KeymasterYou’re right. There is a lot constantly going on, and it’s dizzying to keep up with it all. We try really hard on our end to balance updates with backwards compatibility, to make sure things run as smoothly as possible while also fixing bugs and problems.
Some of what you’re talking about is that, where fixing bugs leads to other bugs. Some of it comes from us doing something incorrectly for a very long time, setting a bad example, and when WordPress calls us out and deprecates something, it breaks things down the line later.
I think the bigger take-away is that running your own social network isn’t as easy as it should be. We can do a better job at making it simpler, and also at setting the expectation that there’s a huge leap from having 1 blog to having hundreds or thousands of users. Social networks like Flickr or Twitter have dedicated staff to keep things running smoothly, and trying to do that as one non-developer is currently pretty intimidating, and maybe not always a good idea.
I don’t think it’s a funding issue, I think it’s an education issue down the tree from WordPress core to BuddyPress core to third party plugin authors. Also, we try really hard to do tandem releases with WordPress core, but not all plugin authors have the ability to stay on top of their projects like we do.
The BuddyPress core team is making changes for the better to improve the experience you’re talking about, but they are still baby steps so we don’t perpetuate the issue further.

ParticipantThe buddypress admin menu is translated as are the main tabs, ‘Componentes’ page content is translated but ‘Configurações’ page content is still in english.
The parts that aren’t buddypress aren’t translated for me, as I don’t have the main wordpress and theme or plugin language files installed

KeymasterThe buddypress.org theme was created by John.
It will probably not be publicly released, though if you have experience designing and developing WordPress themes, it shouldn’t be that hard to replicate the look and feel.

There are snippets of code circulating on this forum which can lock down buddypress in a similar way.

Are you sure the plugin is compatible with bp 1.5.

ParticipantIt asks me to log in (or register) – Back to hiresphere takes me to your front page but anywhere else goes back to wordpress login….
If I type /activate at the end of the domain, which on my site gives me the activation page, on your site, it redirects back to wordpress login – hence my question about ‘privacy’ plugins or code. That could be overridding it?

ParticipantAt the Admin Dashboard select Settings then the Permalinks subsection….
Buddypress does not work properly with the ‘Default’ so select something different.
Save Changes.
If wordpress can’t write to the .htaccess file, it should tell you what you need to manually copy and paste.
The main .htaccess file is normally in the top level of the directory where the wp-config.php file should also be…. In some file systems it may be hidden…
mod_rewrite must be enabled on your server for pretty permalinks to work.

KeymasterWordPress 3.2 uses a newer version of jQuery that conflicts with the JS in BuddyPress 1.2.x.
Alter your /bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js to reflect the following:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&new=4450%40trunk%2Fbp-themes%2Fbp-default%2F_inc%2Fglobal.js&old=4349%40trunk%2Fbp-themes%2Fbp-default%2F_inc%2Fglobal.jsJanuary 3, 2012 at 5:59 pm #127303In reply to: HEY! Where did the BP-Media support forum go??
John James Jacoby
KeymasterAt the end of the day, this is a support site for BuddyPress. Us opening up groups for third-party plugin support was an experiment of its own, and a successful one I think. We put your plugin and support information in one convenient Group as opposed to mixing all of them together with tags like WordPress.org does.
That said, there is nothing anyone can ever do here that will give it more emphasis than BuddyPress itself. I actually think its great if you outgrow your space here, as it means you’re doing well and being successful, fostering an essential part of the BuddyPress ecosystem.
I like the idea of eventually having a popular plugin page. If that happens, clearly BP Media stands out. I think the best way to keep things running smoothly currently is to focus on BuddyPress core development and support, and iterate on the third-party plugin experience for what it is.
January 3, 2012 at 12:01 am #127249In reply to: Change the height of the header of the default theme
@mercime
ParticipantIt’s documented in functions code.
– Build a child theme of bp-default theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
– To change header height/width, create a functions.php in child theme folder and apply filters per https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.2/bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php#L91
– To change `#header h1`, in same child theme’s functions.php you’ll override parent theme’s function (lines 213 to 270) at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.2/bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php with:
`function bp_dtheme_admin_header_style() {
?>// add/revise styles you see in file
<?php
}`January 2, 2012 at 7:13 pm #127232In reply to: Intrepidity Theme & Buddy Press Compatibility
@mercime
ParticipantBefore going through the theme compability process, you have to go through the proper installation of BuddyPress through the wizard first, hence no BP Compatibility link in Appearance dashboard menu.
Before going through the BP installation wizard, make backups of your database and server files first. If you’re using the same server where BP ‘crashed’ the site, then there’s a possibility it could crash again, or it might not crash since there have been major code improvements already.
Please do your backups now.

MemberThanks tislam!
That particular plugin didn’t quite get it but through that lead I was able to come up with: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-options/
It’s quite a bit more advanced (I like) and got the job done (I REALLY like)… plus I was able to tweak a few other settings that had been bothering me but a little less of a priority (BIG LIKES).
Call this one resolved!
