I don’t understand why this happened, but all I wanted was a left column and installed bp-columns to aquire such. My understanding is that bp-columns uses bp-default, only with the left column…….but when I activated bp-columns, all the hard work I had put into my site was lost.
1) “Professional Contacts” went back to “Friends,” even though I have .mo/.po from po edit loaded in my directory and in my WordPress dashboard, under “Buddypress,” components/pages is set to “Professional Contacts” where “Friends” was.
2) My footer changed from my custom color (#778899) back to white, even though I have the style.css loaded in my directory in it’s own directory in wp-content/themes.
3) My custom header is completely cut-off at the end, even though I set the px to exactly 1250 X 133
4) I seem to have lost everything I had already set up in my bp-default.
5) There is a “home” link at the end of my header that was not there before and I can’t get rid of it…….
So, the question is……..Is there ANY Buddypress theme that I can use at all that doesn’t cause all kinds of chaos?????
I have a few custom profile fields (First Name, Last Name, State, etc.) in the Base profile group on my Buddypress site.
However, when my members register for the site, the first name field ends up showing their username instead of their first name. What could be causing this?
Every other field comes through fine, but I’m not receiving their first name and their profiles look ridiculous when it says their first name is their username.
Any suggestions?
HI guys i am trying to change the names of the buddypress components, such as groups activity members, I know how to change the pages names. but for instance if I want to change the groups pages to Rants, I want it to say create rant instead of group
Hello I am looking to make a custom registration page and was looking for the bp-core-signup.php file but I can not seem to find it in the buddypress/bp-core folder. has it been moved in buddypress 1.5? My registration works currently so I assume the file can be found and used. Thanks.

Is there a more detailed tutorial available than what is in the WP backend?
My confusion is here:
The instructions direct me to open my page.php file (which I have done), but I am not sure what I am supposed to be looking for within this file.
(You will need to change the HTML structure in the BuddyPress templates that you copied into your theme to match the structure in your page.php or index.php file. The files that you need to edit are as follows (leave out any folders you have not copied over in step two)
I’ve located the page and index files but like I said am not sure what to look for or copy, and then when it says try the easier step with the header, footer and sidebar I become even more confused on how editing these three files will change the layout. Any help or insight would be vastly appreciated.Thank you so much in advance.

I can’t access my WordPress 3.3.1 admin panel after BP installation.
When I enter my username and password I’m redirected to the website homepage.
I am able to access my WP admin panel by renaming the BuddyPress plugin folder via FTP.
I can then return the BP folder to its original name, reactivate the plugin, and it appears to be working, but when I log out of the WP admin, I can’t log back in.I’ve uninstalled BuddyPress, and re-installed (the ‘Installation Wizard’ disappeared when I re-installed), but then I can’t login again.
Anyone have any ideas??

Topic: Editing Layout
Hi everyone, this my first post as I’ve just implemented buddyPress into my site. My issue is that I’m using a different theme than is recommended but when I follow the instructions to go about fixing the widths of the pages and sidebar I can’t locate the div tag in either of my theme’s index or page files. So my question is where else would this information be and if there’s another way to go about adjusting the widths so that they fit as well as the font colors and sizes. Sorry for any inconvenience or if this had already been discussed. Thanks for the help!

I have searched for this and couldn’t find an answer so I thought I’d ask here.
Activity stream can be searched by a number of parameters, but it can’t be searched for for oembed data (http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/).
OEmbed data seems to be treated as simple html (once parsed) and no flag is set in db to indicate that this indeed is oembed data (from what I have been able to find at least).
Is there a way I can filter activity stream for oembeds so that for example I can put in a new tab next to my activity, friends, groups that’s called for example “videos”?

SamI have installed buddypress on my wordpress site without multisite enable.
Now after two months and having 300 users, I would like to enable multisite.
But the problem is that to enable multisite I have to disable all plugins and re-enable them after multisite installation. However, after multisite installation I cannot see buddypress in my plugin list to re-enable it!!
does everyone know if I am able to enable multisite after buddypress installation ?
I use wordpress 3.2.1 and buddypress 1.5.1.

Im running the latest version of BP and WP.
– With “Friends component enabled” the autocomplete does not work. However, I can stil send a message by entering the complete user name.
– I would also like to have autocomplete working for all users with the “Friends component disabled”.
I followed these instructions http://bit.ly/dtzZDF by @r-a-y to add code to functions.php

In both cases autocomplete is still not working.
Please help.
In buddypress when I mention someone it shows in his profile like this:
(my avatar) @someone_username ..text
I would like to change it to a more readable one as follow:
1- instead of username, I would like to show full name
2- instead of @user_name I want to show it like this:
(my avatar) >>> (someone_small_avatar) someone_fullname ..text
do you have any idea how to do that ?
