    Hi ray. I tried your link but still have the same problem. After creating the group and forum thru the group, i have to go back into the group admin and tick the forum box again to make it work. it seems to be creating the forum; just not associating the group with it the first time around. Thanks for your efforts

    Hi Mark,

    Try the steps I listed here and see if that helps:https://buddypress.org/support/topic/forum-setup-2/#post-146882

    To the BuddyPress Team and everyone else who was ever trying to figure out how to offically get the featured image to display the Featured image Inside the Buddypress activity item excerpts. Also please to the BuddyPress team, include this code in your new update. This will support themes like mine with custom code. No BS too, this really works!

    Here is the code that will fix you’re issue (place the following code into your functions.php file):

    Why isn’t it letting me post the code?

    Anyway here is the link to the RAW code:

    still wondering about legitimate users and wether they would caught by the mass deletions if their only activity was buddypress activity.

    Interesting how compatible with buddypress is User Spam Remover? It mentions some stuff about bbpress in the faq but not buddypress. i could see mass deleting completely inactive users but maybe they just created some activity updates or joined a group or something would hate to catch those kind of users in my net.

    EDIT: i just saw your other post will comment further there.

    Here is an update on how I’m dealing with the spam user registrations on my Battle City site.

    At some point I realized, I will never defeat the spam user registrations. My efforts helped to limit them, but not eliminate the problem. So I decided, maybe what I need to do is limit the impact. The spam user registrations are still there, but now I barely see them. This is what I do:

    To limit the spam user registrations, I use “Buddypress Humanity” and “SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam“. “Askimet” then picks up on most of the spam comments posted by those who still manage to register.

    Next, I use “BuddyPress Block Activity Stream Types“. With this plugin I hide all new user registration messages from the Activity stream.

    Finally, I use “User Spam Remover” plugin to go in once every couple of weeks to mass delete 95% of all spam users.

    This doesn’t eliminate the problem, but makes life more manageable and keeps most of the spam users out of sight unless they manage to get past Askimet and post some messages.

    My site for Battle City was getting hit hard with spam user registrations. I wrote a post about it in the forums here.

    @Deceth – the easiest way to do this is to remove the content in the activity/post-form.php file in your theme. https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.6.2/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/post-form.php the second easiest is to go through the theme and remove all includes to that template.

    I received the same error message on my Battle City BuddyPress site.

    When I updated to WordPress 3.5, it took a long time and I think some files may have transferred incorrectly… (Actually, something definitely went wrong or timed-out because I didn’t get a copy of the new Twenty Twelve theme at first)

    Assuming you’ve already upgraded to WordPress 3.5 and BuddyPress 3.6.2, here’s what I did.

    Disabled BuddyPress plugin.
    From plugin page, clicked to re-install WordPress 3.5
    Re-enabled BuddyPress.

    Everything then worked. If you’re still having trouble, you could also try re-installing BuddyPress, but I didn’t have to since my issue was with the WordPress upgrade.

    But are you suggesting that after using BP Template Pack once it is a good idea to turn it off and then re-up everything via FTP?

    @bennygill No. Like I said above, do that “unless it was explicitly stated in your theme install instructions” because some BP-compatible themes do not require the BP Template Pack plugin anymore.

    It looks like the developer has changed some configurations because the topic/forum category links go to 404 page. bbPress plugin is activated. At this point, can’t second-guess what the developer is doing. Since you hired the person, you should ask him/her what’s going on with the site.

    Ah, I think I’ve figured out the problem (or at least a part of it?)

    Apparently, WP 3.5 blew the Default BP theme out of the water — and replaced it with Twenty Twelve.

    Now I’m searching where / how I can get the default BP theme installed again (?)

    I am experiencing this exact same problem too, would greatly appreciate some help here. I’m running a customized bootstrap theme with BuddyPress.

    @buddies I presume you’re referring to the Pinboard theme from WP Theme Repo? Please start a new topic for that theme.

    @mercime

    @rossagrant theme authors should add $content_width – it’s a constant used to set the maximum width of embedded content like videos. It’s a standard part of just about any well-coded theme like those in WP theme repo per requirement https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Review#Required_Hooks_and_Navigation

    Add the following at the top of your theme’s functions.php file
    /**
    * Sets up the content width value based on the theme's design and stylesheet.
    */
    if ( ! isset( $content_width ) )
    $content_width = 600;

    Measurement is in pixels. Change 600 as needed.

    blogurp, bless you!!!! I had tried to activate another plug-in and it didn’t work, but this time, I just clicked on the Update Now for BuddyPress from the Plug-Ins area of the Dashboard, and it removed the old BP and updated the plug-in and installed successfully. No more error code! All of the posts seem to be there. Whew. Now I have to activate plug-ins one by one and hope nothing breaks again with 3.5.

    Thank you SO MUCH for your help and quick responses!!!

    I’m guessing your site is a regular single WordPress install with BuddyPress plugin? You can’t get to your dashboard via modpo.org? I just went to modpo.org/wp-admin and it showed for a second then it went away. If you are using one of those hosting companies with one press WordPress install, they might not let access to modpo.org/wp-admin. I just went to modpo.org/wp-login and it came up as a 404 error page not found, but, it shows the login for your site. See if you can login there. If you can login there, then you should be able to get to your dashboard, if you have login set to take you to your dashboard. If you can, then you can deactivate BuddyPress there, and then upgrade or just upgrade. Plugins do not have to be activated to upgrade, just installed. If none of that works, then I would say you would have to get rid of the BuddyPress plugin via FTP to access your site, then reinstall the new version, or, you can do it through your hosting company where you can access your files in your root directory.

    It looks like 1.6.1 is only available here, but, 1.6.2 will be available in your dashboard as an upgrade, but if you can’t get to that, I’m not sure where you can get 1.6.2 yet.

    Thank you both! Now I’m wondering how I can update BP as I can’t do anything on my Dashboard — I have to delete and add the BP update to the server files via FTP, right? There is a plug-in file and I would delete anything named BuddyPress before uploading the new BP files? Where do I get the actual files? I’ve only ever just pressed the download button from the WP Plug In “store”!

    I had those same three errors on my test site, nky.mobi. Like Ben said, I had to upgrade to BuddyPress 1.6.2, after getting WordPress 3.5. I then had to get rid of name availability checker plugin from BuddyDev through my FTP client because the site would not work with it. Then, I had to manually network activate BuddyPress through network admin because for some reason it was not network activated. After that, everything came back fine. Could only access dashboard there too cause BuddyPress was not activated.

    On the Tersus demo, I see the theme uses Jquery 1.8.1

    If Im not mistaken, BuddyPress currently uses 1.7.1 OR 1.7.2

    Some of the javascript features won’t properly work without resolving this conflict.

    TO see if your theme is the problem, choose the BP -Default theme and try to create a group and send a message. If it works fine, you need to fix your theme javascript.

    You should find it in functions.php
    Hit ctrl+f to quickly search for ‘1.8.1’
    Change it to 1.7.2 and save it. Then try to create groups and send messages with your new theme again.
