I haven’t tested this myself, but the bp-default theme in BP 1.2 does not add theme support for post-thumbnails.
This would have to added to your child theme’s functions.php:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_theme_support#Post_Thumbnails
Also read the note here:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_the_post_thumbnail#Notes
Give that a shot and report back.
Did you change the timezone to the correct setting?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_SubPanel
Some have experienced remedying the problem by selecting the UTC offset instead of the country / city.
You might also need to set the server’s timezone correctly. Contact your network admin for help on this.
I’ve reinstalled WP twice (which is working just fine) and also BP twice, but I can’t get to where the BuddyPress activity, blogs, forums, friends, groups, etc. will show pages with content. All I get is the following in the error log:
[Sat Mar 05 03:19:18 2011] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.x] File does not exist: /data01/home/username/production/wordpress/members, referer: http://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx/
where /data01/home/username/production/wordpress is the document root for Apache.
Now, I followed the installation directions (http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/) exactly, including changing the permalink structure, but for some reason buddypress is looking in the wordpress directory for /members. I thought all of that was supposed to be under /wordpress/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members. But maybe I’m wrong?
That plugin is only compatible up to wordpress 3.05.
There are bunch of ways to make this happen but here is what I use.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-registration-options/
Oddly enough imo the plugin authors don’t really showcase the privacy feautre which I think is one of the plugins best quallities.
Here a creen shot of the privacy settings page is it appers on my install.

very bassic but it really does the trick if you are trying to limit access to member profile pages.
Hope this helps!
I’m using the most current versions of WordPress and Buddypress. I’m new to this whole website making deal and I’m enjoying it so far.
I want my buddypress members to be able to post blogs but when i click on the link that says blogs, it just sends me to a blank page.
Help?
speechfriend.com
I’m running wordpress 3.0.5 and buddypress 1.2.7. I would like to nofollow all buddypress links. My concern is that users are linking back to their own blogs and I don’t want to allow follow links from my site.
How can this be accomplished?
If needed, my blog is at http://www.naturalhaircommunity.com.
I’m looking for the same, I have a table or a list with firstname, lastname and email. Now I want to import this list to WordPress/BuddyPress and WP/BP sends every one of these new users a welcome email with their random generated password… Is that possible? I have tried a couple user import plugin… but none of them worked really well.
@StevieG adding footer.php from bp-default to your child theme shouldn’t mess with your install.
So going back to “If I try to access the files in my child theme I get the error message ‘Sorry, that file cannot be edited’.” is this in relation to editing the child theme files via Network Admin > Appearance > Editor panel? If not, what files are you trying to edit and where?
EDIT- just found out you posted same topic in WP Forums and the problem as posted there was clearer
Hello,
I am leaving this here in case anybody else is at wits end with this problem. I installed the following plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/
It is a capcha for subscriber sign up. Our buddypress has not been released yet, and we were getting upwards of a dozen spam sign ups a day. I installed this plugin a week ago. So far, no spam signups. I hope this helps.
I have been fighting this issue for awhile. Last week, I found this plug in:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/
I’ve gone from dozens of spam subscribers a day to nothing over the last week. I hope this helps.
Looks like you’re still running an older version of WordPress; try upgrading WordPress to the latest version, then you’ll need to do the same thing with BuddyPress.
Read the following articles for help:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/upgrading-buddypress/
I suppose it’s not a popular thing to ask for real help for free. But, I run a site for a non-profit (that’s truly non-profit) and I’m having huge problems since trying to update WordPress and Buddypress. The site isn’t even loading anymore. I’ve tried reinstalling all plug-ins from scratch, and that isn’t working either. If someone is willing to help, please….?
Here’s the URL, but, like I said, all I’m getting is internal server errors. If you contact me, I can give you access via FTP or any other way you prefer.

Nope. Still doesn;t work. I made the php code work but looks like even though the code works now the page still doesn’t seem to recognize me as being logged in.
I think I see the problem. Looks like the new wordpress is commenting out the php codes, even though I have php-exec. Hmmm….
Just to clarify, I have echoed the following on the front page:
bp_adminbar_notifications_menu
bp_loggedin_user_avatar
bp_loggedinuser_link
bp_loggedin_user_domain
… And nothing is showing up, when it used to.
Hi,
I really hope you can help me. When I log into WordPress, it appears that I’m not logged in on the front page. However, the sidebar is fine (it shows me as logged in), and the BP pages show that I’m logged in as well. I cleared my cookies and cache, and even tried deactivating/reactivating BP. Nothing is working. It seems as if BP and WP are no longer synching.
This started to happen after upgrading to 3.1 and BP 1.2.8.
Can someone help?
This could be an approach: http://cleverness.org/2010/08/08/add-user-types-to-wordpress-and-buddypress/ (works with 3.1 multisite). It does not add pages but gives you the possibility to show profile-field-groups depending on the chosen user-role.
OK, so like everyone else through forum after forum I also had the problem of new users not getting a confirmation email. My problem was Bluehost. WordPress apparently sends those emails from an email address called “wordpress@yourdomain.com”. Bluehost has a problem with this as might other hosts. The solution is a plug-in https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mail-from/ install it and allow it to make your email “noreply@yourdomain.com”. It worked and was easy.

I’m getting some odd behaviour with the External Group Blogs (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/external-group-blogs/) plugin.
When I add a feed, that feed’s earliest post appears in the group with a datestamp of over 40 years ago. No subsequent posts are pulled into the group or the activity stream.
Anyone have any idea what’s going on?
Thanks in advance
