1. Create a Network in subdirectory structure

2. Set which blog ID BuddyPress will run on: For example, your new sudirectory, /network is the first subsite you created (therefore with ID #2), then add this to your wp-config.php

3. Install and activate BuddyPress. Go through Installation Wizard.

4. Install and activate https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/threewp-broadcast/ where you broadcast posts from /network/ into main site which will have a regular WP theme. Author link, if theme dev added it per post, would link to main site’s author.php/archive.php file which will list author’s posts in main site only and will not link back to /network/ site.

Should you have any issues with ThreeWP Broadcast plugin, please post at WordPress Multisite Forums or at plugin WordPress.org

I would avoid using WP Super Cache with BP until we get 1.6 out. Even then, I’d recommend giving page caching a miss. I think we have cache invalidation issues somewhere.

Correct

In a nutshell, if you’re on BP 1.5.x versions, you need to be on BP 1.5.5.
If you’re on BP 1.2.10 or older, you need to be on BP 1.5.5.

I don’t believe their are any specifically for BuddyPress, however any WordPress theme can be transformed into a BuddyPress theme with the BP Template pack (1) and their are afew WordPress themes around. Including AuctionPress (2), and Sitemile Auctions (3).

@d3v4 – A detailed list of security updates other than searching through the changelog at what was changed is non-existent to protect those who for whatever reason is unable to upgrade straight away.

@ashokgolusu – BP Albums 2.0 (Renamed to BP Media) is supposed to include that feature but it is still in a WIP (works in progress) state.

@xenoflare As I see it, you’re using the bbPress Twenty Ten theme that’s bundled with bbPress plugin. I recommend you create a child theme of Twenty Ten, copy over the styles there, and activate. Then run Appearance > BP Compatibility and keep the bp.css and js enabled. The instructions for Step Three of BP compatibility are in page 2 of the link I posted above.

@idowu create a bp-default child theme, go to wp-admin Appearance > Header and upload your header image. That’s it. Then override stylesheets. https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

There’s http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-simple-front-end-post/ but you have to add/adjust some code to customize it to what you need.

B. COPY your theme’s sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php

Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.

If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your peekaboo theme folder in server – activity, blogs, forums, members, groups, register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

Looking into getting started codex now.

I’ve had a play with register settings in wp and believe I’ve set it up but when I go to registry ( would like to have it as side bar) page it goes to my homepage. So confused on that one.

Just trying to get handle on one end and then work through. Can’t wait till I’ve mastered buddypress. I think it’s awesome just gotto learn how to drive it properly.

Is there other plugins that you could advise on that you think could be useful for my exercise meets tastykitchen site?

@tank2012 these questions are a little general, have you read through the BP codex ? Read through the beginners guides first as they will answer some questions.

Basic things like starting forum topics, registering really require having a little play around with the install before you let lose live. Registering is a WP function and initially you need to enable it in the WP general settings then the BP page will work at /register/ or whatever you titled the empty page.

Forums have to be enabled in the BP settings and then you can add them to groups or run as a sitewide one – again have a play around first to see how these things work then post back in a new thread if you have specific issues and problems.

Lastly bear in mind that TastyKitchen woulld have taken a while to get to the stage you see so be prepared for a little work getting there.

I’m trying to set-up my buddypress side of things and community like http://tastykitchen.com . It seems they have a normal site and then they run buddy press in it. Is that correct?

At first I only wanted a forum plugin and that’s how I found buddy press. I did want to develop a community eventually – buddypress looked like the king and so I installed it !

How do my members register and how do I set this up? Do i need more plug-ins Buddypress or have I over looked something? Ideally I would like a side login section just like tasty kitchen.

Also how do I start forum topics?

I want users to be able to join as members for free post and interact in forums and have their own unique profiles like tastekitchen in a controlled environment.

Please help I’ve looked for tutorials and tut vids but I’ve yet to find a decent one.

Also is there other plugins that you could recommend that I might need to help me run it like tasty kitchen.

In your case, we can do either method and I added disclaimers above in #1 and #2 – re page title etc. You do not create 2 new blank files – I’ll give the code for those two files if that’s the option you want OR a different set of instructions if you opt for #2
