In reply to: WP 3.0 – BP 1.2.5 500 Error on User Delete

MemberThe fix that @shamus posted sort of worked for me…I still get the red error box if I try to delete a user from the front end, but I’m able to do it just fine from the admin panel.

Participant@ seagrinch –
Thanks for the report. This confirms my suspicions. BuddyPress v1.2.5 has an activation issue under WP 2.9.2. So, as I stated above, the “Requires at least” tag in BP’s readme.txt file should be changed to WP 3.0. Otherwise, we will have people activating BP for a single blog, and not site wide–that is if they just click the “Activate” link in WP 2.9.2.
The other option is to give users of WP 2.9.2 clear, explicit instructions that they have to click the “Activate BuddyPress Site Wide” link instead of the “Activate” link. However, this will not guarantee that most users will actually see these instructions.

Participants2member is great if you want to require payment to access the member only site.
Absolute Privacy looks like it just requires a login to get to any pages.
@r-a-y had some code in a past thread (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/members-only-2/#post-52901) which I believe will just redirect all pages to the login page if you’re not logged in already. Simple solution

InactiveI see you are using the BuddyPress Template Pack. That just adds the BP templates and files (php). You still need to style your custom theme. Adding the default css would be defeating the purpose behind the BuddyPress Template Pack. The whole idea is that it is for custom styles.
You basically have 3 choices.
1. Manually add the styles you want to your custom theme.
2. Use the default theme and modify it to your liking.
3. Find another theme:

I’d suggest using a child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ You’ll just want to override the index.php and you can make it look however you want.June 30, 2010 at 3:36 pm #83608In reply to: Bug in Buddypress Group

You should submit this to Trac: https://trac.buddypress.org/ Just use your same login as this site to login.June 30, 2010 at 3:31 pm #83607In reply to: Need Testers: Activation Issue with BP v 1.2.5

ParticipantHi Jeff, I have the same issue. And it now explains why all the bp template tags were not working in my sub blog themes. I didn’t notice that Buddypress was not activating site-wide, but clicking the activate site-wide link fixes this.

ParticipantSorry, only wish I can be dev like everyone here. I normally copy/cut paste in different areas. I’m willing to try if you point to right direction. When code is posted, it’s like foreign language. Does that mean it’s not topic for discussion?

Participant@matrac Yes it is totally possible.
Best plugin around is S2Member. Download the free version and just set the access levels to require level 0 in order to access any pages.
I know that sounds complex but take a look at the plugins documentation and you will see how easy it is.
Hope that helps!June 30, 2010 at 2:39 pm #83597ThecounT
Participantoh snap. Even the littlest hints are greatly helpful! I am using “BuddyPress Theme Compatibility” but still not getting style I want. Any ideas on how or what I could do to get this looking cooler? short of building another theme?
Thanks Dennis!

Participant“–notification when using @mention in wordpress side (blog, comments, etc.)”
@intimez i’d imagine easy to set that up – just reuse the notification/atmention functions and hook it into wp. – the comments already hook add_filter( ‘pre_comment_content’, ‘bp_activity_at_name_filter’ );

I’ll place your other question on the agenda.

KeymasterI might be a few minutes late to the meeting, due to a pizza-related appointment.
Can I nominate a sort of broad topic? Feature scope for BP 1.3: has it been set definitively? xprofile changes, revised installation/dashboard, integration with WP pages – are there other big ones? Other than testing trunk and bug hunting, are there other specific ways that community members like myself can help with particular components for BP 1.3?
Related: the idea was once floated of organizing mini dev teams around different components. Still on the table?

ParticipantThere is no problem.
1. Turn off everything (all plugins sites).
2. Delete bp-default and bp-sn-parent
3. Delete old buddypress
3. Install version 1.2.5. (Or 1.2.4 if you want it).
4. Install Buddypress Sitewide activity Widget plugins
5. Install BuddyPress Widget Theme 1.2.1 by modemlooper
6. Enable rest
See other plugins that are compatible with version 1.2.4. (Download the latest versions).
I have had:
– BuddyPress Group Documents
– BuddyPress Links
– BuddyPress Sitewide Featured Posts
– BuddyPress Album+
– BuddyPress Sitemap Generator
– Facestream
– FeedBurner FeedSmith
– FollowMe
– JR Favicon for WordPress
– Lightbox 2
– Post videos and photo galleries
– SPNbabble
– Tweetstream
– WP Google-buzz
I did upgrade to four sites with thousands of customers and have not had any problems.
Make it a battle plan that does not look anything changes from the old buddypress and everything goes well and is ok (you will not lose anything).June 30, 2010 at 10:36 am #83573In reply to: upgrading 1.0.3 site to 1.2.4

Participant@jeffsayre – thanks for the link (I missed the codex article in my search). This is a new client who already had the 1.0.3 site.
Fortunately, the client wants us to develop a new theme from scratch – so, our only core issue is ensuring the member profiles, connections and data (including blogs) are preserved.
