comment form.

This plugin enables an ajax input form to appear below the comment form where users can add their Twitter settings if they wish to cross-post. I’ve tried to mod this for the P2 post form unsuccessfully to date but it might offer some insight.

Looking forward to helping any way I can if only testing.

Hi there,

I’ve found Author Avatars List plugin. This wigdet has pretty flexible avatar display options. After some modifications Changeset 118704, maded by author bforchhammer, it now works with Buddypress. There is one bug with linking avatars to member profiles, but I believe it will be solved in near future. You can download it through SVN.

Hi!

I guess the following problem arises due to my laps in PHP knowledge.

I’m trying to extend the regular validation of registration data by an own function (WPMU2.7,BP1.0).

However already my skeleton, albeit empty,

function myown_xprofile_validate_signup_fields() {}

add_filter( ‘wpmu_validate_user_signup’, ‘myown_xprofile_validate_signup_fields’, 9, 1 );

causes these errors:

Using some cutting edge stuff (currently):

WordPress MU 2.7.1

bbPress version 1.0-rc-1

BuddyPress Support Plugin 1.0-RC1

When I navigate over to http://www.mysite.com/forums/bb-admin/plugins.php and try to enable the buddypress integration plugin (installed in my-plugins) I get a fatal Error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare for_buddypress_strip_tags() (previously declared in /home/demo/public_html/uberbrides.com/public/forums/bb-plugins/buddypress-enable.php:11) in /home/demo/public_html/uberbrides.com/public/forums/my-plugins/buddypress-enable.php on line 31

Any ideas or other places to download an older version?

I don’t know if some bridge exists, you should search on google

‘bbpress phpbb bridge’ or ‘wordpress phpbb bridge’

if exists you could share users with wp and create a new community without loosing the old one

Hey everyone. I run a PhpBB forum right now that has a decent amount of activity. But it’s an older install of phpBB 2 and I’m looking to update the site in general. It’s looking and feeling really old. The internet and the way people use it has sort of changed since my community first went up and I’m looking to do something new with it.

I don’t want it to just be a message board anymore. I’m looking to turn it into a small social network where members can stay more connected and even start their own blogs. So I’m looking at Buddypress as I use wordpress on several of my other personal sites.

But I’m curious, is there a way to take my members and phpBB message posts and bring them into a new buddypress installation? I kinda like the messageboard here and wouldn’t mind giving up the phpBB to switch to it. I just don’t want to lose all the old messageboard posts and make my members sign up all over again.

When looking at your sites in the demo section it seems buddypress allows linking of an existing wordpress blog into buddypress (or into a user profile). Going into the blog add section, I can only see an option to create a new blog as a subdomain. It would be a highly useful feature to connect existing blogs into buddypress, since most users already have theirs and each update could be part of the social nature of the site.

Any idea?

For the backend it’s simply a matter of adding another .mo file to the language folder in /wp-content to get wpmu to be multilingual, the same goes for any other plugins, they each have to have their own .mo file.

There is a great plugin available which makes translating plugins or even the the wpmu core itself easy, and allows you to do it a little at a time. CodeStyling Localization (I am not affiliated with them in the least, but it is more than great). It allows you to do localization for themes, plugins, mu-plugins, and wpmu base code itself, absolutely awesome.

For the front end and to allow different users of any of the blogs to change the backend easily and quickly I recommend qTranslate.

It is easy to use and easy to setup. Non-technical users will immediately know how to use this once it is setup. The setup may not be for non-technical users on their own, but a simple how-to will easily walk anyone through it. This plugin allows visitors to see multilingual content and change the language on the blog front-end (although I haven’t really used it for multilingual switching for the social networking portion of buddypress, I’ll have to play around and see what it can do).

Each blog can have it’s main language set in the the Settings/General page with the site wide default set in Site Admin/ Options (this is built in to wpmu, it doesn’t need a plugin – it’s been there from before 1.0 if my memory is correct).

I use English and Japanese (which will often not work when the localization is not done right) so I think these are pretty good plugins that work well with wpmu’s built in localization.

i know i’m a bit late on that topic but i do agree that it should almost be a core feature to be able to switch language file.

I’m not talking about having the content translation feature, but the front/back end stuff, basically anything showing on the localization file.

So a user can decide his default language (among the available ones) for the site.

It only makes sense: MU for WordPress MU, for BuddyPress/WordPress MU, for MUlti users, for MUlti blogs and for MUlti language.

I’ve done some research and could not find a black/white solution. it’s seems to be in the grey zone at the moment.

Has anybody been able to achieve this yet?

I am starting a new group blog and am wondering if you can use BP without using wordpress MU. I do not need the capacity to allow people to have blogs, just a social network. Also has there been any progress on facebook integration? thanks so much,
