thanks for your assistance drill_sgt. I had done that already – with just buddypress active the pages remain blank.
The odd thing I’ve noticed that I mentioned above – when buddypress is activated the gravatars don’t load. Deactivate buddypress and they work again. I understand from reading other threads that this may be an existing issue with gravatars and wordpress/ buddypress but I didn’t notice before this problem kicked in.

I do not want to speculate so if I was you I would deactivate each plugin one at a time and create a test user for registration after each plugin is deactivated until you find the one that is bugging you down. Its worth the time to track it down then report it back to the plugin author so they are aware of the issue.

what plugins do you have installed? Have you used the buddypress template pack plugin? If so I believe this theme is already buddypress compatible so if you have it installed it may cause a conflict. List your plugins please.

@mercime I mean no disrespect. I do not want this topic locked sir but when you snuff out people especially ones that is willing to help it only shows dictatorship. Who is abusive? @ethanvan or @johnjamesjacoby? Its a matter of perspective because I can see to a degree a little from both sides. This shall not be a power struggle. We should work as a unit. As stated above one shall not cast stones when you live in glass houses. I think it would be wise to let this topic evolve and hope that there becomes a positive result. So lets keep things positive please because this is something that seriously needs nurturing.
    Edit:
We need passionate people here so until it gets to a point where there it is threatening in nature I think it would be wise to allow this topic to evolve and maybe get some good developers helping out more. Thank you!

Cheers drill_sgt.lewis, however I installed WP super cache plugin after the problem first occurred. It is no longer installed and problem continues…

marking as a spammer won’t delete the account it only puts it in limbo. Why not just delete them from your dashboard. There may be some plugin to help with this but most likely it has not been updated in ages to I can’t validate their usefulness.

Get rid of the WP super cache plugin. It just introduces problems that buddypress is not equipped to handle.

I have been doing this since buddypress 1.0 and I will almost guarantee 80% it is a faulty plugin, if not its your host because out of the box it works perfectly. Its when bad code is introduced when things go awry. Like I said if its not a plugin then its your host. Also just for your information AOL filters out buddypress registrations so I would use the ban hammer plugin and ban your users from registering with that specific domain.

@ethanvan I take you seriously but will the gleek club allow it. This seems a bit more like a dictatorship than a democracy because as I stated before it seems there is a you against us attitude and instead of being co-operative. Maybe the transfer of knowledge is frightening but we need to work together instead of against each other. I personally don’t care how long you have been with the project. I have led 24,674 combat troops successfully because we was one and trained as a cohesive unit, so have a better disposition when trying educate people on leadership when you are not really educated in this realm. I am tired of people who live in glass houses casting stones. I would be ashamed of myself to do such. Especially when there is people willing to restructure the documentation that should have been there in the first place. Allow others to help with this project so it can continue to thrive instead of pushing them away. Get your ego’s in check because I think its throwing your judgment off. This goes for everyone because there is no need for this attitude. @johnjamesjacoby I understand you lead this project but with all do respect your a human and so am I. Your judgment on this issue is misguided and your abandonment of people willing to help will come back to bite you. I wouldn’t want that on my resume. I think this issue needs to be taken seriously and stop trying to bully others just because you have access on the site to shut them out and lock the topic whenever you get tired of listening. If that is your position of resolve then your no leader at all. I don’t want to get anyone upset but I want to see results and pushing your weight around and throwing out percentages about who did what is showing your demeanor and from what I have seen its unsatisfactory so lets try to work together here instead of acting like a power hungry dictatorship please?

Excellant point @drill_sgt.lewis! All I’m asking for is some cooperation and to be taken seriously.

I have to agree with @ethanvan on this because there seems to be a you against us attitude going on here. If you can’t work together then nothing will be gained so I would suggest taking a deep breath and be a little more co-operative with each other. If there was more documentation in the codex it would benefit the project by giving developers the knowledge to the inner workings of the software and bringing in some fresh talent with some new ideas. It would also help the moderators here by being able to point the community members to the codex which documents their specific needs. With bad attitudes and being uncooperative then I definitely can see this project ceasing and its probably the same reason there has been a mass exodus in plugin development. I understand people are doing this for free, but if your going to do half efforts then your going to get half the results. How can anyone execute when they don’t even have a descent understanding of the code because nobody wants to waste their time searching for a needle in a hay stack. If proper documentation was in place it would boost development on every level. I am asking nicely for a little more team effort and less throwing stones because that will get nothing done in a positive manner.

    Oh and another thing…

“numerous people have come into the forums and demanded change, talked about how much they dislike everything, and “if only we’d do X” that person would finally be able to do Y and Z, and it’s totally “the core team” that are holding them back.

    That’s crap.”

No, it’s not crap, it’s called not listening to the community.

“You’re an editor on the codex; if you want to edit, no one is stopping you. If you want to improve the organization of the pages and content, great — do it!”

I’m not seeing how I can reorganize the codex if I can’t even “create new topic” (which should actually say create new page, entry or post). All I can do is edit what is there. Go to the buddybar and click create new topic ANYWHERE in this site and you get “page not found”. If that’s the wrong link then where’s the right one?

I was thinking about automation actually and that’s why I want a clean slate but you are so high and mighty that you don’t even realize the codex editing structuring functionality is non-existant to my user access level. It’s basically a glorified forum to me. So you explain to me mr high and mighty @johnjamesjacoby where these alleged tools of creation and organization are. Where are they John?

    @ethanvan:

Through-out BuddyPress’s life (since 2007) numerous people have come into the forums and demanded change, talked about how much they dislike everything, and “if only we’d do X” that person would finally be able to do Y and Z, and it’s totally “the core team” that are holding them back.

    That’s crap.

You’re an editor on the codex; if you want to edit, no one is stopping you. If you want to improve the organization of the pages and content, great — do it!

Instead, you want a “clean slate” to work on indefinitely until you feel a brand new codex is ready to ship? I’m afraid to ask how long you realistically think it will take to document 5 years worth of 100k lines of code, and why you think doing something manually is more effective than writing software to automate the process — see PHP Documenter?

Your logic, and approach, are flawed.

I just want people to share their experiences and knowledge, and that’s what the codex allows. Any time or work anyone is willing to put in above and beyond that is awesome, but we need less ideas, and more execution.

    —-

What I won’t tolerate is the irony of you coming into our support forums, being disrespectful, then *demanding* respect because you have an idea about doing something you haven’t actually done yet. Note: since the beginning of the BuddyPress Codex, you’ve modified 1 page, 11 times, in the past 2 days. Total, we have 155 pages, and 3,040 total page revisions. Your contributions amount to 0.3% of total changes.

How you think you’re the guy to jump in and fix all our problems, is confusing to me. The only way to clarify this confusion, is to actually put some time into the codex!

Look… I’ll respect you no matter what you do, but I won’t trust your leadership until you treat other members of this site with with the respect they’ve earned and deserve… then you can have the keys to the codex after you start acting out your good intentions.

Until then, any contributions you give are appreciated, and will be well received. I’m sure you’re willing, and able, now all you have to do is execute.

@aaclayton – It sounds like you have/had a plugin or theme conflict of some sort, as SI Captcha should work out of the box. Good to hear you found a plugin that works.

`I expect that I should be allowed this privilege solely on the basis that I am willing to do so`

I didn’t realize that MediaWiki powered the WP codex… I quite like the WP powered codex idea I just meant that the BP codex should be organized like it is at WP.

@johnjamesjacoby – It’s already been admitted that the last attempt at the codex was a fail due to lack of leadership and everyone just doing whatever… So keeping that mentality is futile and is holding back the success of the codex. I’m not here to kiss butt and brown nose. I’m here to do a job that I won’t get paid for that will help YOU and YOUR project immensely because it needs to be done. Don’t get righteous about “earning the right” to be a leader of the codex team when your plan is not to have one.

Someone should take the reigns and build a structured codex team and I see no other person stepping up except myself. I expect that I should be allowed this privilege solely on the basis that I am willing to do so, and additionally, have many years of leadership experience. If I fail, you lose nothing and get to have a laugh at me, but if I succeed, the amount of praise and respect BP will gain will be immeasurable.

So, please let us put our pride away for a minute, stop addressing leadership rights, and concentrate on organizing a codex team and getting it structured in a way that lends itself to productivity and direction.

I agree with you @hnla we need to stay focused. I realize we need to have a deeper scope within the codex. What I think should happen first though is building the lists and descriptions of functions, hooks and filters, the reference. Then we have a base page for everything. Later we can go into deeper coverage and provide example code etc.. Any project this large needs to be completed in phases.

@modemlooper, @johnjamesjacoby, I don’t feel dismissed, the codex was being dismissed. Anyways, that’s going to change.

The very, very first thing I think should happen is setting up a clean slate to build on. Keep the codex up as is for now but give me a new, private, clean slate to create version indexes and add pages for each function, filter and hook. We can point to the new codex when phase one is complete. The reason I want to use pages is so I can implement a parented structure. Are there any objections to this? Any other ideas? Anyone wanna slap me? ;)

If you want to hire a BuddyPress consultant, please post at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-jobs-board/forum/ or at http://jobs.wordpress.net

Otherwise, create a topic and be specific about what you need answered.

My point is simply give people the documentation they need to participate.

Is there something preventing you from doing this that I can help with?

The “if you don’t do %, you’re going to lose %” attitude isn’t a great motivator; it’s leading with fear, which isn’t how I choose to lead my projects. Future development will cease when the project is no longer relevant; that will be a sad day, but it isn’t anytime soon. BuddyPress is as strong of a project as it’s ever been, so worrying about it’s future is wasteful.
