    thanks for the reply!
    but that isn’t exactly what I need.. I want to show the blog post and below it the information on the group with the same name
    ideally I would like to use the buddypress template tags on the main wordpress template files and get the information for a specific group
    like

    What do you want to be in the links page?

    Use the buddypress links plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-links/ it adds that tab to groups

    #110629

    This will be a non-issue when the bbPress plugin eventually replaces the stand-alone version currently included in BuddyPress. Until then, the next version of BuddyPress will continue to work the same as before in this regard. Props @djpaul for being on the case. :)

    It’s not to do with a global. It’s to do with calling the parent class’ WPDB(), and the fact that WP 3.2 is only supporting PHP 5+, the deprecated PHP4-style class constructors have been removed.

    BuddyPress has recently patched these in trunk

    I haven’t played with 3.2 but in looking at the line 144 – and reading the code notes – the parent::WPDB is the issue..

    ` function BPDB( $dbuser, $dbpassword, $dbname, $dbhost ) {
    parent::WPDB( $dbuser, $dbpassword, $dbname, $dbhost );

    $args = func_get_args();
    $args = call_user_func_array( array( &$this, ‘_init’ ), $args );

    if ( $args )
    $this->db_servers = $args;
    }`

    Have you tried to globalize that function?

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wpdb_Class

    In other words, add `global $wpdb;`

    Oh. It doesn’t pull posts at all. It uses a custom post type that has to be manually populated. However, you could pretty easily combine this with FeedWordPress, which can pull from any RSS feed (including tag/category feeds elsewhere on your WP network), and save them to the relevant custom post type on the main blog.

    Did you try the default theme? It’s possible that this is theme related. It could also be being caused by some other plugin you’re running.

    == when I make a text widget of any type they only seem to show on the main page. ==

    That is strange, I see no evidence of a text widget in the home page nor in the inside pages, did you already delete the text widget?

    Troubleshooting –
    1. Deactivate ALL plugins except BuddyPress. Now add text widget – not Adsense, just a regular one – and I believe the regular text widgets will show up in all pages. It might just be that your Adsense plugin is not working as expected or has got a conflict with other plugins installed in your site.
    2. Deactivate ALL plugins except the Google Adsense plugin and change theme to default twentyten theme. Add the adsense widget. If the Ads don’t show up, then you have to resolve this issue at the WordPress.org forums https://wordpress.org/support/forum/plugins-and-hacks and reference whichever Google Adsense plugin you are using

    Added a version which is stable and all errors sorted out. Only thing left to do; is work on the styling of the main nav bar as anything other that of ‘home’ selected doesn’t reflect the selected colour..

    The guy reviewing my theme has pointed out that there should be a option to disable/enable the admin bar. Iv’e documented this in the readme.txt so Im not going to bother with it and he also pointed out that having a crap load of menus will kinda break the theme – if you want to use that many menus, good luck! link to the menu

    I specifically included the custom menu/drop down menus as to reduce ‘cluttered menus’.

    I’ll clarify when I say “upgrade BuddyPress”, I mean update the files and reactivate the plugin, then visit the plugins page in wp-admin. Then before the next step, deactivate BuddyPress. You won’t need to toggle between the BP Default theme during this.

    Backup everything — entire web root folders and the SQL database. Check the backups work. It never hurts to keep a backup of the backup somewhere, perhaps on another computer. The idea being is that if you have to delete everything and start out from scratch, you know you’ll be able to get back to where you are now.

    You will have to re-build your theme, as the BuddyPress theme structure changed since the version you are using. You’ll probably be able to keep your WordPress theme, but you’ll essentially have to build a new BuddyPress theme, or be happy with using the (new) default BuddyPress theme. You can check out the default theme on http://testbp.org/.
    I would suggest you get your theme sorted out before you upgrade.

    It’d be massively easier starting from scratch with a new BuddyPress installation, but I’m assuming you can’t do that. The upgrade process from this old versions will be complex. Definitely do it in steps, don’t jump to the latest version.

    0) Disable BuddyPress and all other plugins. Revert to standard WP theme. Get WPMU upgraded to 2.9.2.
    1) Get BuddyPress updated to 1.1.3.
    2) Get new theme ready (or use BP-Default) and then upgrade to BuddyPress 1.2.4
    3) Upgrade WPMU to WP 3.1.1 (latest version)
    4) Upgrade BP to 1.2.8 (latest version)

    You’ll need to test this upgrade process / order of events before you have a go on your live site. Set up a local test site, or on a test server, and try this there. I haven’t done any upgrades like this (keeping the data from an old version), but good luck

    Yes. Any WordPress plugins that extends the user authentication should work just fine with BuddyPress :)

    == thumbnails of next and previous images ==

    @famous next and previous thumbnail images are shown by template tags –
    and

    One quick solution for an image.php file:
    – copy bp-default theme’s index.php and save to your child theme folder
    – open up index.php and replace the following lines:

    Replace

    <div class="entry">

    </div>

    With

    <div class="entry">
    ID, 'large' ); ?>

    </div>

    Replace

    <div class="navigation">
    <div class="alignleft"></div>
    <div class="alignright"></div>
    </div>

    With

    <div class="navigation">
    <div class="alignleft"></div>
    <div class="alignright"></div>
    </div>

    Replace
    <h2 class="posttitle"><a href=&quot;" rel="bookmark" title=" "></a></h2>
    With
    <h2 class="posttitle"><a href=&quot;post_parent); ?>" rel="attachment">post_parent); ?> </a></h2>

    You can also check out twentyten’s loop-attachment.php to see how image attachments are rendered along with other forms of attachment https://core.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/3.1.1/wp-content/themes/twentyten/loop-attachment.php

    I am having the same problem, but are you sure this isn’t a bug in the plugin? It shouldn’t need 33MB of RAM just to activate the plugin. I got the same error trying to activate Buddypress 1.2.8 on a fresh install of WordPress 3.1.1 on a high-quality host. There are a huge number of warnings that come before the memory error. Here’s the full output with debug on (I cut out another ~50 warnings on call-time pass-by-reference).

    Try asking your host to increase your wordpress memory limit, or do a search on that subject as there are some ways to do it yourself…

    If neither of those work, and for some shared server hosts such as 1and1 they won’t, then have a look at the suggestions here and here.

    Or find a host that offers more memory – which is difficult as all other shared hosting services, that I’ve found, don’t quote the memory available in their advertising….

    Anyone figure out a way to “activate” all wordpress users so they show up on Buddypress right away?

    This is definitely a WordPress support thread, but I’ll answer it this time ;)

    The author pages uses one of these templates in this order:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates#Which_Template_File_is_Used.3F

    You should be able to just use the `if ( have_posts() )` conditional in the author template and if a user has no posts, put the content you want to show in the `else` part of the conditional.

    You should also add some type of nonce verification:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_create_nonce

    Reason is in your function anyone can send a Bzzt even if you’re not logged in if they know the correct URL schema.
