Participantflyj4ck, we try to help as much as we possibly can. The other person with the Gonzo did not come back to give the site URL so I could help him/her out. We’ve template-packed more than 100 themes successfully already, for free at that.
As for your set-up, as I mentioned above, I need to see what happened after #4 because you have a premium theme which I am not about to purchase for this purpose aside from the fact that I roll out my own themes. Let me know when you’re ready.

Participant@bellushi create a page template which does not include a page title and choose that template for the static home page.

@mercime
Participant@raminjan Activity Plus plugin is be WPMUdev https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-plus/ so you might want to contact them. Otherwise you can post at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-jobs-board/forum/ or at http://jobs.wordpress.net

@mercime
Participant@transmission there are alternatives
– free BuddyPress Media https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-media/ – not tried this, don’t know if it uploads media from status update page
– free beta BP Media http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/
– premium BP Gallery http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/November 24, 2012 at 3:05 am #145562In reply to: Maintenance Mode for BuddyPress pages?
Ben Hansen
Participantthe “maintenance mode” plugin has always worked for me and definitely blocks all pages (bp included) for all non-admins given the correct settings

ParticipantSolved! Wow. Thank goodness someone else was as dumb as I was and did the same thing and someone else was smart enough to figure it out. When I was first learning this, I stupidly transferred a theme into the wrong place and was supposed to delete the files, but it was late and I forgot in the morning. So those files were causing the problem. I had to delete over 300 but luckily I knew which one caused the problem and just had to match up file size with dates and folders and now everything is working. But without that error message above, I never would have found the solution. And I only found that from searching for Apache permalinks on Bluehost. Needle in a haystack!

ParticipantAs @sheffieldlad suggests, wp-fb-autoconnect delivers a good off the shelf solution, and provides some integration with BuddyPress profile fields
[ note: wp-fb-autoconnect is a facebook only solution, and everything is installed / controlled on your site; Pro version is a one off payment. Loginradius is a SaaS solution, with monthly payment plans to enable full features, remove labelling, etc. If you want a full SaaS solution, you should also look at Janrain, Gigya and Oneall. ]

ModeratorLook through the BuddyPress code. The core components extend a class BP_Component. You extend this class to create your own components. In folder bp-groups you can see how the groups component is being created and use it as an example.
November 23, 2012 at 3:20 am #145535Erlend
ParticipantThat doesn’t help make a separate group though, it only explains how to extend it. We want to keep our groups as they are, while adding a new component, based on groups, but with its own slug and so forth.

scorbic
ParticipantFurther, just had a quick look at the db, seems visibility levels are saved in the wp_usermeta field bp_xprofile_visibility_levels. Buddypress reads this field and enforces the policy there, so even though you have changed the site wide policy it still enforces the per user settings (if that makes any sense). What you need to do is update each users policies each time the site wide is changed. The plugin was only ever supposed to be an example on how to do it so I don’t think it is robust enough for a live server.

Participant@modemlooper Well, that’s plugin/solution I used but now is not working. As you can see, last time was updated 8 months ago. Probably is not anymore compatible with latest versions of BP.

KeymasterCool, thanks JJJ.
I’ve added an article to the codex:

November 22, 2012 at 8:56 pm #145524drill_sgt.lewis
ParticipantAnother simpler approach would be to created a bp-custom.php and place it in the plugins directory and add the following code
`<?php
function bp_guest_redirect() {
global $bp;
if ( bp_is_activity_component() || bp_is_groups_component() /*|| bbp_is_single_forum()*/ || bp_is_forums_component() || bp_is_blogs_component() || bp_is_page( BP_MEMBERS_SLUG ) ) {
// enter the slug or component conditional here
if(!is_user_logged_in()) { // not logged in user
wp_redirect( get_option(‘siteurl’) . ‘/register’ );
} // user will be redirect to any link to want
}
}
add_filter(‘get_header’,’bp_guest_redirect’,1);
?>`
This code will work to hide buddypress pages and group forums as is, if your using sitewide forums in line 4 remove the comments around:
|| bbp_is_single_forum()
Save and refresh. Works in current versions.November 22, 2012 at 7:15 pm #145522In reply to: has anyone converted BP forums to bbpress?

Keymaster* Backup your database (you may need to restore if migration fails)
* Disable BuddyPress’s Forums component
* Tools > Forums > Import
* Choose bbPress1
* Run the converter
* Visit Tools > Forums
* Run all of the repair tools (most likely one at a time)
* Visit Settings > Forums
* Make sure “Enable Group Forums” is checked
* Make sure the BuddyPress root forum is correct
* DoneNovember 22, 2012 at 5:08 pm #145513In reply to: has anyone converted BP forums to bbpress?
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIt should be possible with 1.6. You’ll need to remember to turn off the “Forums” component in BuddyPress (wp-admin > Settings > BuddyPress). I am not totally sure of the steps to do the migration; I’ll ask JJJ if this has been documented.

ModeratorYou can choose the my friends option to at least block all fields to a users friends. You can also look over @boone code to add your own visibility options. https://github.com/boonebgorges/bbg-custom-bp-field-visibility

ParticipantHi,
I think that this link will help you. Have a look at this http://wpmu.org/how-to-build-a-facebook-style-members-only-wordpress-buddypress-site/November 22, 2012 at 3:13 pm #145509In reply to: Multisite Installations

ParticipantHi Shane
If you ask my personal choice, I will go with subdirectory. But it does not make much difference.Since you are just planning to install buddypress, you just need to follow the first 2 steps and not worry about the other steps in that guide.
I haven’t seen a better guide on thing thing though.
