In reply to: BP 1.5 – Wierd bug with CSS loading a child theme
John James Jacoby
KeymasterUsing @import in combination with linked CSS causes CSS load order issues, as the HTTP requests are not completed in sequence.
I would suggest researching and using the WordPress API wp_enqueue_style() to better avoid the fouc.

ModeratorI’m going to assume you mean under WordPress not BuddyPress specifically and using Multisite? Is that right? If not what do you mean by theme?

Participant@gregfielding: Could you let me know what step I’m missing or applying incorrectly? I have the same issue that you mentioned in your original post. So, after reading all of the recommended material regarding creating a child theme for BP 1.5 Beta 1 thru 3, the styling in my child’s style.css file still won’t be recognized (And I’m still in a slowly clearing fog. Too slow.). Here’s what I did:
1. Created my child theme folder,
2. In that I created a blank functions.php file and then added to it:`<?php
if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles’ ) ) :
function bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles() {}
endif;
?>`3. I reloaded my browser, and the default styling isn’t there. Great.
4. Now, to my child’s style.css file, I do what I’ve done before and add the @import code:
@import url( ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css );
5. I did Step 4 because I want to load and override the default styling, not start from scratch.Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Participant@evo252, if that is what you need, just put #compose{display:none;} in you style.css, and user will still be able to message other, or friends by visiting their friends profile. i just test this and is working.

ParticipantI’ve got default working now. The WP plugin “Nivo Sider for WordPress” breaks pretty much all interaction just by being activated. I’m guessing it’s 1 or more conflicting .js files. I have the same plugin working fine with BP 1.2.9 but the plugin has a number of issues, definitely don’t mind using a different, more friendly slider plugin.

modemlooper
ModeratorThere isn’t a custom profile plugin at the moment. There exists a group css plugin that could be used as an example in creating your own plugin. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-css
Another option is adding profile fields and then mapping that info to CSS. See this forum topic: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/css-for-member-page

ParticipantFwiw, it’s WP 3.2.1, bbpress 2.0 RC-4, Buddypress 1.2.9
It’s in the root directory, everything was functioning normally (and is, apart from the redirect issue). No upgrades, all fresh installations. No other plugins are running, and no customization has taken place.

ParticipantBP Codex is your friend
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/Per info given in above links, open up /activity/index.php and at the top of the file replace:
``with
`<div id="page-” >`Then at the bottom of the file, replace
``
with
``
Save file. Proceed to change HTML of remaining 12 files posted in links above. There might be a need to include div entry plus closing div. But check out first how this turns out. Good luck.

KeymasterI assume that @naijaping meant to link to this blog post by the same name: http://wpmu.org/are-you-ready-for-buddypress-1-5/ (it’s a nice post, by the way, and it might be considered for addition on the codex page @karmatosed)

Participant== are polls and “likes” hard to make? ==
Let’s just say it’s not easy and that it takes time to make. There are polls and likes WP plugins. Getting them to work with BP i.e. show up in activity stream, etc. will require additional work on the plugins.== Single WP, MAMP ==
Sorry, I use XAMPP.September 1, 2011 at 7:57 am #119350In reply to: Using Buddypress search rather then WordPress search

Member@mercime Thanks.
The select box doesn’t seem to have any effect, though. It seems to search members, groups and blogs (not forums) even though I select “members”, for example.

ParticipantI’ve been trying to get a theme BP 1.5 ready for a while now and can’t seem to get it. The template pack worked great for 1.2.9 and I’ve tried the same instructions with some patchwork for 1.5 (such as grabbing the template files from the svn instead of the plugin folder). Things show fine (mostly) but replies, posts and other ajax tasks aren’t completing. Using firebug and posting a group update (what’s new) shows the response from wp-load.php to be totally blank.
This is it theme working with BP 1.2.9 on staging: http://dev.archonic.com/carleton/dhc/
This is it it not working with BP 1.5 rev 5086 on development: http://archonic.pwnz.org/carleton/dhc/groups
You can log in with “student”, “student” on both sites to see what I mean. I’m assuming all issues (can’t post update, can’t post new topic, can’t delete, comment or reply, etc) with 1.5 are due to the same big fumble. Switching to the default theme doesn’t make it work either!
