    `W3 Total Cache` caused my site to performance more poorly than `Hyper Cache` did.

    Backing out W3TC and re-installing HC.

    Ughh… this is so frustrating because we have put a lot of work and effort into our system and all that our user community can share with us is “it is too slow”..

    Use this code in either your functions.php or bp_custom.php:

    `add_filter( ‘bp_blogs_activity_new_post_content’, ‘my_activity_content’, 2, 10 );
    function my_activity_content($activity_content, $post, $post_permalink){
    $postid=$post->ID;
    $activity_content = get_the_post_thumbnail( $postid );
    $activity_content .= bp_create_excerpt( $post->post_content, 25 );
    return $activity_content;
    }`

    This creates the content block of your activity stream. In the example it adds the thumbnail for the featured image and it creates an excerpt.

    I’m not getting any answer on this at bbpress forums.

    I’ve Already tried to disable all plugins, switch to default theme, reset buddypress and bbpress installation, review all settings, everything looks fine, even members profile have the forums tab with the topics list correct and no updates from forums at activity stream.

    Is it just me or there’s more people with the same problem ?

    I’m using sitewide forums after had disable groups forums

    check out this plugin hasn’t been updated in over a year but it worked as of 1.5 (may require you to use the old admin bar under 1.6) we haven’t yet upgraded.

    Thanks @PaulGibbs

    I will look into object cache shortly.

    In meantime, I want to install W3 Total Cache. I have read where too many plugins can drag down a WP/BP Site (not sure if that is just active plugins or the presence of both activated and deactivated plugins). If I have `W3 Total Cache` running, do you think I also need the following plugins?

    `Better Delete Revision
    Hyper Cache
    WP DB Optimizer`

    Also, do you have any comments on where bets to install the plugins? Some of my plugins are installed at the Network Admin site and then “Network Activated”, while other plugins are installed on the BuddyPress site.

    And finally, do you know if you are running object cache and/or W3 Total Cache on this BP Support Site? It is just as slow as the site I am running.

    Speaking as a dabbler (not a PHP coder) who’s been poking around with Drupal Commons and BuddyPress a while:

    Drupal Commons Pros —
    One very nicely designed feature set
    Very close to being ready out-of-the-box
    Well-suited for professional or corporate use
    Blog well-integrated with other features

    Drupal Commons Cons (compared with BP) —
    Somewhat configurable, but within a relatively narrow range
    Small number of themes
    Themes difficult to customize after a point
    Not ideal for non-business users; neither warm nor fuzzy
    Blog has very few features
    Getting plugins for additional features to work is often more challenging
    Drupal community, while very friendly, doesn’t address the non-technical user as readily as the WP/BP community; they’re not quite, but almost, exclusive to developers. In fairness, they’re very helpful to beginning developers.

    Hope this helps.

    In register.php I have changed to “.

    At the moment the validation appears to be happening as one can’t register without completing the field.
    BUT
    No validation NOTICE -Please complete this field- is being produced.
    It is not on the form and not there when you examine the form in firebug.
    So there appears just to be a small way to go. —-> Make the error notice appear
    Any help greatly appreciated –

    yes, it is. however, i was expecting pages to be created for things instead of having to invent them myself. the current message i’m getting is:

    The following active BuddyPress Components do not have associated WordPress Pages: Members, Activate, Register.

    All that the Settings | BuddyPress gives me is the ability to create new blank pages for each… but I have no idea what content should be going in them if I do create them.

    @Metric: Thanks so much for replying! I feel and I hope you would agree that more plugins = more conflicts and troubles. I am at this moment trying to use the least amount of plugins as possible and only the popular and well rated ones. I hope to resolve this without using another plugin and hopefully that Buddypress plugin itself comes up with a solution. Ideally it should because a successful and trouble free registration of a genuine user is the starting point and all the activity starts later! Just like a car gets a trouble free start and then a great ride!

    iOS 6 is only a few months away. It will allow image uploads. However, the cropper in BP does not work. This will get fixed. Be patient, there are a lot of people contributing to bringing awesome features but it takes time.

    Went into the plugin code and found the lines relevant to auto joining (lines 29-30 of bp-forums-screens.php and I don’t see anything regarding BP_DISABLE_AUTO_GROUP_JOIN so I’m guessing it was removed some time in the last 11 months. I commented out those two lines and my test users no longer auto join when posting new topics or replying. I realize I may have to redo this if BuddyPress gets updated in the future…

    Try using. A plugin named “Buddypress Pending Activations” it lets you check for accounts that have not yet activated their account, resend activation keys, manually activate accounts, and even delete inactivated accounts in bulk.

    Frank, if you don’t know if you’re using an object cache, then you’re probably not :) You should see decent performance improvements from adding one, assuming your server has sufficient spare RAM, etc. There are lots of articles in Google about different ways of enabling object caches in WordPress, so take a look.

    The simplest approach is to use https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/apc/ or W3 Total Cache https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/

    Hi, in my site i have more than 11000 members

    i use zlib compression extension (it must be enabled in your php server config) in header.php

    ini_set(‘zlib.output_compression’, ‘On’);
    ini_set(‘zlib.output_compression_level’, ‘1’);

    try it and see the difference.

    else try this ways :

    I’ve done some more testing and it looks like the super admin for the blog can post to groups without becoming a member but no one else can. As soon as I use a test account to post to a forum that account gets auto added to the group.

    It seems like a major assumption on BuddyPress’ part that people will always want to auto join groups….why didn’t they even think to make this an option?

    #139658

    @tommyhoang what did you do to get this working? I’ve got bp-custom.php in place but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I just created the file using my ftp client. Is there a particular way I need to add the file in order for BuddyPress to recognize it?

    #139657

    Hi @PaulGibbs — any thoughts or insights based on the answers I provided to your questions?

    @rogercoathup totally agree Roger. I think the best solution would be to build in an option for site owners to decide which way they would like the stream to behave.

    Would be awesome if that were possible!

    Hi gamelord, just trying to grasp what is going on here so forgive me if going over stuff you’ve done already.

    You can reset pages under BuddyPress under Settings > BuddyPress. Is that available to you?

    Solved. Just for completeness I found the solution to my problem here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/comments-on-inner-multisite-not-working-404-error-on-post-url

    and added a new rule to my web.config to forward to the appropriate page:

    Useful information.
    I’m using the BP-default theme. I’ll have a play around and then most likely use the plugin.
    Many thanks @modemlooper

    Kinda Piggybacking off the iPhone Uploads having a “Upload from Url” might work well as an alternative that way it can be worked around to still allow phones to upload images.

    Just a thought.

    If you think a parameter isn’t working as it should, please report a bug to BuddyPress.trac.WordPress.org.
