ModeratorActually BuddyPress core should be amended to work with any WP theme

KeymasterThere are two hooks BuddyPress uses when editing a profile that you can hook into:
`do_action( ‘xprofile_profile_field_data_updated’, $field_id, $_POST );
do_action( ‘xprofile_updated_profile’, $bp->displayed_user->id, $posted_field_ids, $errors );`These actions are in the xprofile_screen_edit_profile() function in bp-xprofile.php.
If you’re unfamilar with WP plugin development, check out the WP Plugin API:

Keymaster@bigjimmysisco – Please try the amended code; I was typing on the fly and forgot to end the conditional statement!
The function_exists() conditional is important because if you ever upgrade BP Template Pack, you’ll get an error.

@mercime – Yeah, I’m looking forward to the release as well

ParticipantIf you are looking to install disqus, I must warn you that buddypress and disqus don’t get along with eachother, unless you are willing to pay $150/month for disqus premium.
If you have disqus free+ buddypress, all of your users will have to sign up again to disqus. The premium disqus has membership syncing, the free does not.

Participant@bigjimmysisco, remove
`if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_activity_secondary_avatars’ ) :`
And
`edif;`

Member@r-a-y, when I put your code inside, I get `Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION`
January 15, 2011 at 7:21 pm #102930r-a-y
KeymasterThe code you’re looking for is this:
`if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_activity_secondary_avatars’ ) ) :
function bp_dtheme_activity_secondary_avatars( $action, $activity ) {
switch ( $activity->component ) {
case ‘groups’ :
case ‘friends’ :
// Only insert avatar if one exists
if ( $secondary_avatar = bp_get_activity_secondary_avatar() ) {
$reverse_content = strrev( $action );
$position = strpos( $reverse_content, ‘a<' );
$action = substr_replace( $action, $secondary_avatar, -$position – 2, 0 );
}
break;
}return $action;
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_action_pre_meta’, ‘bp_dtheme_activity_secondary_avatars’, 10, 2 );
endif;`Add to your theme’s functions.php.
*Sidenote: I’m working on my own “template pack” plugin, tentatively titled “BuddyPress Theme Unite!”, which will make it way easier for theme developers to add support for BuddyPress to their WP theme.
January 15, 2011 at 7:19 pm #102929In reply to: How to get topic starter’s username?
r-a-y
KeymasterAdd the following to your theme’s functions.php:
`function bp_get_the_topic_post_poster_username() {
global $topic_template;if ( !$link = bp_core_get_user_domain( $topic_template->post->poster_id, $topic_template->post->poster_nicename, $topic_template->post->poster_login ) )
return __( ‘Deleted User’, ‘buddypress’ );return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_poster_username’, ‘post->poster_login . ‘”>’ . $topic_template->post->poster_login . ‘‘ );
}`Then use the following in your template:
`if ( function_exists( ‘bp_get_the_topic_post_poster_username’ ) ) echo bp_get_the_topic_post_poster_username();`
This will only work in a forum topic loop.
January 15, 2011 at 7:08 pm #102925In reply to: redirect to /register
r-a-y
KeymasterThe register page uses a BP template:
/registration/register.phpYou could add some verbiage before the registration form in that template, perhaps a link to your blog post?
If you’re currently using the bp-default theme, create a child theme, copy /registration/register.php to your child theme and modify the template anyway you like (just don’t break anything
January 15, 2011 at 7:04 pm #102924In reply to: Buddypress Friends Table
r-a-y
KeymasterIf user #1 becomes a friend of user #2, then the wp_bp_friends will add only 1 entry to the wp_bp_friends DB, not two.
Hope that helps.

MemberIt seems like a lot of people are urging Janrain engage to make their plugin compatible with buddypress. Maybe you can add your vote too.

ParticipantGood news to everyone experiencing the same problem. I tested in the next version of buddypress (not yet released) and it’s working.

Memberhey Colage, did you have any luck resolving this issue?
To clarify, do these plugins work as expected when used with just wordpress, but not when integrated with buddypress?

Participant@gunju2221 Thanks for pointing me to site. Looks good using disqus but if one day, disqus no longer in use, the comment can be imported but not linked to real accounts I’m afraid.
@hotforwords do you see this happening or is a local account created for each person that sign up using disqus on your site?

Member@modemlooper, are you the template pack owner? The image has never been there even before i made customizations.
Is the image defined in the CSS?

Thanks for response!
I am making a Questions and Answers forum, so, it’ neccesary to address who asked the question. Would you point some clue on how to create a new function to get the starter’s username?January 15, 2011 at 11:53 am #102894Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterYes; as I said up, have a look in /buddypress/bp-xprofile.php. There is a xprofile_set_field_data().

ParticipantBuddypress has ‘generic’ friends. But friends can be of various types or groups:
for example:
close buddies
office collegues
parents etcFacebook , Orkut etc lets group your friends according to your choice/privacy.
Script like elgg at elgg.org allows to group friends into ‘collections.’
Thus when you post a blog or picture you specify which collection can see it:
close buddies
office collegues
parents
all etcJust generic “friends” seems prehistoric
and this is an immediate requirement involved site members are asking otherwise sharing content is becoming critically impossible w.r.t what to share with whom.January 15, 2011 at 2:31 am #102877johnny2011
MemberHi
I have created child blogs on a wpmu/bp install.
how do I get the child blog to integrate into the network? list forums/groups/profiles etc?
It seems my child blogs are as if the BP/WPMU main site does not exist?
