I had no luck with any code here. I used Theme My Login plugin and it worked like a charm. The custom page is displayed even on error.

Well i think you have some competition already but there’s certainly nothing wrong with a new outfit trying to help promote what can be done with wordpress/buddypress so i think you would be welcomed in that endeavor. Not sure i have a good answer for that last one maybe sites like yours? If your site becomes popular and effective enough perhaps even more mainstream sites? i hear there is a new wordpress focused media outfit at torquemag.io maybe they have some interest?

Are you using the default theme provided by WordPress? Have you installed bbpress?
To go to BuddyPress settings, go to

Hello,

I am using the latest version of Sahifa theme ( v3.3.0 ) and the author says that the theme is not compatible with BuddyPress.

But I really like buddypress and would love to see it implemented on my website. Is it possible that I can still use buddypress with a different buddypress theme? Yes, I would love to use buddypress like that! I have 1000+ users registered and I want buddypress for my website…

Should I create another wordpress directory? Can I use two themes, like the Sahifa for home and http://domain.com/community for buddypress with a custom BP theme?

I don’t really know PHP and I’m new to these, any help would be appreciated!

I have a custom bbp theme. Prior to 1.7 I was running theme compatibility plugin. After upgrade (a long while ago actually) my theme still works, as I had placed already buddypress own files and directories inside my theme.

What does not work anymore since 1.7 is ajax and javascript.

I did declare
add_theme_support( 'buddypress' );
in my theme. I have WordPress 3.5.2

I also load and enqueue the latest buddypress.js correctly. It’s loaded in my theme footer. I tried to disable other plugins, but doesn’t look like the issue. I do have bbPress as well, but not js related loaded.

From Chrome dev tools, I could see that ajax requests are being fired on events such as typeahead inputs, or sending a reply to a private message or filtering members in the member directory page, and so on. But there’s no result (no ajax query or response), so none of these action will produce a content change. From the console, I did not see anything while triggering events.

I did not touch classes and ids added by original theme files. Is there anything that I should double check in this regard? I do use Twitter Bootstrap for my theme and to make my theme responsive I had to alter markup of the wrappers. But I’ve read that now BuddyPress doesn’t rely anymore on markup for javascript use. Or am I missing something here?

Can you help me figuring out what’s wrong?

Good morning guys, this is a bit of a weird question, but here goes…

I ran a large website with 2 million members but 9 months ago we were rather brutally hacked. The hacker deleted and wiped all our servers, including a dedicated backup server with thousands of TB of data.

Our community drove us to start over and we chose WordPress, Buddypress and BBPress as our platform. We’re really pushing Buddypress and its capabilities and already have a really awesome system that we’re extending daily.

Obviously most of the old links that powered our website are now linking to 404’s etc. So we need to begin to think about how we can build new links and one of the ways I thought might make sense, is to become a “goto” website for webmasters to see what is possible with Buddypress. Because it’s actually a great platform that I believe often gets overlooked and that’s partly because there aren’t many really good examples of Buddypress websites.

But what kind of websites would even talk about BP and our new website?

Any pointers would be great.

Hi,
At the heart of BuddyPress it’s simply a plugin that has a range of components making community features capable on a WordPress site. However, it’s much more than that. Think of it as a toolkit, you can bring in whatever works for the site you are going to create. However, like a toolkit you would rarely use everything on every project. You may use activity streams, maybe profiles on a site – not every site is the same.

The start of every BuddyPress site really comes the thinking about what your community will need. Then you pick the components that fit the community.

First, allow me to apologize to all for the apparent increase in my cranial density. It used to be much easy for new concepts to permeate the bone and seep into my gray matter.

I am trying to understand the Buddypress concept. After reviewing the example sites on bpinsire.com, I am having a difficulty in ascertaining where WordPress ends and where Buddypress begins, so to speak.

If anyone is aware of a good thorough explanation of what Buddypress brings to the table, I would very much appreciate some guidance.

I think I will blame my denseness on being an old-fart, left-brained engineer, yeah, that sounds good.

Hi there,
I´ve installed the actual version of buddypress and wordpress on MAMP to my local mac.

Now, I get a 404-Error:

…/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/images/mystery-man.jpg Not Found
The required jpgs are available.

Any ideas?

Has anyone experienced any installation issues w/ buddypress using yahoo’s web hosting service? Installing buddypress has been uneventful. I have not been able to get the registration page going. Figured I would try it on my godaddy server instead, everything worked fine, smh.
I installed all the latest issues of wordpress and buddypress, 3.5.2 and 1.8. anyone can register is enabled, permalinks are set, register and activate pages are set and I logged out before clicking create an account, I might of missed a few but ultimately my registration page is still blank. If anyone has any suggestion I’d greatly appreciate it =)

Not a plugin but a tutorial. You may need to make adjustments depending on your theme but it is pretty straightforward if you know what parts need to be modified. I advise to only use this on a child theme as does the tutorial.

@lwist That is true. Read the link about that specific WP install “in its own directory” https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory, it involves moving htaccess file and index.php from the subdirectory where WP is installed to domain root, among others. That scenario is totally different from installing WP in subdirectory e.g. example.com/buddypress and keeping every WP file in that subdirectory. There’s no conflict at all.

formatting on that section of the page is kind of messed up

Looks fine to me in FF. What browser are you using?

Hi @boydspace Nope I tried looking at files for the plugin @megainfo recommended but unfortunately I didn’t understand any of the code. I’m totally winging it when it comes to PHP.

I’m now trying to tackle it from another angle; the members directory doesn’t list any members without activity (e.g. have never logged in). So my new angle of attack is to remove the meta data holding when they last logged in if their current WordPress role is “bbp_blocked”.

I’ve created a new function called “clr_activity()” which I call in members-loop.php as such:

The contents of the function which is held in my theme’s functions.php are:

Before I even try to implement this I hope someone with greater PHP knowledge can check I’m using bp_update_user_meta correctly; for one thing I’m not sure the empty quotes will give me the desired value in the user’s last_activity meta field. I want it to be clear as if the user has never logged in.

Doing that just returns me to the same page that I linked above.

I’m beginning to think that this is a bigger issue than buddypress – maybe the wordpress installation is configured incorrecty. This is a server that’s been around for a few years, so I’m going to install a virtual computer and run a fresh WP install from there. Maybe that’ll do it.

When I create a new blog post (wp-post) in the wordpress admin area and publish it, the post does not show up in the buddypress avtivity stream. Is there a setting i need to change or is this default? I have a plugin called event manager which creates custom posts, and they show up in the activity stream, therefore I think it is odd that the original posts doesnt show.

Also, is there a way to include wp-post comments in the activity stream?

The BuddyPress Before Installing documentation says “BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory.” But the BuddyPress Installations section shows an example of WordPress installed in a subdirectory folder and where BuddyPress would be activated. Is that an example to stay away from? Or is it ok now? Also, the formatting on that section of the page is kind of messed up (main content overlaying the sidebar text).

I use latest versions of WordPress, BuddyPress and WP-FB-Autoconnect plugin. It works fine. User can register and login with their Facebook credentials. My problem is the auto-generated Buddypress register page. Basically I have two different user-stories. At this moment I haven’t decide for which one to go.

1. Allow registering only with Facebook credentials.
2. Allow both and give a choice on the register page – Facebook or form.

My question is how I can modify the register page. I guess I need to create a bp-custom.php and ad a filter. WP-FB-Autoconnect has a function jfb_output_facebook_btn() which can be used.
