ParticipantFound the solution… seems to be a problem with non-english installations…
Solution: edit the wp-config.php file and add the keys generated here:
https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/Buddypress is now up and running…

ParticipantI just erased everything from the server… new manual WP3.1.2 install, new mysql db… the blog by itself is working perfectly. I did not configure multisite in order to eliminate variables…
When I try to install buddypress, I get a “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” error… deactivating buddypress gets the installation back to normal…
So my issue is not manual-installation related, and not multisite-related… sorry to bother again, but any other ideas to help me?
I’m googling this error, but cannot find a solution that applies to my case…
Thanks!

Member@mercime Hmm, I deactivated all the plugins, but still didn’t work. The problem is, that the person who made my theme hasn’t been active on here for over a year, so I think its unlikely I can get into contact with him

ParticipantYes, it was installed using a webhost script… I’ll trash everything and begin the whole process again manually. Thanks for the help!

Participant== I have installed and reinstalled WP3.1.2 + BP 1.2.8 from scratch ==
When you say you did it from scratch, do you mean you uploaded WP files manually and not used webhost script like fantastico and the like? If you used the webhost script, I suggest you drop tables from DB, delete .htaccess file and re-install WordPress manually via FTP/cpanel. I’ve seen dozens of BP install problems arising from the fact that WP was installed using those webhost scripts.

ParticipantThanks mercime,
I have installed and reinstalled WP3.1.2 + BP 1.2.8 from scratch, so how would I know if its broken?
Any suggestions of specific actions I should take?
Thanks…

Participant“wp-admin/user/?c=1” usually caused by broken plugins and/or issue with caches. Do not overlook renaming mu-plugins folder (if you have one). If you are the Network Admin, check your database wp_users and you’ll be the first row

There are missing files in your installation. Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme, and see if the issue is corrected. If so, then it could be that if you’re using a WP theme and installed BP Template Pack, but not all BP template files were transferred to your active WP theme. Go to theme folder in server and check if these 13 files in 6 different folders have been transferred

@mercime
Participant== I have 20+ blogs written that have been shared all over the internet via default permalinks. ==
WP/BP versions? Are all those 20 blogs in a multisite installation or in single WP’s?
== Is there ANY way to override this or to set the custom structure so that it is exactly the same as the default? Any help would be great!! ==
It all depends on the configuration of your blogs – MS or single, but there are ways to go about this.
On multisite installation, just create another site e.g. http://mainsite.com/newsite where you can define BuddyPress and set permalinks to other than default.
On single WP, e,g, http://example.com, I would create a physical subdomain http://buddypress.example.com/ install WP at root using the same database as the example.com site but with a different prefix and share userbase — backup DB first before attempting this.

Participant@dains it would be better
– if you posted what BP/WP versions you’re using,
– if you have deactivated all plugins and changed to bp-default theme already,
– if that Site Admin is lone group admin
– and other pertinent information.May 12, 2011 at 2:46 pm #112180In reply to: URGENT – How To Set Default Values?

ParticipantThis approach ought to work with members and groups too I think? My need is to show the “My” tabs as default in those sections. I understand the bp_ajax_querystring approach @boonebgorges put out, but can’t find any documentation on what to throw it (or even ON it – so many undocumented things in BP
).Can I assume that in that example, ‘friends’ is the slug for that tab? If so, check me on this – I can probably just change the example to detect which main page I’m loading and throw bp_ajax_querystring the slug for the tab to load, and I’ve got my default tabs?

MemberI would probably just use wp-pagenavi, which I’ve been using on wordpress sites for years now – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-pagenavi/. Otherwise there are a host of possibilities. You’re using a
container for your images, whereas I would normally use an unordered list, but you could do anything from using a continuous page (such as ‘load more’ on the activity stream), or you could load the 24 images in a single page block and then use a content slider combined with lazy loading to scroll from page to page – loading and displaying a further 24 images with each click.Really, there’s nothing wordpress/buddypress specific once you’ve queried and gathered the content, thereafter you’ll find endless ways in which to present and scroll through it which applies to any type of website.
Would you mind sharing your code for aggregating your images from across the network? I’m about to do the same for blog posts and it would provide a good reference point.

ParticipantI’m wondering about the same thing.
So far, I had no luck finding any workable solution. While I’m reasonably familiar with WordPress, BuddyPress is still a mystery to me, namely, I have no clue (yet) on how to post an “activity” from within a BuddyPress plugin. The trick here, as I see it, is somehow exposing an API that allows remote sites to insert an “activity” when a button is pressed. Now this is something I know how to do using WP’s standard XML-RPC API for posts/pages/comments and so forth. BuddyPress, however, seems to have a completely different taxonomy, and none of those calls are exposed by WP’s API. Someone has a semi-abandoned project to create a XML-RPC API for BuddyPress, but it was all of a sudden abandoned a few weeks ago, the author claiming to have been victim of hackers, and deleting all documentation, examples, and warning plugin users that he wouldn’t support BP any longer.

KeymasterThis is not a BuddyPress-specific question. The admin of this secondary blog needs to set the other user account with a minimum of author permission.

MemberDo I need to install another map-plugin in addition to the BP maps 0.3? Or does the “BP maps” include the google maps?
I have tried to install it with the standard BP theme and tried different WP (BP) sites I have.May 12, 2011 at 4:09 am #112110In reply to: Fatal Error During Activate

I renamed the buddypress folder and the issue dissapeared, so buddypress is definitely the instigator of the promblem,

Participant@virtuali I was thinking the exact same thing today – in other CMSs I’ve used, I’ve been able to see a treeview of the navigation for the entire site and put any items I wanted in any spots (or rather, any items other people wanted 07 ). Since BP uses a common header file and seems to do its own setups for each tab (although I haven’t looked at everything yet) this might not be an impossible dream.
This would perk up Buddypress’ design and usability options a LOT. My particular configuration is moving the “My” subtab from the Profile out to each main tab. While I’ve found code to remove the subtabs from the Profile view, I found this post looking for how to add those subtabs, just as they are, to the main tabs.

ParticipantAlthough your problem seems to be solved, I wanted to add this in – https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/ . On the right is a reference for some add_action functions. However, there’s a ton of stuff in there that has no documentation
