Can I un/disable the re enable?April 5, 2012 at 1:22 pm #132494In reply to: Buddypress Upgrade Created Menu Problem

MemberI am using the latest update on the theme. I’d think it must be a change in Buddypress after the recent update, since the theme was properly displaying the menu prior to the BP update. Is the prior version of BP still available for download? The quickest fix is probably for me to re-install that version.

Applied theme is BuddyPress Default 1.5.5
The defaul wordpress installation/theme is Tachyon 1.1 by RocketTheme, LLCYes, I can reproduce the issue with all plugins disabled.

KeymasterYou don’t need to put the shortcode in the page template. Read https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/2/ again, and look at the screenshot with showing the “bbPress Settings” page.
You’ll need to change the “Archive Slugs – Forums base” from “forums” to something else. The WordPress page called “forums” (which BuddyPress uses for the Forums Directory) is stomping over bbPress’ attempt to claim the “forums” URL).

KeymasterYou’ll need to talk to the author of that plugin and ask for support or a fix to get it working on multisite. It is unlikely to be a problem caused by BuddyPress, especially if it works in non-multisite.
Closing thread because this is not a BuddyPress question.

ParticipantThanks for the link. I followed the instructions, but when I clicked on the “Install Site Wide Forums” it said the forum was already installed. From some other posts it looks like the site wide forums is just an install using the bbPress plugin so I went ahead and installed and activated the plugin. I then created a Forums page and inserted the shortcode [bbp-forum-index].
To my disappointment this did not work, but then I switched themes and it was working. It looks like the BuddyPress Default 1.5.5 theme does not work with the bbPress plugin for site wide, but works quite well for group forums. Site wide forums work using bbPress (Twenty Ten) 1.2 theme.
Is there anything I can do to make the the BuddyPress Default 1.5.5 theme or any other theme that does not display bbPress site wide forums to work? I have tried 3 different BuddyPress themes and none of them display site wide forums. They just display the page name.
Thanks for the reply,

Not sure how extensive your modifications were. But if you did not make major HTML restructuring, check out how we made a simple Twenty Eleven child theme compatible with BuddyPress here https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-eleven-bp-1-5/April 5, 2012 at 7:28 am #132475In reply to: modify contents/display of individual activities

MemberHey @djpaul,
Yea I am pretty fluent in PHP. I’m not awesome with WP filters but I can usually figure stuff out.I don’t think the .mo route would allow me to change the structure of the actual code being spit out, so i don’t know that that would really work. What I am looking to have displayed is literally the exact wording and layout that i have in my previous posts. those weren’t just shortened for the sake of space here in the forums. That’s actually what I would like displayed to the user. super short and super simple.

Inactive@djpaul Okay, I am happy to know that the enhancement is being considered. Not exactly a quick fix for now, but I appreciate you clarifying the issue anyway.
Cheers!April 5, 2012 at 6:20 am #132471In reply to: [Unresolved] Activity Filtering

KeymasterYou can indeed only pass one ‘scope’ parameter to bp_has_activities. We have a ticket on trac for this enhancement to be added: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3201
On a very very quick look, I can’t see a way of achieving this manually in the interim, short of filtering/writing your own SQL for BP_Activity_Activity::get().

@mercime
ParticipantIt’s most probably caused by the hack which should be taken seriously. If you prefer, get a second opinion by posting at the WP forums and ask if you’ve been hacked https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting Know that I prefer to be wrong about the hack, but it’s there.

Member@chrisclayton,
hmm, yea I saw that in there, but What i’m looking to do is shorten the actual event as per the example in the original post.I’d like to change the entirety of the output to something like:
<li> <a href="link to event">commented on a blog post</a> <span>5mins ago</span> </li>I can’t figure out where the actual structure of the activities are being constructed. I have a feeling it may be in the core?
If I can find it I should be able to replicate it else where.
IDK if that helps clarify?

Inactive@chrisclayton Thank you for your response. Well it didn’t blow up at all lol! Here is the code you posted:
“
The problem with this after I tested it on my local server is that the second parameter overrides the first parameter. Basically now all it shows is the current users updates and not his friends. I think @modemlooper is right when he mentioned it would only accept one parameter. I guess the question now is how can you force 2 parameters, or filter it in some way, shape, or form so that it does return the user and users friends updates? Thanks again!April 5, 2012 at 4:09 am #132453In reply to: [Unresolved] Activity Filtering

Participantif ( bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( ‘activity’ ) . ‘&scope=friends&scope=just-me’ ) ) :
*note: Just woke up. Still tired. Probably put something in the wrong spot… please add the code to your site carefully incase everything blows up.
EDIT: Here is a direct link to the list of scopes in trunk if your interested in doing some extra reading.

Inactive@modemlooper I appreciate your response, and your plugin development. Just so you know I have already pretty much exhausted the google searches and came up with nothing regarding this issue other than outdated, or depreciated material. I have scoured the codex for answers to no avail. I have done lots of the development on my site. Its just this one little issue that seems to elude me. If someone has any info as to how I can approach this I would really appreciate it and gratefully pass that knowledge along within the community. By the way modemlooper you have a very nice site. Thanks and have a great day!
