@mercime
ParticipantYou might mean https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/demo-data-creator/ good up to WP 3.0.5.
This doesn’t however create groups, blogs, etc.
Definitely for a test install. The last time I used this some months ago, when I deactivated/deleted/uninstalled the plugin, it took away all users etc as I think it was also mentioned in plugin site before.March 29, 2011 at 7:52 pm #109071@mercime
Participant@pjnu No, do not disable Secure Invites yet. The last time I tested Secure Invites a year or so ago, my test users had to reset to a new password when I disabled Secure Invites plugin, it was a hassle so I haven’t used the plugin since then. I don’t know if that’s one of the consequences if you disable it now.
Let me double-check on the users base in some installs, then I’ll get back to you.

ParticipantAhh, thank you @mercime. If I disable Secure Invites, will the registration process return to normal?
March 27, 2011 at 11:20 pm #108865@mercime
ParticipantIt would be worthwhile to check registration as that behavior is not the norm. Which kind of registration below are you currently using?
– Open registration
– Registration coming from Invite Anyone // I see users added in BP and see them in backend of WP blog where BP is installed
– Registration coming from using Secure invites
– Registration comng from Facebook connect plugins – which one?
– Registration via LDAP or other form of connection bridgeEdit – dashboard Users > Add New adds users to the specific blog where user was added.

Participant@djpaul. Yes I’m using MU. So I have to manually add users to my one MU blog? That sounds extremely time consuming an inefficient.
Why aren’t they automatically added?@nathanielrenton I don’t know why this is happening.

KeymasterAre you using multisite, though?

MemberI only recently started using Buddypress. I’m not familiar with how things were in 3.0.
Is there a user setting that I need to change to have them appear under the members list?March 27, 2011 at 5:58 pm #108846Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterThey will be listed there. You’re not using multisite, are you? In 3.1, new users aren’t automatically assigned to a blog so they appear in a different place than you might expect from new users created in 3.0.

MemberAm using the stand-alone Church theme and installed the BP Template Pack.
Just tried to remove the admin bar and installing the Sliding AJAX Login Panel Plugin. But the same problem again. but….
The weird thing is than if i try to log in from, 3w.mysite.com main page it doesnt work. but if a log in from, lets say 3w.mysite.com/activity or /groups et… it WORKS! but just with the admin and not with a X user.am going to uninstall all the plugins and see what happens.
thanks!Edit: Just de-activated the plugins, and nothing…the same thing.
It a pain in the (*) cuz it logs me in. Cause if a log in with a X user and the go to my dashboards, WP tell my than am dont got the necesary privileges. The thing its i cant see my status in the home page ot nothing…..

ParticipantDeactivate BuddyPress and BP plugins and change to default twentyten. Permalinks should be resolved before installing BP.
Have you searched online for ISAPI rewrite and WordPress? This looks like the ticket http://www.helicontech.com/cms_articles/wordpress.htm or you could post in their forums.
WP Codex has some info for IIS servers https://codex.wordpress.org/User:ringmaster/IIS#Configuring_Permalinks

Participant@DJPaul @nexia Thanks for the replies guys.
The only thing in my footer is a tag cloud widget which is the generic one built into wordpress?
I have deactivated all plugins when the new password is set and that doesn’t help and this occurs in EVERY theme so it’s not my theme.
It’s really bizarre. I’m going to get Boris to take a look over FTP but if we can’t find anything would you guys be prepared to take a look?
One thing I have noticed is that with the MYSQL DB for this site, there are no users attached to it, so it is just one DB and one password for it. On my other sites the install seems to have created a user for the DB which is set the same in wp-config so that even when you change your main passwords the user password is unchanged and therefore you don’t have to edit wp-config.
Saying this I’ve tried setting up a user and changed the details in wp-config to match and the problem still persists. The entire site works except for the footer not showing.
Bloody odd.
You can see the site and footer showing at the mo at http://www.actonthis.co

ParticipantDeactivate BuddyPress and BP plugins, test registration and check DB wp_users table, does registration generate 2 rows for that new user? At this point, I do recommend restarting from scratch – delete htaccess file and drop DB tables and re-upload WP files manually i.e. via FTP or cpanel. – got to have a good solid WP/BP foundation moving forward.

Member“If you make a new user account, does it work ok?”
Well, yes and no. The user information is saved to the database, but as mentioned earlier, in two’s. I’m getting two of everything.
1. When I submit the form field, and if there’s an error, I get two error messages for the same error (per field).
2. I get two activation emails per user.
3. I have two wp_users with same username
4. Then when I click the members link, I have two members with the same name, avatar..etc. (at least this is consistent with wp_users
)And I just began to notice that my avatar uploads isn’t working either….do I need to start over? or create a DB hack where it deletes duplicate rows before sending an activation email?
Some things are working, like when someone signs up, and activates their account, the cookies are saved and the login status is active. This is why I’m not sure if I just need to delete and re-create everything.

ParticipantOk, you made me double-check a database
Only one row per user.@v_andreev
– What versions of WP/BP are you using?
– Do you have any kind of membership plugin activated?
– You’re saying your found two rows per user in prefix_users table? In those two rows per user, do they both have same email address and username? Better yet, what is/are the only difference/s between the two rows?March 11, 2011 at 5:28 am #107497In reply to: BuddyPress throwing 404
@mercime
ParticipantDeactivate BuddyPress and BP plugins. Run Settings > Permalinks and choose permalink other than default. https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Where.27s_my_.htaccess_file.3F and next topic below that is content of htaccess for single WP installation
Resolve WP installation before activating BuddyPress. Also if you plan to allow blogs for your users, create a network i.e. go multisite and resolve any issues before activating BuddyPress.

Participant@mojoshaun, @oriste I have not figured this out yet, actually I stopped trying for a long time, I am about to begin my search again, I think there are some solutions now.
@jivany, a wpmu question indeed, but now that its all wp3-in-one, I’ll pose the question again here. Also, it’s not for the option of having a “blog” — remember everyone doesn’t use the multisite “blog” as a traditional blog in a blog network. I have other uses for the “site” for each user. My users aren’t necessarily aware that they are on a “blog network” so they don’t think in terms of blogging or having a blog etc. Each user “blog” is just a posting tool that is integrated into their profiles, much like FB notes. So I’m not too worried about anyone being annoyed because they could care less about what we call it in the forums or in the backend.

Participant@jakel I did ask the developer about being able to fill in the registration form, but his response was “only autoregistration is supported. It’s on my to-do list for eventual implementation, no time estimate yet though.”
I’m sure it’s possible, although I know I don’t have the skills to do it.
@r-a-y in response to your edit, currently when a new user is added with the fb plugin they don’t appear as a new user in the activity stream, would this also be solved by using bp_core_activated_user ?
March 3, 2011 at 7:38 pm #106743r-a-y
KeymasterThe plugin needs to hook into the “bp_core_activated_user” action.
Welcome Pack hooks into this action as well.
[EDIT]
It appears the WP-FB-Autoconnect has their own action to hook into – “wpfb_inserted_user”.
So basically, Welcome Pack and other plugins could hook into that as well. Two options around the problem!

Mape
ParticipantHi
I know these posts are really old, but does this still work? I’m not quite sure how I really have to do it?
So can maybe someone help me with it please?
I want to hide the username field, and would like to auto-generate the username based on the normal “Name” field in BuddyPress.
So that WP and BP automatically take the first and last name out of the “Name” field. e.g. Name field input: George Smith username: georgesmithI already have the plugin activated that user can login with their email address.
Thanks for help!

ParticipantHmm first thing I would do is deactivate anything BP and simply ensure that your system and WP is correctly able to send emails or that you have configured email dns correctly. Host isn’t Bluehost is it ?
