Topic: Can’t edit child theme files

There’s something wrong with my child theme.

Already using WP 3.3, Buddypress 1.5.2, with the deafault theme and I’ve just created the child theme at /wpcontent/themes/bpdusk/ with the style.css where there are minor changes and working.

Now I added the header.php at same folder need to change title tag and returns “Sorry, that file cannot be edited.”

I’m missing something and don’t know what, any help?

The same had happen with previous version of WP and Buddypress.

Hi
Every time someone does something to cause a notification to happen such as commenting or sending a message an error occurs but still shows the notification, this is the error when I send a private message.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_get_settings_slug() in /hermes/bosweb26d/b1249/ipg.krugersightingscom/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-messages/bp-messages-notifications.php on line 20

Please help.
I’m on the latest version on WP and BP

Thanks for the help and the great website you’ve put together, @etivite.

Looking at your website, I found another (and suiting my purposes in a better way) action called something like xprofile_profile_field_data_updated or something like that. According to your website and the BuddyPress code, I should receive the field_id and the value, which I think means that the id of the field that has been changed, plus the value, will be sent to my function. However, adding my function to that hook with add_action (like add_action(‘xprofile_profile_field_data_updated’, array(‘Naam’, ‘test’), 10, 2)), and then doing a print_r when logged in with admin gives me a 1 as $field_id, and ‘admin’ as $value.

How does this work? Isn’t it supposed to give me, say, the field ID of zip_code and the new value?

I’m having the same problem as @mwbarker

It’s all the latest updates. I run my live site with w3TC, have disabled cacheing for logged in users, but still having this problem.

My localhost test site has W3TC disabled, and it’s no problems. I guess I’ll have togo through all settings one by one until i find out what’s causing this.

Ok, this is weird….
I believe this has to do with “Page Cache” settings.

I disabled Cache home page (now, I can loign/logout no probs)
Selected “Don’t cache pages for logged in users”

Now, as a test, I visited a few of my pages, log out, no probs. Stay logged out.

Now, if I visit a page, say “About”, if I login on that page, I can logout, visit the homepage, I’m logged out, but if I visit that page again, it shows me as logged in. When I try to logout of “About”, it send me to the:

http://mywebsite.com/wp-login.php?action=logout&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fmywebsite.com&_wpnonce=bb1shsjskdd (nonce verify page)

Very odd.

Hello, I am about to launch a Buddypress Community at http://www.bicycletouringhub.com

I have a problem that I can’t seem to figure out, when a user signs up to be a member they go through the /register/ process allowing them to enter in a password. However, the password does not get saved properly, as when they try to login after activation it says it is invalid. The user has to then click forgot password for a new one to be sent. This is the last piece I am struggling with and cannot find the source, Has anyone experienced this before?

Create a page called forums
Go to the BuddyPress menu in the admin and click pages
Assign the forum component to the forum page

To install buddypress, u need a theme compatible. If you want to make your theme compatible, download this plugin: BuddyPress Template Pack (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/). Install and go to the link BP Compatibility at menu Appearance in WordPress Dashboard. In this page are a tutorial to how make your theme compatible.

hello. i am using buddypress widget theme, wordpress 3.2.1. and the latest bp version. Can you please tell me how i can fix my main menu navigation? example: when rolling over the drop-down button”stuff” it looks bad – due to css and the length of text i think? please help. http://nexneurocare.com

I am a total noob to WordPress and building websites. That said the past few weeks I taught myself to build my first blog at http://www.noobnooz.com and I don’t think it came out horrible. I’m excited to get it up and running. I use both the latest versions of WP and BP.

I am stuck with Buddypress.

Whenever I link a page to buddypress that page then comes up blank. To see an example… in my top menu on my homepage there is menu item called “pros” under “pros” is a page link for “members” that has been linked to buddy press. Now that the “members” page has been linked to buddy press the page loads blank in the web browser.

I found this help section in the troubleshooting area: http://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/ but it is so far above my head I can’t seem to get it to work. I am brand new to this, I’m really trying, and it’s hard stuff!

Can someone please help me?? I have been trying to fix this for days.

I’m unable to reproduce the problem. Without being able to reproduce, I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do.

Perhaps you can try installing a fresh installation of BuddyPress somewhere else, and then attempting to reproduce the issue. Take careful notes of the steps required to reproduce, so that you can share them with the team.

I’m experiencing what @Marcus is describing. My background color, image, and website width are coming through to the page edit screen. There is no where else I’ve found that this is carrying over to. Everything else so far is great. Running 3.3 and 1.5.2.

Okay, so I’ve sort of abandoned this method and have been trying to figure out the bp_has_activities filter. It seems the ‘current documentation’ (https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/) is actually outdated because there is no mention of an exclude parameter which was indeed added to buddypress 1.5!

I need to modify the activity stream and exclude all updates and comments if they have a specific meta. I can get a list of ids to include or exclude, but I’m lost at how to appropriately apply the filter from within a plugin.

Again, I’d really appreciate the help. I’m having an impossible time finding current discussions or docs for the bp_has_activities filter for buddypress 1.5.

After going through the BuddyPress install, I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function show_admin_bar() in inetpubchildplusforumwp-contentpluginsbuddypressbp-corebp-core-buddybar.php on line 585

How do I resolve it? I’m on my 10th or so install trying to get BP to work on this server. It worked perfectly well on another server. Unfortunately, it’s not an option to host it there. Thank you for any help!

1. Which version of WordPress are you running? 3.0.2
2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install? Directory
3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? Subdirectory
4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version? No.
5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting. Yes.
6. Which version of BP are you running? most current
7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version? no
8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones? no
9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? standard
10. Have you modified the core files in any way? no
11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? no
12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in?
13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files. No access to it, sorry.
14. Which company provides your hosting? thesba.com

This just means that there’s a extra/missing/duplicate div within the template files. What compatibility method did you use for Step 3 of the BP Compatibility method – the first method which changed 16 template files or the second method with header-buddypress.php etc?

Try toggling forums in a given group. Uncheck “enable forum” and save, then recheck. If that works, it narrows down the issue.

Also, is it happening with new groups as well as existing ones?
