@mercime
ParticipantWP/BP versions?
Is WP install working correctly before activating BuddyPress?
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/Did you install WP via fantastico? Start from scratch and manually upload WP files, create database and install. Those quickie WP installation scripts are not compatible with BP.
EDIT – found this too via search in BP forums

ParticipantAs @uloga said, it’s well within your legal rights (expect for custom js, css, and images if they have a separate license). However, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

ParticipantI think the plugin will be called Rate Vote Like Anything. And I’m building it with those three systems in mind:
Rate: you can rate things 1 to 5 (or whatever scale)
Vote: you can vote thumbs up or down (1 or -1)
Like: you can like somethingSo it probably will work to replace other voting systems. I’m going to take your advice and do my best to include an API so that others can use the plugin for any type of content. I’m going to replace my other BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts plugin. Tens of twenties of people (!) have asked me to extend my other plugin to rate blog posts and comments, so this new system will do it.
And as far as group rating is concerned, I’ve already built the star rating aspect for another site. you can see it in action here http://www.fashionsalade.com/2011/02/street-people/my-icons/rebeca/ (you need to login via facebook first).
The major benefit of this new plugin is that it will have shared ‘karma’ from all the items you create. Some people will want this, others might not. But it’s a cool feature that I really like. Site admins can also decide which items will be karmable (i think i just made a word up).
I’m also not making it BP dependant, Although I’m guessing it will mainly be used on BP sites, as wordpress already has things like GD post ratings – but that plugin is a beast.
After suffering most of yesterday while stretching custom post types to do my bidding, I’ve decided to create new tables today. and now i’m at peace
However it was a great exercise to do, and I got to dig into wordpress core much more than I normally do, which is always fruitful. Thanks so much for your encouragement.April 29, 2011 at 4:12 pm #111338In reply to: How To Remove Sub-Reply Button?

ModeratorI tried Bowe’s method using W3 Total cache and Rackspace CDN (CloudFiles) for a 3 dedicated servers setup – 1 db, 2 frontend.
It failed at the crop avatar step. Everything else was fine.
We had to use NFS instead to sync avatars across the frontend servers – ugh.
Still using W3 Total cache for CDN for other files.@Pisanojm: did MaxCDN allow use of CDN for avatars for you ?

ParticipantOk, I did this again and it’s worked!! hooray!
This time round I activated a wordpress (non-buddypress) theme before deactivating, which seemed to do the trick.
I’m now on WP 3.1.2 BP and 2.8, finally

ParticipantUpdate:
@r-a-y thanks again, I’m looking into it more. I’ve found this plugin https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-activity-tags/home/ but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get that plugin to work so I will dig in more to see how to add tags to blog post activity items.April 29, 2011 at 11:12 am #111319ewebber
ParticipantHi @boonebgorges it’s taken me a while to get round to this, after the last time I was a bit nervous to try it out.
I’ve reverted to an old .htaccess file, but it’s still not working, everything is fine until I switch off Buddypress and I get a 500 Internal server error. The only way back was to reactivate the plugin through the database.
Has anyone got any other ideas?
ThanksApril 29, 2011 at 11:10 am #111317mmln
MemberI use Super cache, it works but clears the cache every time some one logs in, then rebuild the cache from scratch….so painful.

Participant@josh101. @mentions are confusing to 99% of users, for real. I have built lots of client sites and literally *every* client asks me WTF are @mentions. I tell them how it works and they say why doesn’t it just work like Facebook, and I pretty much have no response because I agree with them. Hence, http://www.buddyboss.com

ParticipantI have long thought BuddyPress was confusing, and so I decided to take on the task of building a theme that would solve every issue I have with BuddyPress. It can be downloaded at http://www.buddyboss.com.
1. Groups and Forums are combined in an INTUITIVE way on my theme. It finally makes sense!
2. @mentions are gone. In their place is a TRUE Facebook wall on every profile. Post on friend’s profiles and status updates with threaded comments. You’ve got to try it to see how sweet it is
3. Stripped out all of the nonsense that adds to BuddyPress’ general chaos, and what’s left is a simple and enjoyable experience.April 29, 2011 at 5:15 am #111297In reply to: External and Group use of bbPress

ParticipantTry the BuddyBoss theme at http://www.buddyboss.com. It combines groups and forums in a way that is MUCH more intuitive than the default BuddyPress setup, no hacking required. I think a big issue with BuddyPress is that the layout of groups and forums is usually confusing to people. We’ve fixed that
April 29, 2011 at 5:11 am #111296Michael Eisenwasser
ParticipantHere’s the answer! It has always frustrated me how @mentions work in BuddyPress as I find it chaotic and confusing for users. So I built a theme that converts the @mentions system into a TRUE Facebook wall with post to profile and threaded replies. If you every need to, at any time you can deactivate our Wall Component from the dashboard and your content will revert to @mentions, You can download the theme at http://www.buddyboss.com.

Michael Eisenwasser
ParticipantYes. The BuddyBoss theme at http://www.buddyboss.com has a true Facebook-style wall built in. It converts @mentions into an intuitive wall posting system with threaded replies.
April 29, 2011 at 4:58 am #111293Michael Eisenwasser
ParticipantYou might want to try the BuddyBoss theme at http://www.buddyboss.com. It has a built in Wall on user profiles. Images and video can be added via oEmbed for BuddyPress, and the wall functions like a true Facebook wall in terms of how the conversation flows. It converts @mentions into wall posts so the BP Gallery plugin could potentially be integrated if you know what you’re doing.
