Try reverting to the default theme and see if it works.

Just completed new installation of BuddyPress and activated new bbPress. Settings show that the Forums are installed correctly. I have a couple of groups that are “Public” that have at least one topic. I am incorrect in thinking that these topics should be visible on this page:

    http://worsttofirstcampus.org/forums

It seems like it just defaults to http://worsttofirstcampus.org

Does it have anything to do with the theme I have selected for BuddyPress pages?

    Hi Kunal,

I’m using both on my test environment right now (still undecided if I want to go with embedded bbPress or external!).

You should be able to use BP’s internal bbPress forums by going straight to the BP forums slug.

    By default, this is:

    http://YOURBPINSTALL.com/forums/

If your external bbPress install is the same as this slug, you’ll need to modify your BP forums slug to something else.

You can do this by adding this line in your wp-config.php:

    define( 'BP_FORUMS_SLUG', 'somedifferentslug' );

I upgraded from Bp 1.0.3 to 1.1.2 yesterday and I went ahead and activated the external bbpress forum I had earlier. I would like to instead use the built in forums now so that I can have a forums dashboard like that on testbp.

Is there any way that I can now switch without losing my forum posts?

Are looking to have a sitewide forum instead of group-based forums? If so, read my response in this thread:

Well if I use the bbopress in buddypress for new installation, HOW do I add forum sections?

    You can’t add forum sections.

BuddyPress forums are tied to groups. So you’ll have to create new groups with forums in order to emulate forum sections.

If you’re trying to setup BuddyPress forums to be like this:

    http://testbp.org/forums

Remove bbPress and reinstall BuddyPress. This time, follow these instructions:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/

Specifically the “Setting Up Forums” section.

If you plan on using a separate install of bbPress, you’ll need to theme it.

No way around this I’m afraid.

You could use Manoj Kumar’s BuddyPress theme for bbPress to get a similar looking BP feel:

    http://manojkumar.org/buddypress-theme-for-bbpress/

    Hope that helps!

Standard bbpress installations have their own admin panel. Since bbpress is actually a totally seperate software it just has a nice extra that it can intergrate with wordpress. So if you installed it manually and did not use the already made bbpress in buddypress, then you can make and administrate your bbpress from its admin panel. If you used the bbpress in buddypress then you won’t have a handy admin panel.

    Hey Vividbreeze,

What are you trying to do?

I’m guessing you want to use BuddyPress’ embedded bbPress forums like this:

    http://testbp.org/forums

If so, go into your WPMU admin area, and under “BuddyPress > Forums setup” and select ““Set up a new bbPress installation”.

If you’re trying to integrate a separate bbPress install, reply back and let us know.

I’ve posted my “White Screen” topic in a new thread, as it doesn’t fit here, as it looks like the tables have been created. Can’t seem to delete my above post.

    jjj,

thanks for the plugin but i can’t get to my bbpress admin when i use the deep integration code. using buddypress 1.0.3, wpmu 2.8.5.2 and bbpress 1.0.2. I have gone all five pages of this thread and tried everything everyone has suggested but whenever i put in the deep integration code i get redirected back to my blog’s homepage. if i take the code out i can access bbpress admin just fine. i have subdomains for my blogs but have forums on a subdirectory.

If there have been any further updates pls advise

    Hi guys (and gals),

I too am using the one-click new installation option… it only asks me to create a bb-config.php file (and gives me what I should put in it), after which it says that “bbPress forum integration in BuddyPress has been set up correctly. ” … but nothing will load on any forum pages… all that shows is a white page. No header, no nothing.

By looking around in the files of the WPMU installation, I see all the bbpress files in the “wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress” directory, including a “bb-config-sample.php” file, but no bb-config.php file.

The one-click installation page mentioned at the beginning of this post told me to put the bb-config.php file in the root directory of my WPMU install, but maybe I should put it in the same directory as “bb-config-sample.php”?

Thanks for any help… just installed BuddyPress today and love it! :)

    [UPDATE]

Okay, I just checked my DB via cpanel, and the tables are there… but BuddyPress isn’t showing *anything* related to forums on my installation.

The forums on my site are here: http://www.greenparenting.ca/forums

Hi Andrea_r, waiting for videos to your session/s at http://wordpress.tv/event/wordcamp-new-york/ :-)

I tested your theme in a site under development.

WPMU 2.8.5.2 + BP 1.1.2 + bbpress installed via BP one click

Main site with MU Sitewide Tags Pages

BuddyPress main site in blog-ID-2 at http://members.example.org/

Thank you for the clean theme. Without looking at code, i.e., checking it out like a newbie who activated the theme, following are some quick notes:

    1. wp-admin-bar – Text (e.g. Org Members) of link to BuddyPress site ( http://members.example.com) shows up in backend (dashboard etc) but does not show up in front end. The link block is there and clickable to main BP site, but the text does not show up. Still, the wp-admin-bar shows correct links to main BP site, etc. throughout the site including sub-blogs.

    2. Footer widgets only showing up in only in blog areas – is this the intention?

    3. h1 – cannot find it anywhere in the theme. Need at least one h1 per Post or Page

    4. Main Nav – link to Forums was not generated to show BP main site nor other subblogs nor main site, while link to a newly activated “Events” plugin page was generated to show in the main nav across all sites. (the link to Forum shows up in this install when I use child theme)

    5. Main Nav – like the official bp-child theme, activating the theme in sub-blog for groups or individual members does not show correct links to main BP site features like member/group/blog directory. In order for one theme to be used throughout the site, conditional statement will be needed to show correct links to main BP site conjoined with respective blog’s navigation links.

Quick scan in main BP site (blog_id_2) to see how theme works in different sections

    6. Members Section

    – directory page – 2 columns – ok

    – My own admin individual profile page – skeleton set up with 2 columns where in left column is avatar, options bar and user bar boxes. But there is a large space on the right side as if missing a 3rd column. Checked links in options bar resulted in two columns with links except the ff which has a missing left column – Edit Profile page, Change Avatar page

    – If I click on another member’s individual profile page – left column as two user bar boxes unlike the link to my profile which has the options bar and user bar. In addition, when I also am missing the left column with options/users boxes in Blogs link page, Friends link page, Groups link pages plus the Events link page is incorrect and goes to front page of site

    7. Groups Section

    – directory page – 2 columns – ok

    – Group individual page – skeleton set up with 2 columns – but there is a large space on the right side as if missing a 3rd column plus the page is missing all sub-navigations for Creating a Group, Creating forums etc

That’s it for now. As mentioned above, didn’t look at codes “behind the scenes” at this point, only the functionality if newbie user activated it.

    Good luck :-)

    Thanks for the help Jeff.

The reason I posted is due to not finding anything definitive in the search… all results I have found on “deep integration” are either people saying you need it or are they using it….

however one of the results gave me an idea.

What if I keep bbpress as the group forum. but then use simplepress to handle the more traditional forum?

That way im guessing it would be treated as 2 seperate forums – all i would need to do then is share the user data?

The missing piece is deep integration. There are a number of threads on these forums about how to do just that. It is not easy.

    Thanks Jeff.

I’ve followed that link and got stuck a bit.

I have the one-click-install working without a problem.

I then uploaded BBPRESS to a new directory off the root (called it /forum/). browsed to that directory and didnt get taken to an install page….

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Hi capitalistdog,

Short answer as of right now is “No”.

This feature has been listed as a new enhancement here:

    https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/946

What you could do right now is create five separate groups for your different Economic sections… I know that’s not what you wanted to hear!

You won’t be able to include a PHP through the uri, it will need to be done via the ABSPATH.

If I’m reading the error correctly, it looks like it’s taking the

require_once( ABSPATH . WPINC . "/class-IXR.php");…and turning it into a big long string. (unless that’s just how bbpress stripped it out…)

Thank you very much Jeff. I think the default theme caused me the confusion. With a “forum” tab, it would seem that it would be separate from groups rather than integrated into groups. I really appreciate the clarification.

The integrated version of bbPress creates group-based forums. So, to add a topic, you must be within that group’s forum. If you want a sitewide forum, you will have to install another copy of bbPress (you can use the same bbPress tables) using deep integration. There are a number of threads on these forums about how to do just that.

Read this Codex article for more information:

If you’re using a standard installation afaik you don’t have to do anything with the bbpress file. Have a look at the translations page on this website (under Codex) and see what other people have done.
