MemberI should have looked at the error log before! Errors were (lots of them, all for the same bp core file):
With BP 1.2.10 – PHP Fatal error: Cannot access empty property in /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-notifications.php on line 63, referer: some web page etc.
Seems to me that when bp-core-notifications.php queried the db for notification data it somehow broke and stopped outputting. The last word of the HTML output of the page was ‘Notifications’.
BTW: Can’t edit post here, have to delete and add another!

Participant@Meini, just tried to download your files, link is not working.
Anyone else made progess on this? Seems like such a fundamental idea, can’t believe it doesn’t exist already! Am hoping future version of Buddypress work to add a more seamless interface btwn WordPress and Buddypress.
cheers!

KeymasterHmm. I don’t know if this will make a difference, but try renaming your “Buddypress” directory to “buddypress”.

Participant@fernmacho This plugin allows you to activate users https://buddypress.org/community/groups/wp-activate-users/
It sounds like you also need to consider a way of blocking those bots that are signing up!

Participant@mike84 and in response to your previous question, yes I do a fair bit of moderating – running a community takes a lot of work, buddypress is a great tool to start but it takes time to make a community.

MemberBy front page I mean the homepage. You have the login widget enabled in the sidebar on the homepage which shows the FB login button. But, you also have the FB login button on the regular wp-admin or wp-login.php page. My FB shows on the sidebar widget but not the wp-admin login. Which FB plugin are you using? Thanks for replying.

ParticipantHi @mike84 I only use the one plugin – when you say “front page” what do you mean?

ParticipantIf you have never received an email (and it’s not stuck in a spam or junk folder) then your web host may need an extra plugin to use email with WordPress.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ ( http://www.callum-macdonald.com/code/wp-mail-smtp/ ) adds extra email settings to wordpress and has a tool to debug smtp / php mail. This plugin has previously been discussed: https://buddypress.org/?s=wp-mail-smtp ….
Alternatively the codex has another suggestion.

Member@ewebber I love the site. I would really like to build a social network for my community. Do you do a lot of moderating?
Also, im wondering how you have accomplished the fb login on the both the front page login form as well as the wp login form? I am using fb autoconnect which gives me the sidebar login form no prob. But the main login doesn’t show it? Are you using two plugins?

ParticipantYour site is unbelievably awesome. I have two questions I really hope you can help me with.
How can I add a social bit like you did in the upper right? Like, Tweet, +1? I’d almost rather the LinkedIn share instead of Tweet but whatever, what you have there would fit my site perfectly!
Also…your login box and Facebook compatibility? Is that a widget or custom? It’s beautiful and perfect.

Member@mercime Yessir. WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.2.1. I have went through the process and walkthroughs. The were all copied successfully and I now I need to edit the 13 BP templates to match my theme. But BP is still using core templates rather than the templates residing in my theme. The admin bar is working and all links are working just fine.

@mercime
Participant@matiou34 as mentioned above, it’s going to be the plugin route – you’d have to create one or hire someone to do it.

@mercime
Participant@wendymerritt first thing I do when something is not kosher with install is to change to bp-default theme and deactivate all BP plugins except BuddyPress. Either theme or plugin is interfering with group creation.
