What is the plugin used on BuddyPress.org for the member stats in the sidebar? “BuddyPress Member Profile Stats” plugin does not seem to do the same thing.
It would be nice if the BP site had a section that tells BP users how to do similar customizations. It’s very frustrating to use a demo or support site for a product that does not even tell other user how they did certain things.

I have not encountered that activation issue before. To troubleshoot, I would:
– Deactivate all plugins including BuddyPress and change to Twenty Eleven theme. Check registration on regular WordPress install. If activation doesn’t work, resolve this first in WP forums and with webhost. If registration/activation works proceed to next step.
– Activate BuddyPress plugin only and change to bp-default theme. Check registration/activation here. If it doesn;t work, file ticket at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/newticket (log in with same username and password). It activation works, proceed to activate your theme and other plugins then test again.
Thanx @modemlooper – I am not using a cache plugin. And you are right, I am interested in turning the profile as the default page of a user file not redirecting on login. Basically with the bp-custom-php file and 3 lines in it, the just messes up login in/out. After installing it, it would go blank upon log in/out.

Not a stupid idea at all Speel. I was logged in as a subscriber and not admin when I did the screenshot. Not apart of any groups, just a fresh account. Are there certain Buddypress Hook for the join button that I can try to place in there? I didn’t create any of the groups except for the “Colony 001” group (as an admin).
I can try this, but how would I do an e-mail confirmation check if it wasn’t through a BuddyPress registration form? How do I do this in regular WordPress (having deactivated BuddyPress)? Thanks.
I suggest that you need to isolate the mail problem. Deactivate BuddyPress and BP plugins. Make sure that your email confirmation is working in regular WordPress before activating BuddyPress. This could be something where you would need to contact your webhost’s tech support to resolve the issue.

There’s no links on my stats which tell me I have “0 followers, 5 updates, 8 forum posts” and my activity feed says ‘no activity’..
Would it be a good idea to have a page that listed my 8post topics so i can then click to view them?

yeah, I’m thinking of this theme too (or a complete custom design). I’d like users to note their location in the profile & then be presented with relevant information (posts)…
Also thinking of this: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/classifieds & getting someone to modify it for me (I’m not a developer!). These guys also have a “directory” plugin however it is not “buddypress compatible” but a few people have requested it (might be worth your while inquiring too!)

I’ve set up a subscriber account to test the theory to no avail. As a general subscriber, this is what I see for public groups:

This is taken while logged in. No “join group” button there. I looked at the markup and didn’t even see any info there either. Unfortunately, I’m rather new to Buddypress so finding the right hooks for this in the default template is kinda flying over my head….
@mrjarbenne, i tried bp-redirect-to-profile and not working. In fact, many many fine plugins on WP are no longer working… Upgrades are great but can very disruptive too.
Not 100% perfect. It does what it says… BUT, it interferes with your attempts to log out. When you click on log-out, it gets stuck on a blank page- trying to get back to site, you are not logged out. Any thoughts? @mrjarbenne / @modemlooper

That sounds like a WordPress Multisite (sub-domain setup) with Buddypress running as front-end. The Buddypress main domain would be where you host your General content, then host the more specific content on the subdomain blogs. @Bowromir over at http://bp-tricks.com/ has always been a proponent of the subdomain blog having a similar look to the main blog, and as such has created a Multisite WordPress default theme: http://bp-tricks.com/featured/new-theme-bp-default-member-blog-multisite-communties/
You could then use a functionality like http://wpebooks.com/replicator/ to create the basic layout of one specific site you need (with the look and feel you want), then replicate that site multiple times, adding the specifics for each city.
BRILLIANT…worked.. OK in case other folks wonder.. her it is: created a txt file with the following simple code below (just 3 lines)… Replace the file name to bp-custom.php and place it in wp-content/plugins/ And voila. Thanks @modemlooper U save me tons of worries.

Sorry. I just re-read your initial question. That plugin from buddydev won’t help you in that case, but the code @modemlooper pointed you to will.
If it’s not there you can create it. It’s not there by default, so if you haven’t added any customizations before, you won’t find it. Just create a bp-custom.php file in the plugins folder (it will be one of the few files in a directory of “folders”), and add the code you want. Don’t forget to add the <?php tag before the config lines @modemlooper has pointed you to here. Another option might be this plugin http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-redirect-to-profile/ . I’m not sure if it’s been updated for 1.5, but @Brajesh is great about updating things, so I assume it works.
Hi @modemlooper…I wonder if this new version of BP made substantial changes in files? I just searched for bp-custom.php file, certainly in wp-content/plugins/ and in wp-content/plugins/buddypress, alas nothing. Is bp-custom.php gone and now another file holds the code?
