I’m looking to use the Buddypress avatars within the BBPress forums
BuddyPress avatars should show up in bbPress forums.
WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? What plugins are activated? Have you tried deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress then changing to BP Default theme to check if issues are resolved?
Hello all, I did some searching on the subject and couldn’t find a solution that worked for me. I’m new to both Buddypress and BBPress and I’m looking to use the Buddypress avatars within the BBPress forums. Right now they’re showing two different avatars, how can I change this?
Slower, more descriptive solutions would help a lot. Everything I’ve found so far has either been outdated or too advanced for me (i.e., lacking instruction).
When I click on ‘edit’, I used to get the buddypress group topic edit form. But lately, I get the bbpress edit form. When i click on ‘save changes’ I get an error.
How can I go back to using the buddypress group topics edit form?
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

There is no ‘paid level of support’ within this site.
BuddyPress has a very ‘internalized’ business model.
You can post a call for developers here:

Thanks @bphelp
The plugin seems like a terrible idea. I mean some particular installation somewhere in the BuddyPress world might need it, but I don’t like the idea of limiting BP’s functionality (potentially thwarting the value of the online community) for everyone to try and stop a few bad apples. What number will you limit the friends to so that spammers are blocked and the community is valuable? 5, 10, 50, 100, 500?
Your original idea of throttling friend requests was far neater and remains superior to this plugin’s concept.
There is a new premium plugin out by BuddyDev called BuddyPress Limit Frienship check it out here:
BuddyPress Limit Friendship
This should help you folks out @tim_marston @ubernaut @sooskriszta . Another great job @sbrajesh !
Latest versions of everything as suggested by WordPress’s update function. BuddyPress Default theme. bbPress was installed before BuddyPress. The BuddyPress settings page had to be pointed at the correct location for bb-config.php although the forum seemed to work anyway.
When viewing my ‘member’ page, I get the sub menus of Activity, Profile, Messages, Friends, Forums and Settings. Postings I make to the forum show up in that activity stream without any apparent issues (new posts and replies). However, going to the ‘Forums’ sub menu tab I see four sub options appear below – ‘Topics Started’, ‘Replies Created’, ‘Favorites’ and ‘Subscriptions’. The first two (topics started and replies created) show up completely blank. Well, blank except for a very small smiley face which I think I associate with an error of some sort? ‘Favorites’ tab actually shows a title and a comment saying I have no favorites (likely correct). ‘Subscriptions’ shows a list of topics that appears correct.
So the problem seems to be with BuddyPress extracting forum-specific information, even though it appears to be managing to do so for the activity stream.
I didn’t find any assortment of key words that found anything resembling this problem on the search system here. No obvious clues in the apache logs…
If you are on BuddyPress 1.7 you need bbPress for forums. Do you have that installed?
BuddyPress 1.7 + no longer has forums unless you had a previous version with group forums active. I guess you could install an old version activate forums and then upgrade to get the old forums.
@rgbweb For BP 1.7+, you no longer need to install the BP Template Pack plugin to make your theme compatible with BuddyPress. BP will automagically render BP components through your theme’s page.php file. https://codex.buddypress.org/bp-17-upgrading-template-packed-themes/
Hi
Did you find a solution to this? I am having a similar problem with bp-custom.php . No matter what I put in it, even if it is blank, it breaks my site and no pages will load – just blank white pages. As soon as I remove bp-custom.php everything works again.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong? As I said, this happens even if I have a blank file called bp-custom.php inside my plugins directory.
Thanks.
Hi,
I just installed a new wordpress forum website and installed the latest version of buddypress (1.7.2) and bbpress (2.3.2) and it’s running on the latest version of WP 9WordPress 3.5.1). I’ve also installed WP Mail SMTP as I having problems receiving registration emails with the password. With WP Mail, I set up a new gmail account and used the following settings:
smtp: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465
Use SSL encryption.
Yes: Use SMTP authentication.
Followed with the gmail account and password.
I did a test email and received that with no problems. When I log out of the website admin and try to register there is no email confirmation coming to my personal gmail account.
The website is www.http://manitobansinbritishcolumbia.com/
I am relatively new to WP and brand new to forums/bb press/buddy press. If anyone could offer some assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Darryl
Hi i came across this issue and found a solution for it.
# MY PROBLEM
# When posting a update from the activity stream, it wouldn’t show the post. The only thing that would show is my name and time that i posted the update.
# MY SOLUTION
# I done some checking and found that if you have Buddypress Media on your website and you have the setting set to YES!!! on your activity upload, change it to NO!!!! and it will work.

Hello BuddyPress. I am being told that Wishlist Member and BuddyPress are enemies…is this true? I had the hopes of integrating Buddypress for my paying members and to streamline the registration process so my members only have to register once (instead of once through wishlist and another through buddypress).
Are these just impossible pipe dreams of mine or can BuddyPress be used with Wishlist Member? Also do you have any options for a paid level of support where i could get help from a BuddyPress expert in the customization of this?
thanks,
Kim
Thank you for making it a little more clear.
Is there a place to read about how buddypress is supposed to function, or its intended use for each module, kinda like JetPack information?
Are there any intentions to make the groups (notify group members of site activity) interactive in the near future?
If not any time soon what is your best (weekly digest plugin or a post notification plugin for wordpress) recommendation?
I’m having the same issue… latest ‘mainstream’ versions of everything. I haven’t created a child theme – just trying out the BuddyPress Default to see if it will server my purposes. My header was configured in Photoshop to be exactly the 1250×133 pixels. In Chrome, I’m seeing what looks like the start of a vertical tiling of the header image… just a few pixels worth, but it looks pretty dumb. Firefox seems OK… don’t care what IE does with it… 😉
Did you find a solution to the problem, or is this something in the way Chrome renders the page that can’t be fixed without an unreasonable amount of effort? When I viewed you link it looks like you’ve got it solved…
some more details if they will help,
It’s a brand new install of wordpress and buddypress. a multisite install, subdomains.
The only other plugin is Theme My Login. Custom Community Theme being used at the mo.
Would someone give me a nudge? Thank you so much to anyone with suggestions. Learning Buddypress and reading through the Ofcom radio broadcasting guides at the same time are pickling my brain!1
I installed buddy press but the forum module isn’t working. When i go to the forums page that buddypress assigned i get a page not found .. http://www.shalenow.com/forums
any help would be great 🙂
@alexanderh BuddyDrive is definitely the way to go here!

groups_remove_member how to used in my plugin I am not able to used it.
Please explain .
I want to remove member from a group when new user registered.
I have received group_id and user_id from database. then I want to remove all member from that group without group admin.
I used function ‘groups_remove_member’ in my own plugin .
I am new in wordpress and buddypress coding.
My code is
if (!function_exists(‘auto_join’)) {
function update_auto_join_status($user_id) {
global $wpdb, $bp;
// get list of groups to auto-join.
$group_list = $wpdb->get_results(“SELECT * FROM {$bp->groups->table_name} WHERE auto_join = 1″);
foreach ($group_list as $group_auto_join) {
$members_count = groups_get_groupmeta( $group_auto_join->id, ‘total_member_count’ );
if($members_count < 5)
{
groups_accept_invite( $user_id, $group_auto_join->id );
}
else
{
group_auto_join_hidden_group($user_id, $group_auto_join->id);
}
}
$wpdb->query(“UPDATE {$wpdb->users} SET auto_join_complete = 1 WHERE ID = {$user_id}”);
}
add_action( ‘user_register’, ‘auto_join’);
}
function group_auto_join_hidden_group($user_id, $group_id)
{
global $wpdb, $bp;
$utn = $wpdb->users; // Create a shortcut variable for wordpress users table.
$gmtn = $bp->groups->table_name . “_members”; // Create a shortcut variable for buddypress groups_members table.
$mysql = “SELECT user_id FROM $gmtn WHERE group_id=$group_id”;
$results = $wpdb->get_results( $mysql);
foreach ( $results as $user) {
groups_remove_member($user->user_id, $group_id);
}
}
my auto join working well but I am not able to remove member
Please help me what is wrong?
Hi everyone, I use the latest WordPress and Buddypress. For the past few days we have been looking into this and we could not find any solutions. Since our community will be having lots of comments (25+ per activity item) it’s really important that we are able to fix this. The person that gets us the solution we will give a $50 reward (via PayPal)!
Website: http://bit.ly/12uq6zW
If you scroll down the activity stream, you will see an activity item (bit.ly/14j2tbo = permalink) with 7 comments. You only see 5 and you have a link where you can click to see all the comments. Perfect!
But when you click “Load More” and more Activity Items show, also, with 5+ comments you DON’T get the “Show all comments” link. They just all show… Which is terrible if you have 25+ comments.
You can see it for yourself @ http://bit.ly/12uq6zW
Please, we have tried everything but are unable to fix this. It seems like as if it’s just the Buddpress code? Who can help us out? Again, the person that gets us the solution we will give a $50 reward (via PayPal)!
