Take a look at how BuddyPress Activity Plus appends shortcodes to the end of activity posts. Then, have a look at BuddyPress Activity Stream Hashtags.

The concept would be to append shortcodes or a hashtag on form submission. The hashtag would be interpreted by the activity stream hashtags OR the shortcode would be interpreted during the activity stream loop.

The difference is pre-processing the data to become links or post-processing data when the page loads.

I’m still working on something similar. I need to have it done by tomorrow, so I’ve been a little sloppy about it.

1. Edit activity/post-form.php (modify the form to add your new fields)
2. Add JS to use your selections to insert hashtag or shortcode to the end of the activity textarea.
3. Add filtering links to show hashtag filter OR write custom filtering system

@ermito looks like it’s a theme issue – Salutation. To double-check, change to bp-default theme and check if issue is resolved. If it is, then contact Salutation theme author re updating to BP 1.6

Also, hope you backed up. Buddypress 1.6 also killed my site but fortunately I was able to restore the old version. So, BP 1.6 is a no-no at the moment.

Go to WordPress.org’s BuddyPress page, click developers and it will list past versions

I recommend you post your observations with Themekraft as well. I imagine that they’ve been working with the beta/RC and now final version, so they should already know what may be happening…

@rodtrent could be a bug. If WLW won’t still work after deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and changing to bp-default theme, do create a new ticket at BP trac (log in using same username and password used here) https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/newticket
When you do, give all necessary information to replicate the issue – BP/WP versions, single/multisite, plugins/theme used, Windows or Linux server, etc.

@manswab Initial scan of the code shows that you would have to change 16 BP template files from the six BP folders transferred to your active WP theme during the BP compatibility process. What’s the name of your theme? Site URI or URI to the theme’s demo page would help us get it right much faster.

I have not yet launched my buddypress site, but this is definitely one of my concerns.

If I required new users to verify their account with an e-mail activation link, would this help prevent spammers?

Hi k12onos, it’s weird you say you get this with the default theme as well. Could you provide a link perhaps to se this on your site – I understand it may not be live though.

Just as a check, are you using any plugins on top of BuddyPress? If you are have you made sure they are also updated for BuddyPress 1.6? I’m thinking there perhaps could be a scripting error from those.

@ashenkargmailcom This plugin can do it but I am not certain if its been updated for the current release of WordPress and BuddyPress. Its a premium plugin so it will set you back a few bucks. Can you do that, and point them to this discussion, too? I’m happy to talk to them directly and work with them to understand the issue. We’re keen to know if it’s a theme-specific bug or something we broke in BuddyPress 1.6. Thanks for your help.
