ParticipantSo, your main site is wp multisite and you’ve tried to activate bp on a secondary blog?
Amend: See the reply from @r-a-y to this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/buddypress-not-on-themainblog/
Why haven’t you activated bp on the main site as that is your multisite primary blog?
Deactivate bp on your secondary site, install on your main site and let us know if your links then work

ParticipantWe are trying to set up a main site powered by wordpress, and a secondary one with buddypress. We got to use WordPress MultiSite just fine, and were able to set up Buddypress to work with the secondary one. However, after activating it, we discovered the following:
On the secondary site, we get the following on the blos tab:
http://prssamembers.freehostia.com/wp/testmp/blogs/Secondly, on the admin dashboard it is impossible to create posts or pages since you get a 500 Error.
Also, attempting to edit a profile or clicking to go to settings always sends you to the members tab.
We have WordPress 3.0, and have tried using Buddypress version 1.2.5.2 and the trunk version 1.3-bleeding. Both present the same issue. The current one is 1.2.5.2.

Participant@hnla It’s good to hear that yall have at least been discussing this then. Or at least it’s reassuring that I’m not totally off the wall here.
@djpaul, Yeah, I would agree that communication has improved.
But still, I fail to see why it would hurt to add a couple of core committers. Committers are supposed to be committed. Currently we only have 1 committed committer. Exactly why would it be a bad idea?
I’m not trying to cause dissension here, I’m just trying to point out what may be a relatively risk-free enhancement to the community.

Participant@ceeworld must say, I use cometchat on my site and it works a treat. If you are having issues get in touch with tech support and they will install it for you.

Participant@gregfielding https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-profile-search/activity/
Check it out mate, it’s exactly what we need!
Just need a way of hiding the form through ajax as the search form can be BIG when you have a lot of profile fields to search from.
You know like the ‘new topic’ form is hidden in the forums directory etc?We just need this hidden in the members directory and it’s perfect. Lets you search with one or more fields selected.
Let me know what you think!August 22, 2010 at 10:57 pm #89996In reply to: User’s blogs are going to a blank page

Participant@cameroncameron – you’ll need to post some more information:
Which version of WP / BP?
Which theme are you using?Do your blog urls display correctly with the BuddyPress plugin deactivated?

ParticipantAlso i should add, anytime (logged in as the admin) i click a link from the buddypress tool bar up top it just takes me to the home page. Profile, messages etc. But works fine for new users

ParticipantWell done @rogercoathup, that would be a cool presentation. I’m liking the buddy sending a few ‘helpful’ messages, lol.

Participant@gregfielding Totally agree there! To be able to find members by searching across multiple profile fields is really a feature that I’m sure most would love on BP. Does anyone have anything in the works?

ParticipantHave a look at the recent sitewide posts widget – the code in there should give you the pointers you need.
You could also look at the functions in bp-blogs-templatetags.php
Or, I suspect best is simply to filter the activity stream for blog posts, and use the ids embedded in there: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/

Participant@rogercoathup Thanks I’ve already set up my theme by using bp-template-pack, I’m just looking for the code to put on my main blog header, it’s the only place where it’s not displaying. I’ll have a look on the forum, thanks a lot for all your help !

Member@sandra1010 – I’m just using WP with default BP theme… I can get to ‘Events’ from the standard nav but don’t have any events options in the profile subnav so can’t add any events…

Participant@ellaj – de nada. That’s some nice theming you’ve got going on there. The site has a few dead links at the bottom, I assume that’s just in the beta.

Participantp.s. it’s the grouping fields as @hnla points out, that is one of the tricky points.
In old language terms: we needs structs, and then arrays of structs

Participant@hnla – what’s the ‘beef’ with Javascript for the field creation? I assume Boone is just meaning the UI to insert the form fields, etc.

Participant@pattiearnold – you’ve got a ‘hundred’ different questions in here – you will need to ask them all as separate threads
In general, to achieve this level of sophistication – You’ll need to create your own customised BuddyPress theme. You’ll need to have PHP, HTML and CSS skills to do this. You could do it yourself or hire a BuddyPress developer

Participant@ellaj – check out this page: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
@boonebgorges, @mercime, @hnla – the Documentation tab needs to be much more prominent, to save us having to keep typing this URL (and the child theme one) in forum threads

@boonebgorges Boone. Thought I’d report a bug.

MemberI had a similar problem when ie8 was not running in compatibility mode. I was advised to put a meta tag in my header that forces IE8 into this mode http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/ie8-compatibility-mode
This has worked for me

ParticipantI concur with most of what @paulhastings0 has to say (I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago). If only for the safety and security of the project, it needs more than one active core committer.
Additionally, I’d like to see:
– Someone giving clear lead & making decisions on features / future development – is that @johnjamesjacoby or @apeatling or someone else?
– Somewhere clear on the site to make and comment on feature requestsI’m on here everyday, an experienced BuddyPress developer, but still have to ask these questions. That they are not obvious is somewhat concerning.
Some ‘off track’ thoughts on improving the site: 1. make the documentation / guides more obvious to find (so many support questions are asked when people haven’t read the guides – it’s not necessarily their fault). Let’s have the site lead visitors where we want them 2. tidy up all the dead / out of date information and plugins 3. don’t close threads that are still active, or at least give the originator the opportunity to confirm they’ve received a satisfactory response before closing

KeymasterI’m going to take a stab at answering this. John has been actively involved as a core developer for almost a year. The post which you refer to did not change that in any way. We all love John and the commitment that he shows to BuddyPress is without question.
I feel the communication has improved. We’ve more posts on the .org blog about BuddyPress and its future in the last three months than we did almost all of last year. We also have the biweekly development chat which all are welcome to attend. Not to mention the variety of support and “Can I use BuddyPress for x, y and z” questions that we get on this forums, and at WordCamps. I’d like to segue briefly about WordCamps.
WordCamps are fab! There’s a central list at WordCamp.org, and I’d urge you to attend one if there’s one near where you are. This year’s events which covered BuddyPress:
@boonebgorges presented at WordCamp Boston (slides).
@johnjamesjacoby organised or presented or both at WordCamp Miami.
I presented at WordCamp Ireland (slides) and twice at WordCamp UK (slides).
@matt mentioned and answered several BuddyPress questions during his keynote at WordCamp San Francisco.
Henrik Hammer Berthelsen presented at WordCamp Denmark.
Esteban Garcia Bianchi and Juan Manuel Olivares presented at WordCamp Argentina.
Paolo Maffei presented at WordCamp Milan.
Jimmy Ngu presented at WordCamp Malaysia
@lisasabinwilson presented at WordCamp Raleigh.
Mitsuhiro Suwa presented at WordCamp Japan.
@danmilward presented at WordCamp Chicago. @wpmuguru did, too!
Annie Vranizan presented at Reno Tahoe WordCamp.
@lisasabinwilson presented again at WordCamp Boulder.
@gigalinux presented at WordCamp Berlin.
Robert Popovic presented at WordCamp NZ.
@johnjamesjacoby is presenting again this weekend at WordCamp Savannah. There are BuddyPress talks scheduled for more WordCamps this year (including at two different WordCamps this coming weekend); the list above is of events which have already happened. I sometimes forget how popular BuddyPress is, and putting this list together has reminded me how awesome the software and our community is.

I would not hold much stock in the dates on the Trac timeline; it is a rough guide, just like the roadmap page is. Personally, I’m thankful for the extra time we have for 1.2.6; we’ve had a number of bugs fixed and enhancements reported and added to core which we only discovered after weeks’ worth of testing.
The best way for people to contribute to BuddyPress is to reports bugs, write patches and to test and leave feedback on them. The danger of topics like this one is that they have a tendency to go around in circles, and produce lots of talk but little action. -
