Do you know if there is any way to use MaxCDN without W3TC?

I use multiple databases and therefore can’t use W3TC…

It was a good day when Bowe showed me I could use MAXCDN to cache avatars… It was not working with my older AMAZON S3 CDN solution and I was actively trying to find someone for over 7 months to tell me why! Today, I finally got the xcache php opcode to work on both my server and for specifically for BuddyPress (using it for database caching via w3tc). Things are moving along quite nicely now.

The key to maximizing MAXCDN is to cache all of your plugins’ css, images, and javascripts… once you do this, it flies!

With regard to wp-minify or w3tc minify and buddypress, I’ve never been happy with the results of this as usually it will stop something completely from functioning, no matter how careful I was in trying to exclude potential CSS/JS issues individually. I am using wp-minify successfully on a number of less active WordPress sites though… I may give minify a go again some time later, much later!

Exact same problem at http://www.fishwrench.com — running WP 3.1 and buddypress 1.2.8. Also running buddypress forum extras v0.3.0 and 1.3.2 of the buddypress activity stream.

This is probably unrelated, but the following line is throwing an invalid character error in IE8: $(#signup-welcome).p(;:last-child’).css(‘display’, ‘none’);

It’s not directly a Buddypress issue. It’s a plugin and hack issue. Where most standard wordpress blogs may only have the need for a few plugins, complex Buddypress communities have lots of plugins.

I am planning on purchasing Wishlist, but I am also planning on using BuddyPress. If I am using WordPress 3.01, can both Wishlist and BuddyPress work together in one website run by WordPress.

99.3% of the time, it’s fine with buddypress, but I am not finding any “whitelist” plugins, where is it located so I can learn more about it?

I downloaded the WordPress Zip and the Buddypress Zip and FTP´d them up to my DreamHost domain and the problem was solved. So it´s the 1-click install the problem.

Buddypress shouldn’t slow anything down at all. Unless you have a bad host, and poor space, your site should load, and load functions, just as fast as if it was not installed.

This is my problem and I’m guessing the problem that a lot of us are having. Cloudflare will load the CSS and JS, but there are still so many that it slows sites down.

@DJPaul can you please tell me what database caching plugin your using to speed up mysql queries on master / slave servers? i’m using hyper db seems to work but i want to use memcache will that help logged in users on buddypress? (ryan’s plugin memcached plugin)

… my slave server is a stripped down mysql server and nothing else do i need to install memcache on the slave server? (its already installed on the master)

Forum-specific notifications are not, at the moment, part of BuddyPress’s core functionality (for better or for worse).

@johnjamesjacoby has promised an upgrade of buddypress.org soon. Maybe one of the things we can hope for is that he’ll install something like the BuddyPress Group Email Subscription plugin, so that individuals can subscribe to group/forum emails.

Until then, you’ll have to check manually

SEO press does work, but make sure you don’t have any other SEO plugins enabled/installed as I found it conflicted and broke.

I can believe that this is an old problen that hasn´t been solved by WordPress/Buddypress/bbPress I just got the “There was an error when creating the topic” and I see that none of the wp_bb_ tables have been created in the database. I don´t know if this is the problem, and I don´t know how to create new tables (I´m not a developer), but please resolve this issue it is unacceptable that it is still happening… now I hope that creating the tables resolves my problem. Any body can help me create new tables??

@pjnu No, do not disable Secure Invites yet. The last time I tested Secure Invites a year or so ago, my test users had to reset to a new password when I disabled Secure Invites plugin, it was a hassle so I haven’t used the plugin since then. I don’t know if that’s one of the consequences if you disable it now.

Let me double-check on the users base in some installs, then I’ll get back to you.
