Sometimes quotes get converted into other characters, which is why the code snippet wasn’t working for you.
bp.org probably wouldn’t host such a thing, but I can imagine some BuddyPress fan site implementing such a feature! 
Until then, you can host your CSS code and sample HTML on Jsbin.com for easy previewing.
This issue was caused by a plugin called BuddyPress Activity Comment Notifier.
An update was just released by Brajesh, the plugin author, here:

i deactivated all the plugins except buddypress and profile menu and still nothing.

I’m experiencing this on my site’s carousel/slider. I’ve found that deactivating the BuddyPress Template Pack plugin does restore the carousel, but BP pages suffer when that’s off. I’m scrambling for a fix. The site is http://tinyurl.com/9fmd4d5
@fiq whether you use the index.php or page.php to create a home.php file doesn’t matter as long as you keep the container divs within bounds of the HTML structure. Plus when you use home.php, a special WP template file, you don’t need to change the reading settings at all.
Hey guys, I am working on a beta site as a possible full site redesign.
I am running wordpress 3.4.1 and buddypress 1.6 these are both brand new installs. I also have a plugin called darkonyx (it’s in the wordpress plugin directory) which is a video database plugin. The database itself is in a different subdirectory.
When I have just that plugin active it works fine. However when I activate buddypress the videos that are supposed to display no longer work. The short code is not present and I just have a blank area. Any ideas on what could be causing this? It works perfectly otherwise. I thought it may have something to do with the theme, but even if I change the theme back to a default wp theme with or without buddypress optimization it will not display the video.

THANK YOU! After setting the BP_ROOT_BLOG in wp-config.php to the ID of the subsite, BP was “successfully activated.” Except that when I try to run the installation wizard it tells me I “do not have sufficient permissions to access the page.” I am listed as admin for the subsite … There may be a larger issue with WP install or conflict with a plugin?
Perhaps I am not understanding what you’re saying. The codex tells me that I can have both. I followed the instructions to the letter.
I went ahead and upgraded to BuddyPress 1.6/Salutation 1.5.1/BBP 2.1.2 and my WordPress is at 3.4.1. I also copied my bb-config.php file to my wp-content folder.
I decided to fore-go the site-wide forums and just use the forums within the groups.
I’m still unable to create a new topic inside of a group. Nothing happens when I click on either of the 2 ‘New Topic’ buttons.
Also when I enter text in the “What’s New in ‘this group’?” activity box, there is no submit button and the comment just sits there.
I tested this using the buddy-press default theme as I’m hoping to get this resolved soon so that I can try it with my Salutation theme.

This might be a weird question – but I will try to explain the best I can – Basically I want to disable the option to leave the group (only on specific groups). The reason is because when a user registers for my site they have to select the location of where they are from which then puts them into that group accordingly, but I do not want them to be able to leave the group because this is how the content is filtered.
I have been looking at this block of code –

I see here this is basically showing the Leave Group button, I got it to the point where I could hide the Leave Group button on the actual Group page, but it’s hiding it for all of them – Basically I need it for a specific group.

@mercime – yes, the terminology in the setup screen is confusing – de-activating forums when you want forums!
@mairaj first and foremost backup database and server files.

BuddyPress is a plugin. Did you activate it?

I thought I would see BuddyPress on my Widget page, but it is not there. How do I get it to show?

If you’re using Genesis, you’ll also need the Genesis theme compatibility plugin called Genesis Connect:

If you don’t want to use that paid version, you can try using the free BP Template Pack plugin:

Although, it should be stated that Genesis Connect is probably better suited as it should integrate with your Genesis theme seamlessly, while BP Template Pack will give you a generic look that might not gel with your theme and might require some CSS and template tinkering to get it just the way you want.
I finally worked up the nerve to download and install BuddyPress onto my WordPress site. I also updated my Genesis theme.
Now I get a message saying “You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress-compatible theme to take advantage of all of BuddyPress’s features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or update your existing WordPress theme.”
Now I am confused and more than a bit nervous, I don’t have a good understanding of this. Do I go into Themes and hit the Activate button for Buddy press?
If I do this, won’t I lose my Genesis theme from my site? What I would like to know is how I keep my current theme and add the Buddypress to it, so I can have a forum right on my website.

How can I reinstall my BP site while keeping my members?
I have a new BP site which has around 100 members. This website is installed at the primary domain of a multisite network. I wish to reinstall BuddyPress while keeping the existing members with all their login / editing functionality in place. The reason why I want this is I have several things that I want to change in this website.
1. I want this site to be a single WP site and remove the multisite.
2. I want members to be on the root of my website, I mean http://www.my-ste.com/username
3. I want to rename wp-content folder.
Is all that I have to change above possible without reinstalling WP and BP?
