KeymasterThis site is running an external bbPress install, not the bundled one with BP.

ParticipantQuick update: I deleted the theme and uploaded it again and it did not fix it. Still the same as it was.

ParticipantI am using PHP version 5.2.10.
I am going to re-upload the theme that I am using (the default included with BuddyPress).
Also I don’t see any error logs and there are no error messages on the forums page (/forums).

KeymasterThis site uses an external bbPress install, and is not the conventional BuddyPress method for setting up forums.
An example of the conventional BP method can be found here: http://testbp.org/forums
If you like the way the bp.org forums look, you’ll have to integrate WordPress with bbPress.
One guide to integrate WP and bbPress can be found here:

Other WP/bbPress guides are available over on:

KeymasterOmit steps 38-41 in the tutorial above.
Your issue is really a WPMU<->bbPress integration and has nothing to do with BuddyPress.
It is definitely doable to integrate.
Last time I did it, I used WPMU 2.8.6 (i believe) and latest bbPress (1.0.2).
Might I suggest heading over to the bbPress forums?

MemberI did that first, to no avail. I’ll retrace my steps and see if I did something wrong. What was the latest version of bbP & WPMU you were able to sync?

KeymasterIntegrate bbPress with WPMU first. Then disable groups and forums in BuddyPress. No need to go through BuddyPress’ Forums setup.

MemberI went through that this morning, and everything was fine up until I had to go to “Forums Setup” — there’s no longer an option to enter URLs, name, password, etc on a Forum Setting page on the current version of BP.

KeymasterThis tutorial worked for me:

It’s a little old, but the basic premise is the same.

ParticipantI bet we don’t need to do “deep integration” anymore, we just need to figure out what additional code to add to whatever file it is that BuddyPress uses to display the forums page.
I’d really appreciate a code sample.
Cheers,
Dainis

ParticipantThis site is using a separate bbpress install rather than the BuddyPress inbuilt group forums. That’s why it looks different here.
Sorry, I know that’s not much help for your problem though.
February 10, 2010 at 4:32 pm #62973D Cartwright
ParticipantI might be mistaken, but as far as I know there isn’t a ‘global forum moderator’ role in the current version of the BuddyPress forum integration. As such, this could require a plugin to work…
I’m assuming you’re using the normal BuddyPress->bbpress group integration, not a separate install of bbpress?

@mercime
ParticipantFresh install WP 3.0 alpha-trunk-r13040 with BP 1.2 trunk-r2639
When installing Forums component, getting this message:
bbPress files were not found. To install the forums component you must download a copy of bbPress and make sure it is in the folder: “wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/”
Quickfix: I placed the bbpress 1.0.2 folder and files within. Then I went BP > Forums Setup and the regular options found for internal set up of bbpress appeared in panel.

ParticipantThe achievements solves part of the user activity issue. but the other issue about rating is still open. Does anyone know of any reputation or Karma plugin for buddypress. I guess it matters mostly around the forum. I found a plugin for bbpress https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bb-reputation/ and also there is intense debate for blog comments.
I will be needing this, so any advice on how to go forward to write or adapt a plugin would be incredibly helpful.

ParticipantI’m also looking for this. There seems to be a bbPress plugin that could be ported over: https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/thanks/ but this would only work in the forum.

ParticipantHi,
It is a fresh install of all three – WPMU, BP and bbPress. I did not know that I could install bbPress from that menu in BP, so I installed in in directory “Forums”.
So bbPress is running fine in that directory, only it is not integrated.
Ok, I was not aware of the groups-thing you mention. I will try that out!
Thanx

ParticipantHi,
if it is a fresh first install how is it possible that you clicked the “Use an existing bbPress installation”.
If you haven’t forums before install you can’t have some after !

Anyway, to have forums within BP; you have to create a group first. And then from group you can create a forum.
On your site, you installed the forum outside of BP, it is a “separate install” config.
If you want it to integrate BP, make a backup of the forum tables if their content is precious to you. Erase or rename the actual bb-config file.
Add an empty bb-config.php at the site root and re-install the forum by cliking “new install” this time.

KeymasterThanks, Ray. It’s there, appears to be complete, and is readable by apache. bb-config.php is also where it’s always been, and has all the right info. Dashboard > Forums Setup is telling me bbPress is set up correctly, but I reinstalled bbPress just for kicks, both as a new and an existing installation, and it’s still not working.

Participantbedo02, followed your advice multiple ways. Been posting quite a bit and would love some code excerpts for how to make certain things show up in the forums. For example, with the one-click, only groups show up, and I’d like to replicate what BuddyPress does here https://buddypress.org/forums (displays “Main Themes”).
I’m able to access bbPress’s admin, but I don’t know how to make the forums and posts made there show up in BuddyPress. Been posting and could really use some code examples.
