In reply to: How to get a “Trending” list from users posts
enderpal444
Participant@modemlooper @InterMike Thats what I’m looking for. I use that plugin and it’s compatible with 1.5 and would just be amazing to show a trending hastags list with that.

ParticipantEditing your replies don’t go to the correct link either (well, the last time I checked – if so, then I’ll try to edit this one as soon as I post it.)
Edit: Seems to be fixed…? Good then lol.

Participant@boonebgorges I used your $group_details_save function from the plugin above – line 56
I only used the $plain_fields, and can’t figure out how to check if `$success = true`, to be used in the group extension api:
` if ( !$success )
bp_core_add_message( __( ‘There was an error saving, please try again’, ‘buddypress’ ), ‘error’ );
else
bp_core_add_message( __( ‘Settings saved successfully’, ‘buddypress’ ) );`For now I’m just skipping it so I can continue work by using `$success = true;`.
If you have a some spare time and wouldn’t mind taking a look, here is my version of the Group Extension – Past bin
Line 68 is where Im using `$success = true;`, just above the `!$success check`
Line 114 is my version of function `group_details_save`.Ps: sorry for the long read

PrimeSuspect
MemberThis is index.php file of my theme (mammoth theme) ; http://pastebin.com/nbnHupxr
Btw every page of my theme is 2 column as default.So i want to use buddypress with sidebar like my other pages.
Thank you…

@mercime
Participant@PrimeSuspect the pastebin code for your page.php is full-width for the content with no sidebar. The source of one of your pages per pastebin above shows two columns including sidebar. Which layout was it you wanted? If two columns (with sidebar), open up index.php and paste it to pastebin.

ParticipantThis site is still in transition. Our forums have been pretty well indexed by Google. Go to Google and search for “BuddyPress.org malawimama“

MemberTo be specific, I go to this forum page at:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/then click the “2” for page 2 up by the “who’s online”.
I get a white screen and it acts like it’s trying to connect forever.
One odd thing is that if I copy the link address from the “2” link and put it in the address field for the browser, it seems to work. Maybe some sort of AJAX problem???

MemberDoes no one else see this problem? I have tried on both firefox and safari just in case it was a browser or plugin related issue but both act the same.
On this forum I can not get to page 2 (or any other page) of the postings! The screen goes white and buddypress.org never comes back again.

Wasn’t really that obvious from what you’d posted above! In any case, if you’re correct, then something is clearly going wrong somewhere – maybe the wrong key is getting sent or something. Are you using a plugin that changes how user registration works?

MemberHello Boon, I’m not agains that ‘feature’ I’m just not able to understand why it is outright compulsory.
About how you handle releases I’m sure you know what you’re doing so I’ll drop that.
The final one is kind of sad that I need to use a plugin to correct that, when the user has just clicked on the link provided to activate his account. (Obviously he had not activated the account before).Thanks

Participant@boonebgorges @modemlooper Maybe a better way to look at what I was suggesting is instead of “like facebook,” look at it more like giving users “mini blogs.” An idea might be to create a new tab isolating this specific type of activity so you can leave the existing activity tab as it is listing every single thing a user does with links to said activity. Then if site admins don’t want this facebook/mini blog style feature they can just remove the tab and focus on group/forum activity. Pulling in the WordPress WYSIWYG editor for the mini blogs would also be a nice feature to top it off. All just day dream ideas.

ParticipantIve got most all of that sorted. Seems my earlier issues were coming from plugins which needed to be upgraded. Commenting out my functions.php caused some of the others.
Now when ever I go to any of the Buddypress specific pages I get 404 errors. I can not access the activity page nor the members and I quite trying after that. Are there some places in the database which have site specific URLS that I should update to get these pages working? Or is there something that has changed in the recent version of Buddypress which I need to make updates somewhere in my theme?
Maybe this is a good time to install the Theme Check Plugin and have a look at the results.
October 20, 2011 at 4:03 am #123299In reply to: Editing the Header in the Functions.php File…
@mercime
ParticipantAdd this to your bp-default child theme’s functions.php file
`// Disable custom header support.
define( ‘BP_DTHEME_DISABLE_CUSTOM_HEADER’, true );`I noticed that you’re making the changes in the bp-default theme at plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default. When you update BuddyPress, your theme revisions will be overwritten. I recommend that you create a chlid theme of bp-default theme https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

Participant@PrimeSuspect there’s a second method now in BP template pack to make your theme compatible with BP and it would be appropriate for your theme. I need you to go to a page on your site and View Source Code. Copy all and paste in pastebin.com and post the generated URL here. I need it to compare HTML with the source of page template you posted.

@mercime
ParticipantTo help you update your theme,
1. set WP_DEBUG to true in wp-config.php
2. Install, activate and run Theme Check plugin
3. Install and activate Debogger plugin
4. Install and activate Log Deprecated Notices pluginWhen you run the Theme Check plugin, you will see all the Warnings and Requirements (must do) plus the Recommended and Info notices, With the Log Deprecated Notices plugin, go to Tools > Deprecated Calls and there could be a list of deprecated tags present in active theme and what tags you can replace them with

Participant@boonebgorges Nice one Boone.
I’m not a developer, but I’ll gladly donate to have it put together.
I’ll open a ticket and thanks again.
Sorry to put you through all of the screencasts, but I find it so much easier than writing it all down!

KeymasterYes, it’s a change: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3378#comment:2
The plugin you’re using is using for search is using core functions to render the dropdowns. That’s great, of course. But, in all the ways that the dropdowns are used in BP core, it does *not* make sense to have a null option for required dropdowns. So, while it’s inconvenient and I wish it had been raised at an earlier point, I think it’s incumbent on the plugin to create the fields in the way necessary for the plugin’s functionality to work right.
Alternatively, I would be happy to see a patch for BP that allows bp_get_the_profile_field_options() to take an argument along the lines of show_null_value_for_required (maybe not that wordy, but you get the idea). That way, we could default to false (1.5 behavior) but allow the 1.2.x behavior optionally, at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-template.php?annotate=blame&rev=5230#L431. It would be an easy patch to write; I encourage you to do it yourself, or at least to open a ticket for it.

MemberWhat role does someone need to be in, in order to post to the buddypress forum?
Everyone is by default an Author. They were able to do this last week, after the BP update, now they can’t.
I can do it, however, as admin.
