ParticipantHi mercime. I set up a test site on my localhost(mac environment). I then recreated the same set up on my hosting space using a fresh download of both wordpress and buddy press. I think I have located the problem to my permalinks in that WordPress includes the index.php in the permalink and this inhibits buddy press functionality(?). I have mod rewrite enabled on the server and have tried numerous elements from other support threads e.g. ensuring .htaccess is correct. I don’t have a url at present as I am only putting it up as a test site and by the time I had posted I took it down! let me know if this is enough information and any help would be most welcome.

Participant@djpaul Thanks for your reply, I guess I’d better explore the plugins for anything similar.

KeymasterThe simplest approach may be to surpress the “click here to activate your account” emails, and use something like https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/unconfirmed/ to manually activate them.

KeymasterI still can’t find anywhere that BuddyPress sends emails when something happens in the forums (unless another plugin is providing this feature for you). Best I can find is if someone replies to an Activity item created by someone posting on the forum.

ParticipantThanks so much @hnla – I was worried creating the pages would cause a problem, rather than a fix.

Participant@boonebgorges I have updated the line as suggested and now the e.g. twitter link acts like a buddypress search rather than a twitter link. e.g. the twitter id is mytwittername clicking it goes to http://mywebsite/members/?s=mytwittername

Inactive@naijaping On second thought I do like what I see in your approach better than the drop down menu I have. So I am interest in the code. From what I can tell it seems like you have everything in in your header.php file. I would like to do this with maybe a few changes in styling. Let me know when you have the code here. Thanks!
Edit:
It would also be helpful if you can share where in the header.php file that the code needs to be placed. Thanks again!October 18, 2012 at 8:36 pm #143679RobReg
Participant@mercime, you are a legend! It’s working nicely now. Thank you so much for your help

Participant@modemlooper I wanted to let you know about 2 bugs with the plugin 1: you can’t crop avatar photos after you upload them and 2: for some reason the @mentions aren’t working and then I was wondering which file I need to go into in order to add a log out button on the bar where it’s says activity, friend, etc. thanks btw I am only 14 but my dad is still technically my boss, can’t tell the difference though LOL

ParticipantThanks for your reply. I will check out with Gravity Forms if this is possible. Do you do custom coding work @modemlooper?

meg@info
Participantif you use a buddypress compatible theme, you need to edit
mytheme/members/single/home.php
and
mytheme/members/single/profile.phphome.php is global template of member page , it include the profile part.
– if you use the buddypress default, theme, you find it

ParticipantIts ridiculous you are bound to be loosing users that give up in frustration because they cant find their answers – or the same questions gets asked over and over for the same reason wasting resources. And I just started a new thread exclaiming the same because I couldn’t find this thread – I had to use google which returns lots of links to plugins about forums or about search functions.

Philipp
ParticipantI spend a lot of time to find a fix for that. So if you still have problems do the following:
1.) Download the “avatars” folder and delete all bpfull-XXxXX.jpg pictures and reupload it
2.) Take a look here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4092
@boonebgorges gave the comment with the workaround (Thanks for this!)…So this is the code to replace with in bp-core-avatars.php, line 211:
`// Check for current avatar
foreach( $avatar_files as $key => $value ) {
if ( strpos ( $value, $avatar_size )!== false ) {
$avatar_url = $avatar_folder_url . ‘/’ . $avatar_files[$key];
break;
}
}
`For me there are no more problems now… It would be great if the BuddyPress-Team could get this into the next release…

Best!

ParticipantHey @djpaul we might be talking cross purposes, I’ve likely not given you the correct info – it is now sending emails for forum replies
October 18, 2012 at 8:45 am #143640RobReg
ParticipantHi @mercime,
Thank you for the reply. I have to admit that I didn’t, I just dived in and started trying to match the file layout in my theme! I should have had a better look, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
The theme is wp clear and there is a link for it. The forum post is for a slightly older version, but I’m sure it can’t be that different so I will have a go at making those changes to get it working.
Thanks for your help, I will let you know how I get on.
Cheers,

October 18, 2012 at 5:53 am #143634In reply to: No ‘create’ new member option login widget
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterThe default theme with BuddyPress doesn’t have a log in widget. If you’re not using a different theme and you’re referring to the sidebar area, that’s hardcoded into the template. In this case, some extra text with a register link will appear as long as user registrations are enabled on your site.

October 18, 2012 at 3:33 am #143627@mercime
Participant@robreg what theme are you using? Did you check at bottom of the page you looked at where we have “template-packed” a number of WP themes https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes
If your WP theme is not listed there, open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all, paste in pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URL here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php file. I need to see the whole picture.

Participant@charlietech you have posted about this same issue in a previous post. If I recall well, the issue is either with Suffusion or the Suffusion BP template pack. Did you not contact the theme/plugin author about this issue?
October 18, 2012 at 3:22 am #143625In reply to: Post sticky in all group forums with one topic
@mercime
Participant@raphadko aas r-a-y mentioned above, it would require custom development.
Simplest way to add a notice is to create a function where you can add/revise the announcement/s and hook it into `do_action( ‘bp_before_group_forum_content’ );`
OR
copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.6.1/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/single/forum.php into your theme folder wp-content/themes/yourthemefolder/groups/single/forum.php and add/style announcement on line 2 or line 4 of that file. It will show up in all group forums but won’t show up in Forums Directory list of topics.October 18, 2012 at 3:17 am #143624In reply to: Admin access to other members messages

ParticipantHi @meg thanks for the code!! So i assume that this will attach the admin to every private message sent on the site. So the admin would receive a copy of the message sent between members. I’m I correct?
Cheers, Bojan

Participant@modemlooper lol i do objective-c but no php, yet
i know how long it takes for objective-c and its long. I heard that php was easier. Apparently not LOL. I have a couple things I would like to ask you. 1. Can you make it so they can add friends because there is no button to do it from the friend area and i dont want them to be sent to another page, also create and join/search for a group, make it so all the activity streams have the option to be viewed all at once, and i removed the top bar at the top that send them to the home page and the link to view desktop version. How can i remove the margins that are left behind i cant find it. Again i am taking hits and misses here trying to figure it out. I know it will take you a while to do the above but i would greatly appreciate if you could do it and send it to me when u can, my boss isn’t very nice and i cant figure out how to work php, but i am in the middle of integrating your plugin with push notifications. If you can do this asap tht would be great feel free to send me a beta version to test out i would be more than happy to do so. Feel free to email @ brandongelfand@yahoo.com oh and btw it was the them i was using i switched to the standard buddypress theme and now the activity button is fine.October 18, 2012 at 2:34 am #143620In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress Pages not working as expected
