    Hello BP community. The reason for this post is to get a very specific reaction. BP needs a photo solution if you really want your communities to grow. And although there are a couple of plugins out there, they really seem to be struggling with open source objectives. And this comes down to whether a community should include interaction as a plugin or in the core.

    Solutions:
    Wordpress already has a great photo solution, we just need to integrate the two. We should avoid rebuilding the wheel.

    This is not directed toward core devs (please refrain from this post as we know you’re busy), this is directed toward the users of the product.

    And this is the extent of this topic, whatever the community decides should end this subject.

    Do you believe BP needs a core solution toward pics or do you think it should be up to the user to find a plugin (core VS plugin)?

    A simple answer with a short reason will really help the BP community.

    Thank you.

    My vote is CORE!

    Reason: Its an integral part of communications to have photos. There is no community without expression. Until BP addresses photo expression it’s just a weak source of BBpress.

    Hello,

    I am new to BuddyPress working on an off-line site that is soon to go live. I am on the latest version of WordPress (3.5.1) and BuddyPress (1.6.4) however I am having one huge issue. When members (only members, not guests or administrators) try to visit a forum topic they get a 404 Error instead of the topic! I read that this is a known issue and will be fixed in the next BP Version, however my site is to go live this week and I am not sure how long that version will take. Can someone please tell me a quick way to fix this? What files in trunk do I need to pull from to fix the issue? I tried to get an answer a few days ago in THIS topic but realized that it was marked as Resolved so most people will ignore it. Hopefully someone can help! So far, I am loving BuddyPress and I’m sure my visitors will love it as well. Would be great if they could actually access the forums. 🙂

    – Thank you!

    Hello Evo252,

    You should try this trick https://gist.github.com/imath/5083281

    The trick will first add (as soon as you go in your WordPress Backend) a user_meta “evo_user_uploaded_avatar” to all the users that have uploaded an avatar thanks to the init function init_evo_meta() (don’t forget to delete lines 50 to 73 once ran) .

    Then from now on functions evo_user_uploaded_avatar and evo_user_deleted_avatar will manage your users avatar uploads.

    !Important:

    I suggest you to first test it on a local dev environment, I also suggest that before uncommenting lines 67 and 68 you make a db back up.

    Finally Once you ran the init_evo_meta() function, i suggest that you delete lines 50 to 73

    I have unsuccessfully been playing around with BuddyPress alignment to match my WP theme for the last couple of days. I consider myself a moderate user of PHP and CSS but this one is driving me nuts. I need help!
    The page in question is http://www.ppua.net/member-directory/. As one can see, the page doesn’t fit the rest of the other pages. I followed the instructions found at http://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/ and many other ones, but to no avail.

    Here’s what my theme page.php resembles:

    <div class="container_24 clearfix separator “>
    <div id="content" class="grid_15 “>

    <div id="post-” >

    <?php if(has_post_thumbnail()) {
    echo '‘;
    echo ”; the_post_thumbnail(); echo ”;
    echo ‘
    ‘;
    }
    ?>

    <?php wp_link_pages('before=&after=’); ?>

    and BuddyPress /activity/index.php:

    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'All Members %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_member_count() ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Friends %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_friend_count( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Groups %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_group_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Favorites %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_favorite_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””> <?php printf( __( '%s new’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_mention_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>

    • <a href="” title=””>

    I know this may be as easy as moving one line code or as difficult as changing the whole structure of the site. Please help!!!! I will be forever grateful.

    @mercime Thank you for your response. I have already tried to re-upload BuddyPress once before, but I will do so again for good measure. My worry is that every time I face a problem with this plugin, the first recommendation is to re-install it manually. This is not going to be very helpful when I actually start using it and have a lot of content associated with it.

    @afjsystem & @mercime For reference, and because I may not be doing something correctly, this is how I have fully and manually uninstalled the plugin:
    1. I deactivated the BuddyPress Default theme
    2. I deactivated the BuddyPress Plugin
    3. I deleted the BuddyPress Plugin (again, the only plugin I had installed)
    4. Using mySQL (through Terminal), I deleted all tables associated with BuddyPress within my WordPress database on my server

    Please let me know if I am doing something incorrectly.

    I will let you know what happens when I reinstall in a bit, but I have to run to a meeting at the moment.

    anybody got any code for WP 3.51 and BP 1.6?

    When I add this to bp-custom.php the links go away but I can’t log out or in without getting these errors.

    I’ve also tried 50, 2 as suggested too.

    The errors are:

    I am using buddypress 1.7beta(trunk6829) and a custom theme that is not created for buddypress. It works for the most part except an issue with ajax links.

    I am not sure if it is a buddypress issue or an issue with a particular plugin I am using. I am using the group tags plugin here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/ . When one of the tags is clicked it is suppose to show all groups with that tag using ajax. Instead it goes to a page not found. If I enable the template pack plugin and move files into the theme it does work but also messes up a bunch of formatting in the theme. If I use the default buddypress theme it does work. That is why I am not sure where the issue is. Any ideas?

    Hello WordPress Support!

    Brand new to WP here. I am a private writing tutor and want to create a website where my students can have their own blog and receive my feedback on their blog posts.

    There will be a set number of pre-registered users (students). Each user will have their own blog and profile. As the admin, I will be able to comment on each user’s blog post, and most importantly edit their profile. I will not have a blog myself.

    But here’s the tricky part: Each user’s blog will be hidden to other users in the community (i.e. users cannot communicate with, see each other, or even know other users exist). Only the admin will have the privilege of viewing profiles or commenting on users’ blog posts.

    Any suggestions on how to do this on BP?

    Thanks!

    @bphelp go to your first post and click on EDIT link which shows up when you hover over the box. Add [Resolved] before the title of your post and you’re good to go. For your own site, you can install this cool plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddy-bbpress-support-topic/ to select Resolved in dropdown 🙂

    @espellcaste You’re welcome. Good luck 🙂

    Marking this issue as resolved.

    Please start a new topic about adding a menu and be more specific re Add a menu to the profile page (subnav). For/about what? Or do you mean you want to add a menu link to the user’s profile page?

    Wordpress 3.5.1
    Buddypress Version 1.7-beta1
    bbPress Version 2.2.4
    site http://bp.youpix.org

    Clean install of WP, BP, bbPress
    Using default BP Theme
    No group forums.
    Permalinks resaved after install
    Created a forum “Coverage Questions”

    Issue – Forums don’t show up via the Forums link in the BuddyPress Admin bar
    So, this style of URL has no method to create new topics
    http://bp.youpix.org/members/MEMBERNANE/forums/

    This link (which can be accessed from with in WP / Forum dashboard menu seems fine.
    http://bp.youpix.org/forums/forum/coverage-questions/

    I’ve tried getting Forums to work correctly on 3 different installs but not joy. Why can’t users create topics and see existing forums from the forums menu link on the admin bar?

    I’ve followed the video here
    http://labzip.com/the-definitive-guide-to-buddypress-bbpress-configuration/

    I’ve scoured this board. There’s no other plugins installed to cause conflict. It’s driving me crazy!

    Hi,

    I have found what you mean. The issue is repaired, but I would like to add a menu to the buddypress profile of all users. How would I do that?

    I have tried my “www.lbsblogs.com/blogs/create” but it gives me and invalid page. It is only letting me create a blog on the registration page which I want to do it within a user account when they are logged in.

    >> text above the status update box that says something like “What’s New?” so members know to click in there.

    >> I would like to know how to get that back?

    @39images @bphelp for that specific item

    1. create a new folder named buddypress in your active WP theme

    2. within that buddypress folder you created, create a folder named activity

    3. download https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/post-form.php and place it in your new activity folder like so:
    wp-content/themes/NAME-OF-YOUR-WP-THEME/buddypress/activity/post-form.php

    4. Open up post-form.php. On line 21 https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/activity/post-form.php#L21 insert http://pastebin.com/z8e7xyRZ

    5. Add the following to your theme’s stylesheet:
    #whats-new-form p {
    margin-left: 70px;
    }

    @webifiedgeek change to BP Default theme, you’d find the link to create a blog in the Blogs Directory page, right beside the title, Blogs. Or, create a link in your custom menu to create a blog. Assuming you kept the slug blogs in Settings > BuddyPress > Pages, the link would be http://example.com/blogs/create as simple as that.
