Latest versions of WP, BP, and bbPGoal
I’m trying to devise a simple, socially-oriented discussion space that has some invitation-only groups, and specific private fora for specific topics, but that is easy to enter and manage.Structure
My initial thought was to have two groups:
Fans – open group
Various fora – all openContributors – invitation-only group
Specific fora and sub-fora – all private. For example:
Project forum 1 – open only to some members of the Contributors group
Project sub-forum A – open only to some members of the Forum 1 groupI’m finding that the groups and fora are hard to administer. I’d like to be able to simply check some boxes on the back end to define which site members belong to which groups and fora. Instead, they have to join, then I have to invite them (through the front end) to each group and to each forum and sub-forum. It’s slow and tedious.
Infrastructure
I had thought that using both BuddyPress and bbPress would give me what I want, and it does function, but it’s unattractive and awkward to manage. Some specific issues:- Group ‘forum’ – each group has its own discussion space aside from the fora. I’d like to force people to use the fora instead.
- Signup – as noted, it’s very awkward to manage memberships in groups and fora; too much so for anyone to realistically sign up for the site, join a group, join a forum, join a sub-forum. I know who should be where; I’d like to manage all or most of this on the back end.
- Forum font size – is very small. While this seems a small detail, I’ve tried altering every font setting in my theme, and none seem to affect this.
Questions:
- Am I using the right tools? Would just bbPress or just BuddyPress be better?
- Are there specific plugins I should be using? I’ve seen some that look useful, but many are out of date. Some aren’t described with much specificity. I’m not sure which would do what I want.
Advice much appreciated.
(Also, any free themes that would work well, so that fora aren’t pushed way down the page.)

Has anyone looked at connecting to Topic’it (ios/android)? They are an app similar to tapatalk, except without the vendetta against wordpress. They already connect to PHPBB and others through plugins, and are making their API available to anyone who wants to create a plugin for wordpress..

I have a membership site. It’s running Woocommerce, WP 4.9.6 and Buddypress 3.0.0. My BuddyPress status is below.I’m having a problem when someone is choosing a any kind of membership(I only have free and 1 paid at the moment). When they get to the billing screen they can either use Facebook or Google to login and fill in the details.
Once they do that, Buddypress redirects them to their wall. I want them to be able to continue the checkout process. I’ve tried so many things, but can’t override it.
Please help!

Something weird as recently started to happen, all my notifications are coming up blank? I am using buddypress 2.9.4 and bbpress 2.5.14 and it only started recently. Theme is upto date and so are the plugins.What is the easiest way to debug the blank notifications please?

Not sure how to implement the fix, or if I need to; I’m not seeing @suggestions in my forum and I’m not sure if it’s theme related or the plugin. Also I’m still learning wordpress, how to implement the fix @mlwilkerson described would be helpful.

Hello there,
I am running an installation using woffice theme. This theme has been recently updated to be compatible with new BP (there was some profile issue).
I am using wp 4.9.6 and wordpress is installed in a directory, at the root.With this theme, I can create a group and attach a forum to it (bbpress plugin).
When I updated BP to 3.0, the forum stopped displaying, and the adminbar on top of page disppeared as weel on forum pages (but not on groups without forums). I also use BP group documents plugin, and the documents cannot display either.
I desactivated all plugins except those needed, that is to say : BP, Unyson (comes with the theme, cannot do without) and bbpress, but the issues are still there.Any help would be very appreciated as I am at a loss to what to do to fix this !

This is an odd problem that I’ve seen referenced before, but no concrete solutions that work.
What happens, is if I have the Extended Profiles enabled, then the “Alphabetical” option in the “Order By” drop down of the Member Directory page, does not get displayed.
But as soon as I enable Extended Profiles, then I see the Alphabetical option in the drop-down.
The other quirk I have, is when I have the Extended Profiles enabled, I do not see WordPress’s “Biographical Info” field displayed, when I’m Viewing my Profile.
Yet if I have Extended Profiles disabled, then I see the Biographical Info displayed as “About Me” when viewing my Profile. And yet I also have no option to “Edit” my Profile, when Extended Profiles are off.
You see the issue, is my users have typed in basic bio/profile info in their Biographical Info field (I believe since one of the bbPress plugins easily enables that). And since they have spent time doing this, I want to display it in the Profiles and let them Edit it when using the BuddyPress Profile options. Unfortunately it is not displaying when Extended Profiles is enabled.
Can I create a “read only” forum?
I notice now that I can create a post then “close” it, but then it “grays out” the print.
is there a way the a forum can be read only, and/or close the thread so it looks normal and not grayed out?Or just have the text in a “read only” forum be black!,.. can I change that on the style sheet?

Hello, since installing version 3.0.0, we’ve lost the ability to comment on group posts. Is this a bug ???
On the other hand, in the presentation video of the template New, we see an editor like the one to customize the themes but for Buddy Press. How can we reach it?Regards

After updating to the latest version of BuddyPress, BBpress forums do not load under Group pages (as well as the footer and admin bar). I deactivated all other plugins and this did not resolve the problem. I returned to the previous version of BuddyPress, and that resolved the issue. Is this a known issue?
